Yeah and VC was a good way of doing that. I hope the reason there's no VC on Switch is just Nintendo giving 3rd parties breathing room. I mean come on, for example most Nintendo fans would rather buy all the below games on Switch for like the 5th time than DOOM 2016 for about the same price:
Mega Man 1-5: Buy a cartridge, no re-releases until Wii in the EU
Mega Man 6: Never released here PERIOD until 3DS
Mega Man 7: Buy a cartridge until re-released on Wii U
Mega Man 8: Buy a disc, not re-released until Legacy Collection 2 (But it was on PS3 in the US)
Mega Man X/2: Buy a cart until put on the Wii
Mega Man X3: Buy a cart until released on the Wii U
Mega Man X4/5/6: Buy an original disc
Mega Man Legends/2/TB: Buy a disc, rereleased on PS3 in the US.
So, I don't know how those PS2 collections ran. All I know is my first experience with Mega Man 8 was a re-release 20 years after the fact.

Even if they haven't been re-released, we're talking about NES/SNES games. Again, yes I want them. Nobody's saying they aren't wanted.
But I don't care if it's the best SNES game ever created, it's still a SNES game. Not exactly the type of thing to get worked up over, especially a small handful at that. If it were the entire SNES library... ok, then I'd be crying out for it.

@MegaTen Yeah, it is good to have classic games on Switch. That said, later on in the Switch lifecycle would make the most sense. Secure that 3rd parties aren't going to pull another Wii U situation and then release the classics. During that waiting time, Nintendo can focus on new games and bringing over the best of the Wii U library.
@JaxonH I'm quite happy us in the EU finally get to play Final Fantasy 6 SNES, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, Secret of Mana, etc. after, you know, never getting them, thanks to these re-releases.
Sure, if you've had the game before it's no big deal.
But if it's completely new to your market? Yeah. Big deal.
Like if Capcom ever released Mega Man Star Force 3 here, I'd be bouncing around the room.

@JaxonH I don't see how them being NES/SNES collections devalues them. They're composed of games that mostly haven't been re-released, and the Switch is the only platform on which one can play them portably. Their absence is baffling and, for many of us, disappointing.
I'd definitely rather get these collections than something like LA Noire, and I think a lot of Nintendo fans would agree.

@BLP_Software whoa back tf up.. Europe never got FF3 on SNES? Or wait.. i swear to god you got that game at least on the PS1 release.. i mean i thought Europe was basically America 2.
Next week is another cracker. I'll be getting Skyrim and Rocket League and I'll download Pinball FX 3 for the ( I think) free Sorcerers Tale table and I'll purchase another couple of tables. LA Noire will need to wait for now. I'll eventually get Rime too but that will need to wait also. If only they got that out 2 or 3 months ago, it would have done really well, even at that price. Releasing it now though I'm not so sure it will.
I also like the look of Lumo, it got decent reviews on PS4 and I'm hoping Aces of the Luftwaffe turns out well. Ginger also looks interesting,it's a 3d platformer and the graphics look decent. Games like these are unfortunately low priority now though as I need to be sensible with my money.
Actually fun fact about FF, if you don't count Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (Which I think had a different name here) our first Final Fantasy here was SEVEN.
And we didn't get Earthbound until Wii U. Super Mario RPG on Wii. Chrono Trigger we didn't get until PS1. Basically if it was an SNES or NES RPG, we didn't get it.

@Spoony_Tech Nice one, I love that table. I look forward to playing it in vertical mode. My mate keeps telling me how great Pinball FX 3 is with the new score challenges and multiplayer.I can't wait.
As for VC, if they just release the games as they were with no extras then I couldn't really care about if it comes or not. Gamecube VC I'll certainly be interested in but that doesn't come then I'll buy SMW and a couple of other SNES games and that'll be it. I've had my fill of all the classics over the last 2 generations and back in the 90's. I don't think they will be released in their original state though, I expect them to have a few additions, at the very least given the Hamster treatment . If so I'll be much more interested. Still, the thought of more arcade classics potentially from Sega, Namco, Taito and Capcom to go with the Neo Geo, Irem and Psikyo games is a far more exciting prospect than VC, even with extras.
To me, it's much more fun to play a classic retro game that I maybe only played a few times briefly 20+ years ago,if I even played it at all, than buy and play the same old games for the umpteenth time.

Chrono Trigger we didn't get until PS1.
It was called Mystic Quest: Legend.
Us PAL region citizens actually had an even longer wait for Chrono Trigger, we didn't get it until it was released on Nintendo DS in February 2009!
@BLP_Software Yeah, most were weird Europeanized RPGs, like Illusion of Time, Secret of Evermore, and Mystic Quest Legend, but at least we got Terranigma, Secret of Mana, and Shadowrun as well.
These were harsh times. It was basically EU having Terranigma while NA having Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy 6, EVO: Search for Eden, Ogre Battle, Lufia, etc. etc. etc. Without importing from the US and buying an adapter, you had to skip almost all the RPG masterpieces of that era.
@OorWullie My only worry is I didn't see Zen Pinball in this weeks update. Zen has had a spotty past with getting their tables out when they say they're coming in both EU and NA for Nintendo systems.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
@Ralizah
It's not about devaluing, it's about being extremely easy to obtain, it's about already being on multiple consoles, it's about being available for 30 years now.
Again. Does that mean I don't want them? No. Does it mean I don't care? No. Does it mean the gamss aren't good? No. Does it mean it wouldn't be awesome to see on Switch? No.
But they are 30 year old games. I'm not going to get bent out of shape over a small handful of 30 year old games. For numerous reasons. Wanting a brand new Monster Hunter on Switch? Sure. Wanting Chip n Dale from the NES? Sorry, but no

@JaxonH Again, most of these games haven't seen much in the way of re-releases, so that point is moot. And even if they had, it wouldn't make them inherently less valuable or appealing as Switch games. Especially since these games have never been released on a portable system before.

@MegaTen I saw that, but decided to keep quiet. I really hope Nintendo doesn't go there, ever, though arguably according to some, they already have gone there in different forms....
