@Turbo857 Don't forget that until the Eurogamer leak in July 2016 or if you didn't believe that, the Switch reveal in October 2016 most people expected NX to be only a successor to the Wii U meanwhile the 3DS family continued for several more years. The big NX rumour battle was Eurogamer Nvidia hybrid vs. Supermetaldave AMD powerhouse home console.
@Ralizah I think it's a great article, well written and makes sense. For Wii U owners being asked to pay full price again for games we've already played and with minimal effort, it is a bit rich of Nintendo.
And another point in it is how long now will we have to wait for Mario Kart 9 or the next true Smash Bros. if Nintendo release a DX version of the Wii U game?
@MarcelRguez Ehh, Zelda I'd consider more of a multiplat. It wasn't already available on Wii U for some time first. Lego City and Rayman are 3rd party games, so it's not like Nintendo is the one recycling them.
You definitely have a point with Smash though.
@Ralizah Hell, the PS4 is still getting a ton of ports and remasters even with a fleshed out library. Wouldn't surprise me if the Switch is the same way.
@MarcelRguez It has little to do with the rumors and more it just seems like something they'd do anyway. Port over one of their most successful late-life Wii U games to their booming new console? Seems pretty obvious.

Not really. Those ports are more for people who didn't own the original game anyway. Wii U was a failed console, so it'd be a shame to let games that are still viable and stuffed with content like MK8 and Smash rot on the Wii U.
You can sell your older version of a game and put the money toward the newer version, which should cut the price of the upgrade substantially considering Nintendo releases rarely drop much in resale value, or you can ignore these new versions and play the original ones on your Wii U. Complaining about these ports because you don't want to pay for them seems kind of asinine, though. And, as I said, ports and remasters are standard fare for a console's early years, as they help pad out the library before new projects start coming out, so this article's central complaint is pretty ludicrous, and seems like it was written by somebody who has never followed a console launch before.

Hopefully a long time. These upgraded releases allow new players to enjoy the game for the first time, Wii U owners to enjoy the game in a superior form, and Nintendo to pursue projects that aren't related to the Smash and Mario Kart franchises.

Tbh I'm very surprised Pokemon didn't make an appearance on the Switch as the third version. But I guess it's been a while since they did that anyway. It'll happen though, it just might not be the Sun/Moon gen of pokemon.
Seriously, dude: Forbes should no longer be taken seriously when they write articles on Nintendo. I lost respect for them a long time ago

Those games didn't rot on Wii U. MK8 sold over 8 million copies. Smash Bros. sold over 5 million and would have sold more had there been no 3DS version and had they launched simultaneously.
Actually your whole reply is full of ridiculous statements.
@Ralizah "and Nintendo to pursue projects that aren't related to the Smash and Mario Kart franchises."
I feel the urge to play the Hallelujah Chorus. I've been hearing about those games non-stop since 2013. Fun as they are, it's time for new games already!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE My own opinion is that this is the only MK and Smash for Switch (if Smash becomes a thing. It seemed obvious until Pokken, now I'm not sure.) Smash is a little less certain because it already lived a healthy life on a successful system (3DS) that's still for sale. MK8 and Pokken did not. But Kart 9 will probably be on the NEXT system. Two MK's on Switch would be a bit much. And with DLC, Smash (if it comes) won't need to be replaced for a time. Sakurai takes a LONG time making that game, and his injuries make it harder to do. I'm not sure even if they wanted a new Smash he could be satisfied with it being done in a 6 year life cycle at this point. What new ideas could he really add to it?
@Operative2-0 SMM, while the online play would be ideal on Switch, a game that you spend MOST of your time on the handheld touch screen seems like a weird fit for Switch. I wouldn't be colored surprised if they did something with it. But I'm also not thinking it's an obvious or even probable port. That was designed around the stylus driven gamepad entirely. More than almost any other game that's the game I'd expect to die on WiiU. That was the Wii Sports of the WiiU. It made it to 3DS but even that was gimped.

Since the WiiU console supply line is cut off (a bit before the Switch was even launched) leaving future owners of the WiiU to buy said games outta luck. It would pretty much be rotting.
Was Mariobro4. No, I'm not taking off my backpack...it's important.
@NEStalgia I think it'll be the game where they finally acknowledge the touch screen. It's easy marketing. Take it on the go, design your levels, plop it into the dock, play others. Easy. I'd be extremely shocked if they don't port.

8 and 5 million on a system that sold fewer than 14 million units worldwide. Can you imagine how much better those games might have sold on a successful console? I'd love to find out, and I'm pretty sure Nintendo would, too.
Nintendo can and should rescue as many of the Wii U's amazing games as it can as the console sinks into the ocean, forgotten by time.
Actually your whole reply is full of ridiculous statements.
Accusations without logical arguments backing them up are meaningless, though. All I'm seeing is someone who is still salty because his favorite console was abandoned by its creator. While I get that (I'm still annoyed with Sony about their treatment of the Vita and the way most of its best exclusives went to other, more successful systems), it's time to move on. Like it or not, the Wii U is dead and the Switch is the future. It makes PERFECT sense to port its best games to the Switch and salvage some value from the wreckage.
@NEStalgia I just don't really see what a new Smash or Mario Kart would add that couldn't be accomplished through further DLC expansion. Especially Smash. If you include all the DLC and modes from both games, it has a staggering amount of content. I'm pretty sure trying to one-up this version would kill Sakurai at this point. Time to move on to new properties.
