@link3710 Yeah, very true I mean, if E3 comes and goes and we still haven't seen much in the way of 'core' first-party offerings - and the third-party line-up looks a little light - it could be cause for concern...but I don't think that we're anywhere near that point yet.

The 'core' were more than catered for in year 1 - and Nintendo kicked off 2018 with a Mini Direct showcasing a fairly broad selection of games (with, as @YummyHappyPills pointed out, the likes of Ys VIII, Tropical Freeze, Dark Souls etc as 'core' entries) ..I just don't think that one short little video showing off a new concept for a 'non core' market is something worth over-reacting about!

Kimishima seems quite switched-on (forgive the pun!) - learning from Nintendo's historical mistakes seems to almost be his 'M.O.' really! ..I have faith!

@NaviAndMii Sure, third-parties branching out is good, but as I've said, that helps only people who only own a Switch, or who want portability. I can only hope that lasts enough to keep thirds on board then, since if that falls off, the structure itself will unravel.

You're acting as if those games of 2017 will last you that long, to which I must respectfully disagree. As for faith, that's something I'll have in all that is guaranteed. I'll have no faith in anything that is even a little bit uncertain. You know what can happen if you've got full faith? The disappointment that is Scalebound's cancellation.

It sometimes feels like Microsoft is actively trying to get people to play Switch instead of XB1. I loaded up my XB1 today and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was on the Mixer tab (you have to pass the Mixer tab to get to the Store), throughout last year there were plenty of times when BotW, MK8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey, etc. appeared too.

So whats interesting is my Switch ran out of juice in handheld mode so went into sleep.

And now it wont turn on. Shows the battery charging icon then turns back off. Has been plugged in for a good while too.

@YummyHappyPills I've had that issue too, but how long is a good while? Even after a good ten minutes of charging mine refuses to turn on. Just leave it for a little longer.

I wasn't really meaning it that way - I was more just commenting on how their strategy looked from my point of view.

Having a launch year with so many big franchises (Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart, Splatoon, Xenoblade) was to appeal to the core gamer first and foremost...get them on board and you've got yourself a solid user base.

The third-parties tailed off on WiiU - and it'd appear that Nintendo made a concerted effort to bring them back (with reasonable success) on Switch...get them on board and you can incorporate their releases in to your own schedule and perhaps reach out to other demographics in the process.

I wasn't suggesting that Nintendo loaded their year one schedule with enough core games to last through 2018 - just that they loaded it with enough to bring the 'core' players in in the first place...the next challenge is to keep them - and they've certainly got some pretty big franchises remaining up their sleeves (Smash, Fire Emblem, Pokemon, Metroid etc) to appeal to those gamers - but, if there's a month (like last November, as @link3710 said) where the third-party line-up is particularly strong, that creates an opportunity for Nintendo to bring out something for a different audience (that month) instead...if not, they can just drop Smash Bros (or similar) to delight the core audience!

It just strikes me as the 'ideal' situation that Nintendo are perhaps aiming for - whether we like it or not, Nintendo is heavily invested in the 'kids' market, so things targeting a younger audience are inevitable - but I'm sure that, having invested so much in bringing the 'core gamers' back in the first place, they won't throw it all away in year two by neglecting that audience - we may just see an evolution of the strategy, that's all.

For me, personally, I probably do have enough games in my backlog from 2017 to see me through 2018 if I wanted (I still haven't even picked up Mario Odyssey!) ..but I appreciate that that's just because of the type of gamer I am - it's important that Nintendo back up Year 1 with a solid Year 2 (Kimishima said it was 'critical' himself) and I'm sure that there'll be plenty to satisfy for core and casual alike

...but I am ever the optimist!

Just a while longer and we might as well list the countries where it didn’t sell the fastest.

That's easy, Ireland of course. In all seriousness, it appears to be fastest selling in the US, Canada, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, and Japan so far.

Uh, are people seriously using one announcement to now question Nintendo's entire future with the Switch?!!

You've got to be kidding me...

Ya. Tendo's packing it up. They're done. They're not making real games anymore. Everything from here on out will be attached to a cardboard kit. Pokémon has been canceled, Metroid Prime 4 is no longer in development, the Fire Emblem series is now officially put to rest, and e3 will consist of nothing more than cardboard cups and string to use as a telephone.

Might as well just sell your Switch now.

I have to make a little rant about some Nintendo fans who claim to be loyal. Whenever Nintendo announces that they'll hold a direct or mini one, Nintendo always summarizes what the direct is going to be. It's natural that the company should be transparent to its fans. However, some fans, unfortunately, make high expectations even on a simple thing like yesterday before Nintendo Labo announcement. They annoy me when some Nintendo fans said that they want to see Animal Crossing or Smash Bros. 5, even though Nintendo said before the announcement that a new way to play Nintendo Switch is aimed for children and children at heart. After the announcement, those "Nintendo fans" get angry because they didn't get what they want even though Nintendo's statement was clear. They also get angry because the product is not aimed for them.

What annoys me even more is that these so-called "Nintendo Pros" care nothing but Smash Bros. because they think that it's the only game Nintendo makes. I mean come on, if it weren't for great games like Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Metroid and so on, Smash Bros. wouldn't have exist. Even if they're joking, it's getting too old and annoying. I wish they mentally grow up because they're ruining the reputation of us Nintendo old timers.

Making promise is easy. The hard part is keeping it.

@NaviAndMii That investing in core has paid off pretty well for them hasn't it? So there's that. And what they could do, besides giving third-party spotlights which I'm all for, is make sure they've got games that last long, like Splatoon 2.

I wouldn't be surprised if they made their online really get online with a Monster Hunter. Nothing gets people to say "Well, all right then" like the online fun that is Monster Hunter.

I believe it's Nintendo's worst selling console to date in Greenland. It hasn't yet released there though so that may explain why.

Ahh and thus it is thrown into irrelevancy. Until it can pick up those sales, I'm afraid the Switch will never be taken seriously.

Just came to post about Wild Guns Reloaded. It looks great!I wonder if it will have pointer controls?

On another note, we've got 4 shoot-em-ups coming next week. The 2 Psikyo classics and Space Dave and the Tachyon Project. All 4 different enough from each other that I can't resist any of them. I don't think I've ever bought 4 shoot-em-ups on the same day in my life but I will be next week.

Seriously, people expecting new episodes of Animal crossing or any other series or the Virtual console when they said it was "a new way to play with Switch" is just silly.
Anything related to simply a new game software was the only thing I was sure I couldn't expect. I hoped it could be related to multimedia apps but I suspected it was going to be something related to new peripherals or something like that

You know what's weird, I actually haven't seen anyone outright say they expected a new Animal Crossing or Smash Bros. during the announcement. All I've seen so far is people complaining about other people who allegedly expected a new Animal Crossing or Smash Bros.
