So I decided to go download Paladins since it became free to download today, but when I glanced at the top of my Switch, I noticed a crack by the air vent. Needless to say I am honestly very annoyed. Back when NintendoLife was making all those articles about this stuff I figured it was some random faulty thing with like .01% of Switches but nope, or I am at least in that supposed small percentage. I had even checked my Switch’s air vent cover to see if it was cracked a couple weeks ago when the articles were being published but it was perfectly fine, so that means it HAS to be recent.
On top of it my Game Card cover is a little cracked and broked apart too, specifically the bit that secures the cover to the Switch. I take seriously good care of my electronics so there is little reason for it to start cracking and such. I have a suspicion though that extended use of games that use the fan heavily can cause the air vent cover to eventually crack, which is most likely the case.
Edit: Just noticed the top screw near the air vent is missing too, everything else appears to be fine.
@bluemage1989 For me it's more about other content releasing around the time of the new launch. Like say if Dark Souls Remastered released anywhere near September 14th, I know I wouldn't bother getting it because of the Torna DLC for Xenoblade 2. Then you have stuff like Smash and probably unannounced Wii U ports and the cycle just keeps repeating. Meanwhile if it had the same release date as the other platforms, dependent on the beta I may have picked it up in June especially with Mario Tennis Aces not having much replay value.
@Deku-Scrub
Just remember the first rule of mob mentality: When you're not part of the group that has experienced any event/occurrence/etc., said event seems anomalous and perhaps trivial/silly.
But when you experience the event, suddenly it's now applied to EVERYONE and is the worst thing in the world.
This little nugget of wisdom can pretty much be applied to anything, great or small.
Looks like we are getting another Picross game for Switch (Picross s2). I hope it's better than the first one on Switch which was really bare-bones experience. The e series was really lazy to begin with and then they went and didn't even include touch controls for Picross s.
I really like Picross but Jupiter does nothing interesting with their regular Picross titles. I'd rather buy themed ones like Sanrio Picross which I got two or three weeks ago for 3DS and completed it last week. It didn't really add anything new but it was a nice distraction. Since I just finished that game, I'm not really in a huge need of another Picross game right now. I'd rather have them localise the Japanese exclusive Final Fantasy Picross game for 3DS. That would be a day one buy.
Check out my Gaming Nonograms thread here on Nintendo Life if you are into Picross or other similar games.
Anyway, looking at the latest New 2DS XL trailers it seems Nintendo still considers the Switch a home console rather than a handheld.
Of course. I don't think the Switch has ever been considered a handheld. It's a home console that can be taken portable, which is a different niche than "handheld".
@Deku-Scrub It's possible the missing screw is the cause, not the effect. If somehow the screw came out, that could change the forces under flex of the system and lead to a crack. Question then becomes, what happened that made the screw fall out?
@Grumblevolcano At first I was excited, and then I remember family membership must be on the eShop, not Amazon. Urg.
@Grumblevolcano I get that and it's cool you know. From a sales point of view it would have been better releasing on time but just for my own self I tend to buy when I feel like playing something. I haven't bought Mario Tennis yet because I don't feel like playing it but early December when we have Smash/Pokémon I might suddenly feel like playing Mario Tennis.
And this is with the PS4 version being older on a much bigger install base. Guess that article earlier about Falcom saying their fans weren't on Nintendo hardware doesn't hold true as much now, well, at least not as much.
Here's hoping Falcom gets the hint and brings more good stuff.

@NEStalgia That is an interesting theory, I honestly have no idea what could have happened to it though. I generally use my Switch around my house only, and only a couple times have I brought it on trips and to relative’s houses but I rarely used it on those occasions and I never brought it outside then as well.
@Deku-Scrub it could be just an mfr tolerance issue... Threads too shallow, etc. Or expansion from heat? But id think the screw would expand before the plastic. It does seem like people who play mostly docked are the ones reporting this more often..... So the heat seems to be related. Though a few people reporting it also had warping or bulging batteries, so it's hard to figure how how often a crack is just a symptom of other known defects in early batches.
@Deku-Scrub My theory is this happens only to people that play a certain way. I also believe it will just get worse as more and more people will have their systems for over a year in the next 4 months. I'm sure it's also tied to use as mine gets used some days for 10 hours or more.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
Very good work to Ys VIII, really deserves the sales since it is a great game despite a lot of my criticisms. Especially when launching so close to Octopath; being able to hold its own against another prolific JRPG coming out is always good.
I just wonder how Shining Resonance Refrain is doing.
Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill
I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!
Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.

I'm not sure how you come to that conclusion. They're clearly ads targeted specifically at kids but I don't see how they say anything about Switch. Other than the Switch ads by comparison being a bit more targeted towards an older audience with more money to spend. The 3DS trailers say nothing but "buy 3DS, it has games and is cheap". The gaming equivalent of the rug emporium clearing out all of their rugs because they're closing down for the 10th time this month.
