@Ryu_Niiyama Best launch year for a console I've ever seen, actually. Immediately started off on the right foot when they launched it with BotW, and we've been getting major releases almost every month since then.

Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)

@Ralizah I'm inclined to agree. I started thinking about all the other launch years and I don't remember any of them being this packed. Not every game is for everyone but I think everyone has something to play. That is fricken magical in my opinion.

Oxenfree is making the switch.

"Get ready for a spooky journey when Night School Studios’ Oxenfree comes to Nintendo Switch this October. Oxenfree is a paranormal adventure game that follows the rebellious Alex around a decommissioned military island with her new stepbrother after they accidentally open a ghostly portal while partying on the beach with some friends. Travel around the island looking for clues to uncover its mysterious past and find out exactly what caused this terrifying rift to open."

Sounds fun.

Seriously cannot wait to play Nine Parchments. @Ralizah Totally agree. The first 6 months has been amazing and the next 6 months looks even better.

@GrailUK I hope it'll be good. Love me some co-op games.

@UmniKnight I honestly can't get over how many of those games (and loads from NintyUK yesterday) I want! I am giddy with..with...erm...the lack of cash in my wallet...ummm...

@Ryu_Niiyama I'd say it has been both a fantastic and horrible first year. Fantastic in the form of what has been brought for Switch. Horrible because at the same time Nintendo are destroying the experiences I loved with Wii U from the death of Miiverse and all the games affected massively by it to the removal of SplatNet. I would not be surprised in the slightest if Nintendo kill off the Wii U's online multiplayer around the time of the paid Switch online subscription.

@Grumblevolcano Aww you reminded me of miiverse...Who let the onion cutting ninjas in here? WiiU is what it is at this point, I feel. I love the wiiu...its still my favorite system (if the switch gets a comparable library and VC it will knife the poor gamepad in the back though) but I can understand why Nintendo is pushing for the sunset of WiiU (and 3ds) services. I'm still holding out hope they might try something later on similar to miiverse on the switch after the paid services go live.

I don't think they will shut down the wiiu services instantly...unless traffic falls off a cliff. I would give them a year to two years ...DQX (granted this is a paid service) and other online games are still being played.

@Ryu_Niiyama I too understand but hoped they could minimize the damage more or at least port or have a very similar sequel for the affected games to Switch. Sure that has happened to a degree already (MK8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2) but stuff like XCX doesn't seem certain (to me XC and XCX are kind of like Mega Man and Mega Man X so XC2 isn't a solution).

On another note, the August Xbox Live Rewards survey suggests Microsoft might be looking into a Club Nintendo type service for Xbox where there's a variety of physical and digital rewards to spend points on that are earned by buying both physical and digital Xbox content. I hope it happens but still miss Club Nintendo a lot especially as My Nintendo is still looking like a useless service.

Seeing M&R sitting alongside BOTW, ARMS, Splatoon 2 and MK8D on my Switch makes me really happy. For a console that's only been out 6 months to have that amount of top tier titles is unprecedented. Then to think in just 3 more months Odyssey and Xenoblade 2 will be among them as well as some quality 3rd party releases like FIFA, Skyrim and Rocket League. The Switch is well on it's way to being the greatest console I've ever owned.

And did someone say Worms? Yaaaassssssss

Cheers to that. Switch is already my favorite console. Not only because of the tribrid functionality but the gosh dang games themselves...

In before somebody says but, but, 2 of those games are Wii U games and one is basically Wii U 1.5 (Splatoon 2).

I agree with the best launch ever. I can't remember this many high quality games released in the first year of any systems life. Don't care if 2 are from last gen as they are more high quality games. By the time the full year is over I would've spent about 1250$ in the Switches first year. I'm not buying games either just because there's not much to choose from. I buying only want I want and I still can't keep up with them time wise.

Equating Superman 64 to Star Fox Zero? Pssh. Comparing Star Fox Zero to E.T. is where it's at, obviously.

GCN had Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion, Smash Bros Melee, Rogue Squadron 2, Wave Race: Blue Storm SSX Tricky, Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2, Super Mario Sunshine, THPS 3 and 4, Bomberman Generation, Animal Crossing, Mario Party 4, Sonic Adventure 2, Star Fox Adventures and Sonic Mega Collection

If Metroid Prime had come out literally a day earlier, it would count too (GCN would've won by default if that happened tbh).

The impressive thing is that there are probably still more high quality releases on Switch by the time we get to early March 2018 (especially if I'm using Star Fox Adventures as and example of high quality ). It is different though, since GCN was halfway there to having notable retail multi-console releases around that time (even if only a few are on that list I made), whereas Switch succeeded because there's a billion games out there and only a small fraction of even the really good ones are big retail titles (and admittedly even GCN had a bit of a drought IIRC between the Sonic Adventure 2 port around February(?) and Mario Sunshine in August).

Indies don't count as much towards a console's favor for various reasons (even if only some of them are justified) and "major console has a good chunk of good and interesting indie games" is just a normal expectation now.

Switch will probably be better in its first year for software but I could never put it above GCN, because of nostalgia. Being 11 years old, getting a new console (first time I ever got one close to release), with such a huge jump in graphics, playing this many awesome games (and quite a few more lesser ones I still enjoyed!) in one year, is never gonna be replicated. Obviously. The fact that Smash Bros Melee and Metroid Prime are 2 of my top 5 fav games also helps.

Played some Mario Maker tonight over my usual Overwatch nightlies and it made me super depressed about Miiverse dying off. That game screams for Miiverse. Im so sad about this!

@kkslider5552000 Everyone always forgets about the GameCube.

I own 7 of those "launch" titles, 8 if we include Prime (and the only reason I don't own Super Monkey Ball is because one of my friends owned it). So far, only Odyssey is on my radar for the Switch. I'll wait for a price drop on Splatoon 2 and ARMS. So in terms of quantity, GameCube still wins for me. Hadn't I owned a Wii U, the Switch would've been a very close second.

SNES, PS2, and GameCube were all amazing launch systems.

Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill

I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!

Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.
