Dark Souls had no premium price on Switch. I got mine preordered for $31.99 after GCU. Same as any other console.

As long as the game runs good, getting 60fps isnt even remotely comparable to getting multiple versions of the game (normal price $100 across Wii U and 3DS or PS4 and Vita, and way below HD at that and no guarantee of cross save).

It will be cheaper on other versions with a late release, but the way I see it is, if you waited long enough for price to drop on other systems then clearly you're not in a rush to buy, so why not do the same for Switch.

Of course I would never take 60fps over 3 versions of a game in 1.

The Switch only delays killed my interest for Dark Souls Remastered.

Yep. Next time they definitely need to keep it day and date with the other versions, especially if it's gonna have lesser performance lol

At this point, again unless its a game released early in the Switch life or before the Switch came out, it needs to be day and date for me to care, excluding timed exclusivity getting in the way and the such.

Day and date isn't a biggy for me I'll play it when it's released. For me if a game is worth playing now it's still worth playing in six months.

Whatever momentum DS:R might have had on Switch will have been killed off by the indefinite delay.

I was going to nab it for the novelty, but by the time it releases, I'll be knee-deep in a bunch of much more exciting Switch releases, so I'll probably pass.

As to framerate... I've discovered that I don't really care about it for anything that's not a fighter or a racer. Ys VIII is as fun on Switch at 30fps as it is on PS4 at 60fps. Hell, it's more fun, because I'm not restricted to playing it on the TV.

Same with resolution (as long as it doesn't drop to ridiculous Xenoblade 2 lows). It doesn't really impact the amount of fun I have with a game.

I have come to the realization that I have an unhealthy and irrational degree of love for this console. I feel as though it'll be the last platform I build a collection of physical games for. I have little doubt that the PS5 and Xbox Scarlet will be all-digital platforms for me. Maybe it has something to do with the physical media being cartridges rather than disc based? I'm not sure.

But I'm very curious to see what will come first. A Switch mini, as the Switch becomes the official portable successor to the 3DS? Or a Switch Pro, when Nintendo upgrades the Tegra chipset from X1 to X2? Increasing the available RAM and processing power while keeping the energy consumption low.

It could go either way...or both. Regardless, the next five years are going to be interesting.

Salt and Sanctuary is coming, apparently.

For a second I confused that with Slain. Was very confused for a bit

Awesome. Naturally I'll be holding out for the inevitable physical release.

So I decided to go download Paladins since it became free to download today, but when I glanced at the top of my Switch, I noticed a crack by the air vent. Needless to say I am honestly very annoyed. Back when NintendoLife was making all those articles about this stuff I figured it was some random faulty thing with like .01% of Switches but nope, or I am at least in that supposed small percentage. I had even checked my Switch’s air vent cover to see if it was cracked a couple weeks ago when the articles were being published but it was perfectly fine, so that means it HAS to be recent.

On top of it my Game Card cover is a little cracked and broked apart too, specifically the bit that secures the cover to the Switch. I take seriously good care of my electronics so there is little reason for it to start cracking and such. I have a suspicion though that extended use of games that use the fan heavily can cause the air vent cover to eventually crack, which is most likely the case.

Edit: Just noticed the top screw near the air vent is missing too, everything else appears to be fine.

@bluemage1989 For me it's more about other content releasing around the time of the new launch. Like say if Dark Souls Remastered released anywhere near September 14th, I know I wouldn't bother getting it because of the Torna DLC for Xenoblade 2. Then you have stuff like Smash and probably unannounced Wii U ports and the cycle just keeps repeating. Meanwhile if it had the same release date as the other platforms, dependent on the beta I may have picked it up in June especially with Mario Tennis Aces not having much replay value.

@Deku-Scrub
Just remember the first rule of mob mentality: When you're not part of the group that has experienced any event/occurrence/etc., said event seems anomalous and perhaps trivial/silly.

But when you experience the event, suddenly it's now applied to EVERYONE and is the worst thing in the world.

This little nugget of wisdom can pretty much be applied to anything, great or small.

Looks like we are getting another Picross game for Switch (Picross s2). I hope it's better than the first one on Switch which was really bare-bones experience. The e series was really lazy to begin with and then they went and didn't even include touch controls for Picross s.

I really like Picross but Jupiter does nothing interesting with their regular Picross titles. I'd rather buy themed ones like Sanrio Picross which I got two or three weeks ago for 3DS and completed it last week. It didn't really add anything new but it was a nice distraction. Since I just finished that game, I'm not really in a huge need of another Picross game right now. I'd rather have them localise the Japanese exclusive Final Fantasy Picross game for 3DS. That would be a day one buy.

Nintendo Switch Online codes (3 months and 12 months) are now preorderable on Amazon US.

Anyway, looking at the latest New 2DS XL trailers it seems Nintendo still considers the Switch a home console rather than a handheld.

Of course. I don't think the Switch has ever been considered a handheld. It's a home console that can be taken portable, which is a different niche than "handheld".

@Deku-Scrub It's possible the missing screw is the cause, not the effect. If somehow the screw came out, that could change the forces under flex of the system and lead to a crack. Question then becomes, what happened that made the screw fall out?

@Grumblevolcano At first I was excited, and then I remember family membership must be on the eShop, not Amazon. Urg.

@Grumblevolcano I get that and it's cool you know. From a sales point of view it would have been better releasing on time but just for my own self I tend to buy when I feel like playing something. I haven't bought Mario Tennis yet because I don't feel like playing it but early December when we have Smash/Pokémon I might suddenly feel like playing Mario Tennis.

And this is with the PS4 version being older on a much bigger install base. Guess that article earlier about Falcom saying their fans weren't on Nintendo hardware doesn't hold true as much now, well, at least not as much.

Here's hoping Falcom gets the hint and brings more good stuff.
