So Im quite confident any of us wanting a XX localisation or any Monster Hunter in future on Switch...aint getting it.
Im glad to see World do so well, because it means the random ass gamble that defied logic paid off (It made sense when they started development at least) but it does mean someone has to get the shaft.

What Im not glad to see is the comments. God I hate fanboyism already but some of the comments about Switch users "complaining" and people saying "How much would a Mario game sell on PS4" just drives me mad.
Like do these people have nothing better to than demean others out of some sense of need because they are insecure bullies who want to feel vocally justified in a purchase?

So we are not getting a localization of XX because MH become popular on another platform? If anything, a localization should be easy bucks now when it has gotten some buzz.
And I am not surprised World did well. It has gotten solid reviews basically everywhere. And I still fail to see where they gambled. If anything, the least gambling they could do was releasing it on the power twins + PC, since it was impossible to predict anything about the state of Nintendo consoles. If Nintendo had done their ordinary 5 year cycle, NX would have released right before christmas and would have had a measly 2 mill install base at most. Far too low for a big budget game. (Unless your company is called "Nintendo" and your game is an evergreen title called "Zelda").
@Therad Im referring to the gamble of spending more money making a higher end game, for multiple consoles that arent super huge in Japan, away from the long standing established domestic Japanese fans on portables, because Japan, to chase an audience in the west that may or may not have existed.
As I said, when they started development it was a great idea. After flops like MVCI and SFV it didnt look so rosy, that Capcom was clearly light on cash and aiming for an audience that may not have existed was a bit of a risk, but as I said, when they started development it would have made perfect sense.
Its just their circumstances changed and they couldnt change course for a safer move, so it had to go as a bigger risk.
And yeah I dont see XX being localised.
Reason is...dure there is now western buzz for MH.
But not on Switch and I dont see the audience moving to it.

It's doing very well., 5 million shipped in just 3 days. The best selling entry before World was 3 with 4.9m lifetime sales. With sales like those, it won't be coming back as a Nintendo exclusive any time soon. Spin offs perhaps but not the main line series. The big question is, will Switch or future consoles even get a port of the main series again.
A simple localisation of XX and Capcom could ride the Monster Hunter wave all the way to Money Town! ..plus it'd help to appease the 'salty' Switch owners complaining on the internet (good PR) ..win/win?
It'd seemingly be the (relatively) easy and logical move...but it's kind of difficult to put 'Capcom' and 'logic' in the same sentence these days, so who knows?
@OorWullie I personally don't think the Switch will see any future Monster Hunter instalments. Of course if Nintendo's next system ends up being on par with the PS5/Xbox Two then yeah it may well get future games but as it stands I don't really see it happening.

@subpopz "This is where Switch could shine.....if they went beyond crossplay. If you play it on PC/Xbox, you can also access your account/character on Switch and take it on the go."
Was just about to write this. Would love to play on my PS4 then carry on with the Switch on long journeys etc... Wouldn't even need to be the full fat game as long as the stats and items synced between versions.
If World becomes a long term success, I think Capcom would use whatever Sony special deals they had for it with future games which would completely block out crossplay/cross save.
@Grumblevolcano Their stock surged for the XX Switch announcement, too. They just have really volatile stock. Not that MHW doesn't offer a lot of potential earnings, even if it tanks long term it's massive brand awareness courtesy of Sony that from a financial perspective can only be good.
Just be warned, if it were to succeed, this is Capcom we're talking about. MH will become a microtransaction-lootbox-seasonpass riddled nightmare by the time World 2 comes out
I read about a survey a while ago where they asked 3000 gamers what the main factors were when buying a console (results below)
Personally, I'm not sure if it'd be in my 'top 3' reasons, but cross-network play would certainly be a factor that I'd be considering from now on when buying a console (eg. choosing between Xbox and PS4) ..exclusives are the main reason to buy a Nintendo console for me - but less of a factor with Xbox/PS4, personally ..price is a biggie too (ie. I doubt that MS will make the 'Kinect bundled' mistake again!) ..but I see cross-play as such a positive thing, that it'd be a pretty big negative for PlayStation if they didn't offer it going forward - I can't speak for other people, but if there isn't much difference between the 'Xbox Two' and 'PS5', cross-play could be the deciding factor to lean one way over the other - it'd be interesting to know where cross-play would feature as a factor in the chart above

@subpopz There's cross-play between PC and PS4, and PC and XOne, and PC and Switch (I think). There's about two games that have cross-play between Switch and XOne. Even then I'm not sure the cross-play between XOne and PC always means Steam, because for the longest time they didn't allow cross-play with steam, only with PC games bought from the Xbox Live Store on PC.
Anyway, the thing is, once you allow cross-play, you can't go back. Microsoft won't lose anything from allowing it, because it not going to hurt any of their potential sales. In fact, it could actually boost sales if people are more inclined to play an Xbox if platforms didn't matter. So little Johnny can buy his Xbox, even though his friends all own a PS4. It's an easy way to play the 'good guys' in way. Meanwhile Sony is stuck between a rock and a hard place, because allowing it could mean less sales for them, but not allowing it means bad press. And every time people are buying a new console, chances are their friends own a PS4, and that could be an important factor in deciding between PS4 and Xbox One.
