@erv A lot are likely playing the SNES Classic Mini, though this evening in Ireland and Wales we'll be taking a break to hopefully see Ireland win. I feel really sorry for Scotland. If they hadn't started so poorly and they were minutes away from beating England a few games ago and should have won last night too.

@KirbyTheVampire Golf games can be great especially the EA games. Haven't been able to play one since the Wii unfortunately. PES was also great on Wii but again haven't been able to play one since as a Nintendo only gamer.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Golf games are kinda fun. They're not really fun enough that I'd spend money on them though, unfortunately. It's the kinda thing where I'd be happy to go to a friends house and play an hour or so of it, and then basically forget about it after that.

I've always been into the less realistic sports games. Even on the front of racing games I'd rather play something like MK8D than GT Sport.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE your response is brilliant

Oh and I've always been more of a mario strikers fan. Semi realistic sports games rarely struck a nerve for me. Strikers had an enjoyability factor, so to speak.

In short, I like seeing the stuff I appreciate being successful. It's just that, all in all, it's more fun to talk and find out about games than to contemplate their numbers.

Keep getting myself hyped for Mario this month. Hoping I can afford the amiibo as well, they look gorgeous

Sorry for the rare double post, but I'm in a similar camp. I actually really like the amiibo and depending on what they do, they might really be worth it on this classic.

I could be wrong, but I believe that sales figures for games released on Nintendo systems don't include digital downloads (for some reason) which could perhaps explain FIFA 18's relatively poor showing in the UK sales charts (?) ..last time I checked it was #3 on the UK eShop chart - maybe people downloaded it instead?

Although, I must admit I haven't bought it yet, despite being a huge football (soccer) fan - I'm just still so 'on the fence' about the idea of a 'gimped' custom built version of FIFA that I'm getting splinters! It just comes down to how much I'd be willing to sacrifice for the ability to take a game with me on the go - and this is really right on the limit...but I do love football - and I do like playing my Switch on the bus etc - so, erm, maybe?

@NaviAndMii UK digital prices are usually much higher than retail, so I doubt it

@IceClimbers Yeah, you could be right...

The eShop chart does make for more encouraging reading for FIFA at least - it's sitting third (behind two digital-only games; Stardew Valley and Golf Story) - and that isn't taking in to account any physical copies of FIFA sold...but, without actual figures, it's difficult to read too much in to it - FIFA could be in quite a distant third place for all we know.

Oh, boy. If I weren't short on money, I would have bought a lot of games right now. Switch is becoming a great console for me.

Making promise is easy. The hard part is keeping it.

Yeah, to me, in six months, Switch has gone from a "There's nothing worth buying" to "Carp , I can't afford (the time or the money) for all those!"

The future is looking very rosey

@erv Ireland won this evening, so we can go back to playing the SNES Classic Mini for another while. It was an exciting match.

"Gimped" is a matter of perspective.

Would you consider FIFA on Vita/3DS "gimped" or would you consider them with different expectations because they are handheld versions? I certainly wouldn't hold them to the same standard as the PS4 version- that would be ridiculous. Likewise, would you consider FIFA 18 on PS3/360 "gimped" or would you evaluate them with different expectations because those systems are not as capable and obviously don't run Frostbyte? They are still $60 versions of the game, and up until 2 years ago were considered fully featured.

The Switch version is not only well beyond past handheld entries such as the Vita/3DS versions, it's actually well beyond the $60 PS3/360 versions too, which again were considered fully featured up until two years ago, and even now aren't really considered "gimped" because people understand they're running on less capable hardware. Not only does the Switch version look better, run better, offer higher resolution, more modes and content, it doubles the value by providing both a console and handheld version in one, where even the handheld version surpasses the $60 PS3/360 versions.

So sure, you could make a comparison to the $60 PS4/X1 versions and conclude FIFA 18 is "gimped", or you could make a comparison to the $60 PS3/360 versions (which is the lowest common denominator for Switch, and just as close a comparison as PS4/X1) and conclude FIFA 18 is the definitive version, not just for handheld versions but for console versions which are unable to run on Frostbyte.

Personally I find there to be far more merit in the latter comparison then the former. Not to mention, if people were perfectly ok with the last Vita version, it's hard to understand how one could not be ok with FIFA 18 on Switch, which is night and day, and a huge multi-generational leap for portable FIFA. If PS3/360 versions were considered full parity up until 2 years ago, and Switch surpasses those in every respect, is the problem really that the game doesn't have enough content to be worth the money? Obviously the friend invites is a separate issue though. There is no excuse for that.

@NaviAndMii By buying the Switch port. You'll be missing the Journey mode and more! Also can't play with your friends online. For 60 bucks,it's a tough sale. If it was 40 it would be a different story.

By not buying the Switch port you'll be missing an entire handheld version and more. Also can't set up in tabletop mode and play arcade style anywhere, or play with any friend on the spot. For $60, it's a tough sale buying any other version. If they were $40 it would be a different story, since you're only getting one version- console only with no handheld.

The argument goes both ways. At the end of the day they're both just as viable. It just depends on what you value most. If you don't care about portability the Switch versions loses its appeal. Likewise, if you do but don't care about playing friends online, the other versions lose their appeal. Had this been on any other console, it would not be a viable option in comparison. But thanks to the inherent benefits and double value offered for each and every Switch release, even a game with a few less features can ultimately be the better value, and the better purchase. Games on PS4 and Xbox one are going to have a very hard time competing with Switch versions that innately offer twice as much value. Even games with 3/4 as much content, once you doubled/triple the value on account of getting a console version, handheld version and portable console arcade version via tabletop with 2 player on the spot, still comes out to be 1.5x to 2.25x the value/appeal over current gen versions. Thank Nintendo for that. But at the end of the day, it doesn't matter why it offers more value, all that matters is that it does.

@rjejr
Another coworker sold on a Switch at #Switchworld

This time it's Cindy, who works fluoroscope in the room next to me. She wants to buy one for her girls. Had me demo the unit for her, show her how you can prop it up on its kickstand and remove the controllers and pass one to someone else so that two people can play at once, recommended some games, etc. told her she needed a screen protector and I explained with the eShop was and how to buy games digitally.

Is taking it anywhere you go really worth paying 60 dollars? While knowing damn well you can't play with your friends online? Not everyone lives near their friends so local play is out of the question for some people. And also knowing damn well it's missing some features?
