People keep acting like 20 million this fiscal year is some super lofty goal and I really don't get it.

Systems sell more in year 2 than in year 1 due to increased word of mouth and more games being available. The Switch sold >15 million units last fiscal year.

20 million is a conservative goal.

I feel the biggest barrier to 20 million this fiscal year if anything would be if the paid online service was terrible quality. Smash and Pokemon are good candidates for allowing 20 million to happen but in a way rely on the online service.

Speaking about Paid Online Service, has Nintendo announced yet on their website ?

@Anti-Matter There's still a few days of early May yet. The big announcement will most likely be early next week.

Hi Everyone
May I find out if the nintendo switch is compatible with this Monitor that I have attached in this link.
It is the ASUS VP278H 27 Inch monitor. Is this a good choice to link the switch with the monitor?
Appreciate a reply

Everything that has an HDMI connection can be used out of the box. Otherwise you need some sort of converter.

@YummyHappyPills You shouldn't give much credit to the "2018 only" thing, they said the same thing last year yet we got Metroid and Pokemon announcements

I wouldn't go in expecting future announcements for next year, but I wouldn't write it off either. And certainly wouldn't be surprised about it. On the other hand, it wouldn't surprise me if they did stick to this year only, which would help them cash some of those checks they wrote announcing games without showing anything, and would mean exciting times ahead for future announcements as we don't know much of anything beyond this year

I'm certain we will see at least one 2019 game. If 2018 is all they show, it's going to be a short Direct. I mean, they could focus 10 minutes on each of Smash, Fire Emblem, Yoshi... and Pokemon(?) I guess, but that wouldn't be very exciting. There's a new Labo kit too, but I'm not sure that's going to be in their E3 Direct.

Besides, they have to show Retro's project at some point, right? And Pikmin 4?

@Octane
If there will be Toy Con 03 featuring Camera and other kits that we haven't get from Variety kits, i can say "Oh, my wallet ! "

Nintendo LABO sold Very Expensive in Indonesia due to Tax of weight and volume of the box. It sold for approximately IDR 1,850,000 or US$ 132.83 !!
Almost Twice amount !

I can't imagine if i have to spend another US$ 132 for Toy Con 03.

@Octane Last year's spotlight event was 25 minutes. That could easily be filled with known future 2018 games, DLC, 3rd parties (if they haven't already abandoned the Switch) and a couple of 1st party 2018 surprises (maybe more Wii U ports).

I hope they make the Direct longer than just 25 minutes this year. last year felt very brief and rushed because of it, which some may enjoy but I thought was so so.

@DarthNocturnal
Ya but they said they would feature future games later. Doesn't mean they can't get a quick announcement trailer.

Idk, it doesn't matter. What they show or don't show won't change what's releasing or when it releases. Less announcements at e3 simply means more announcements to follow. More announcements at e3 means less announcements to follow.

At the end of the day, it all comes out in the wash. Give me Pikmin 4 and Retro's game and I'm good (and Fire Emblem, obviously)

I think this year's Direct will be good! They've had extra time to work on Switch projects after they abandoned the Wii U so I'd expect us to see the last of those, because they can't have many left after last year. They also have several games which we haven't heard about for a long time - FE, Yoshi, Metroid Prime etc).

Some new information about Bayonetta 3 and SMT V would be nice but they don't seem to be far into development. But I'll still hope for new trailers!

I really hope that Nintendo knows what they are doing if they are really only focusing E3 on 2018 releases. Smash Bros though will shift units, is just not a game I like. I just can't stand fighting games, they bore me. Also on that note turn based games/JRPGS bore me too, so that's Fire Emblem out. And Yoshi... well the less we talk about those games the better. Great for 5 year olds I guess. So looks like I will be relying on PS4 this year.

And don't forget for some games that we forgot so easily last time, such as My Time at Portia, Re:Legend, Arena of Valor, Steep, etc.

That's... really insulting. It's great for people who like those games, regardless of what their age may be. And alot more people like Yoshi platformers than just 5 year olds.

Just as alot more people like western AAA games than just zit faced tweens.

I agree! I enjoyed Yoshi's Woolly World 5 times more then I thought I would. Anybody that knows me knows I hate 2d Mario yet Yoshi's was fresh and exciting.

Yoshi's Wooly World was one of the best platformers I've ever played, and it's suitable for any age. Fun graphics, great level design, and tight controls made it the best title in the series released since SMW2. I wouldn't count the new Yoshi title out just yet, it seems they're putting their all into it from what we've seen.

They are saying they will be looking exclusively at 2019 games. You need to remember when Nintendo said in the past that there was a "Focus" that means a main attraction. This year that is Smash. But every time they have said we WONT talk about something, they stuck to that.

All the times they said NX or Mobile WONT be mentioned in this Direct. I expect 2019 wont be shown at all in any capacity.

@IceClimbers Systems sell more in year 2 than year 1 yes, flops aside, and combining the games people will be getting from 2017 with the new stuff it is very possible. My worry is how do they convert the gamers who didn't care for 2017, with this 2018? How do they make it even more enticing to the mainstream?

I maintain a price drop at least for the holiday is coming. They want to remain competitive with the systems get all the games they aren't getting, all at once in September/October. If those systems drop to $150 with all those games? Switch wont have room to breathe. Then again we now know PS4 has peaked that could very well be conservative.

20m is a reachable goal. The only consoles to sell that much in year 2 is the Wii, PS2 and DS to my knowledge.

Looking back from 2008 to now, the only systems to sell 20m in a year are the DS in 2008, 2009 and 2010, and the Wii in 2008 and 2009.

The PS4 only got close in 2017 at over 19m. I dont think this is Wii levels here. More like PS4.

But I am a very conservative person. I have routinely underestimated how much people are willing to spend after the Xmas season, the impact of Kirby and even ARMS. Though I did guess 17.5m units as of March so I wasn't far off there. I kind of learned after only predicting 11m by December XD

I mean it could happen. I just find it a little hard to believe in this state. It's such a sharp turn in estimations from Nintendo.
