Being honest, despite some effort to do otherwise, I felt like Mario Odyssey was in fact, the only thing that mattered at last year's E3. Kirby was just Kirby, Yoshi was kinda interesting, Meroid Prime 4 was a title, Pokemon Switch wasn't even that, and nothing else new AFAIK.
The fact that they changed up how blatant they were about it doesn't really change my opinion.
@kkslider5552000 E3 in general is just pointless for everyone now. Microsoft just shows third-party games and """exclusives""", Sony is just showing the same games over and over while having no idea how to properly show games between PSX and E3, and Nintendo just treats it like a Nintendo Direct. And there's a bunch of leaks that always happens right before E3.
We're only paying attention to E3 because it's pretty much tradition at this point.
@MisterPi So far only 1 of them is 1st party and would've been unsuitable for E3 (Labo Toy-Con 03). Nintendo probably isn't ok with the concept of a 3rd party focused Direct.
I can't be the only person here playing the Valkyria Chronicles 4 demo, right? This game is absolutely gorgeous. You can tell it was smartly optimized to run well in handheld mode, because BOY is it sharp on the tablet! I was worried for nothing.
They definitely doubled-down on the design philosophy of the original game (which isn't a bad thing, btw). It's almost identical to the original game in terms of the gameplay so far, although I suspect they've likely tweaked it here and there. Thankfully, the original was a smartly designed game, and that carries over to this as well.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
@Knuckles-Fajita Pokemon counts as 1st party but you know what I mean, apart from the Nindies presentations all of those games are (or were at the time) Nintendo exclusives (DQXI 3DS is different enough from DQXI PS4 to count as Nintendo exclusive). Meanwhile all the 3rd party games missing from the E3 Direct are multiplatform.
@Knuckles-Fajita There's got to be limits set by Nintendo otherwise why isn't Pokemon on Playstation/Xbox already?
Anyway I checked out the VC4 demo and I don't see why Nintendo would be concerned about it detracting attention from Fire Emblem. They've got very little in common, if anything it's more like Codename STEAM.
@Grumblevolcano Not really. All Nintendo owns is the names of the creatures themselves. TPCi can put games on mobile without Nintendo even being mentioned. Stands to reason if Nintendo had a series of bad systems, because according Junichi Masuda, he wants the system to sell well so that Pokemon will sell well (Failing to realise this works in reverse because it's F****** POKEMON MASUDA!), that TPCi would be looking to buy back that 33% ownership Nintendo has and move on.
Because that's all it is. Part ownership. Not even majority. If Creatures and GameFreak pushed hard enough as stakeholders, they could do what they want, and as it stands TPCi is already borderline it's own thing. See how TPCi handles YouTube for instance? Straight up bans videos.
Now Playing: Mario & Luigi Brothership, Sonic x Shadow Generations
Now Streaming: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
@Knuckles-Fajita They cannot. Pokemon is owned by TPC, which in turn is owned by Nintendo, GameFreak and Creatures (and Nintendo is the biggest shareholder of the latter two). On top of that, Nintendo holds all the trademarks for the Pokemon franchise, they own the logo, the Pokemon names, etc. They publish the games too. TPC merely acts as the glue that keeps it all together and running. A Pokemon game on another system? All Nintendo has to do is say ''no'' and it won't happen. It's very much a first party game. GameFreak may not be owned by Nintendo, but that doesn't mean the games aren't.
I just need 3 late surprises like last years L.A. Noire, Doom, and Resident Evil Revelations. All were a nice to great surprise and would like to see that once again.
Oh and a date for Dark Souls for crying out loud!

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
Haha. Spot on. There have been a lot of bad E3 conferences over the years. Whether it looked good on paper but didn’t work out live or were simply badly designed and paced. But never one that was a PRE-RECORDED DIGITAL BROADCAST. No excuse for that.
That said, I don’t really miss all the puppet shows etc from previous Directs. It always seemed designed to hide a lack of content, and a bit self indulgent when the same people gurning for the cameras were also piledriving the company into the ground.
@electrolite77 On a scale from 1 to Ubisoft, it was somewhere around an EA.
I don't know about hiding content. One could say the same for Sony's orchestral extravaganzas, Microsoft's on-stage car debuts, EA's nicely cut interviews with footballers.... and who can forget "I love ze ball. I am ze ball. I like to play wit' ze ball. I like to hold ze' ball. I'm not gong to tell you what game this is about or why I'm here until I spend 20 more minutes telling you what balls mean to me, an imaginary person." They all waste time, but the Digital Events used to be longer in length as well, so it wasn't really filling in anything. This effort to cram a traditional 1-2 hour E3 presentation into 40 minutes or less is insane. In hindsight I don't think Iwata was running the company into the ground, he was willfully shafting WiiU owners in the most delicate way possible to move onto Switch and mobile behind the scenes
Has anyone noticed that neither World Ends with You nor Banner Saga Trilogy seem to be applicable for Prime 20% off? It looks like Amazon is moving full force into not giving the discount anywhere they can now.
Glad I have a year of GCU left....after that, depending on how NO goes, I may be digital only. At least I get 5% back. I'm still hoping GameStop gets their act together and offers a Pro discount program.
@Octane@Knuckles-Fajita Yeah the whole ownership situation with Pokemon is the most convoluted thing ever. For any metric that matters it's completely Nintendo. Yet financially it's split into all those entities. GameFreak "isn't" Nintendo and occasionally does non-Nintendo projects. Yet Nintendo's the majority owner so they're about as independent as Rare was in 1996, but worse because their primary income is through Pokemon which is owned by Nintendo so they could never actually be apart from Nintendo. I'm not quite sure why the various holding companies are required but I assume it's a financial arrangement to keep things separate for taxation for some reason. Regardless, Pokemon=Nintendo despite the weird arrangement. They don't own 100% of it on paper, but they have 100% control of it in reality, and nobody can do anything with it without their direct approval.
As the majority shareholder in Creatures and GameFreak, they can't be outvoted on the board, so a buyback couldn't happen unless Nintendo was willing to sell, and their decisions can't be overruled by the board. Similarly they didn't "buy" DeNA, they did a stock swap. They traded equal values of shares to each other with no cash transaction or profit. So based on values, DeNA got like 1% of Nintendo and Nintendo got like 70% of DeNA. And since as a result, Nintendo owns Most of DeNA and thus has full control of it, they then also control that 1% of Nintendo shares DeNA got. Nintendo gets into the weirdest financial laundering schemes. They buy everyone without ever buying anyone but just enough to have total control of them.
@NEStalgia Funny enough they actually just cancelled one of their better membership options which offered I think 20% on all used games and accessories as well as higher trade in values. Just like we all thought, the end of GCU just meant that everyone else would get rid of their own programs as well

Yeah, ever since Best Buy officially ended the GCU Amazon has ceased offering the prime discount with "new" third party releases.
