@Octane Hi i read the Community Rules but I did not see anything about posting links. My link was to a very useful youtube video about the nintendo switch. But if you think that is not Ok, then I am in the wrong forum. You can delete my account.

@skywake Yeah, the worst part is that we haven't even seen the Wii U version since the E3 build.. Not even one video. But Nintendo said that the sound quality and resolution were the only differences, so I'm going to hold them accountable for that. I presume that the Wii U versions runs like Switch version, considering the resolution is the same in Switch handheld mode, I think that's also plausible. We'll see I guess..

Technically they've also listed a few other things where the Wii U version is behind. And in fairly official statements. We know that the Wii U version requires a data pack to be installed to the HDD. I think we can be fairly confident that the draw distance and load times are going to be lower as a result.

Also while I have been trying to avoid spoilers I have looked at some of the footage of the Switch OS stuff and the BotW title screen. I don't think I've seen a Wii U game get to the title screen that quickly. I assume that's going to be true of Switch games in general and throughout the game.

Other stuff like the better lighting and so on? That's speculative based on comparisons with ripped youtube footage and hands on with pre-release builds. Same with people's opinions about framerates. But we do know the Wii U version is going to be a bit behind. So I wouldn't at all be shocked if the Wii U version, which is running at 720p, also stutters a bit in the same way that the Switch version does running at 900p while docked. If not a bit worse.

@skywake Here's the list Nintendo posted. The first three aren't differences. No.7 is expected, the last note it's not of importance in this case. The only difference I didn't include was the 3GB patch, as you already noted. I would assume that the patch exists specifically to match loading performance on the Wii U with the performance on the Switch.

Nintendo wrote:

  • Both launch on the same day, March 3.
  • Both have a frame rate of 30fps.
  • Both versions of the game offer the same content.
  • On a TV, the Nintendo Switch version of the game renders in 900p while the Wii U version renders in 720p.
  • The Nintendo Switch version has higher-quality environmental sounds. As a result, the sound of steps, water, grass, etc. are more realistic and enhance the game’s Open-Air feel.
  • The physical copy of the Wii U version will require 3GB of available memory on the Wii U system or an external drive.
  • Some icons, such as onscreen buttons, differ between the two versions.
  • A Special Edition and Master Edition of the Wii U version are not available.

Well, you may not like this this, but then ok! I agree! I do think this forum and forums like it are just filled with hysteria, both positive and negative. And it makes sense. Whenever you get a group of people together who are passionate about something, hysteria is likely to follow.

Seriously! Thank you for proving my point, Octane!

Back to the differences between versions of Zelda, there are also some pretty obvious differences in the draw distance.

First Zelda review is in from Edge. It's a 10/10 Here's the run down, I omitted spoiler bullet points

– EDGE indicates that the game is very dense
– You’ll roam around and get distracted by dozens of different things “an absolute, and unremitting pleasure to get lost in”
Over 100 shrines and they are multi purpose
– The world feels well realized despite game like speed potions
Four beasts must be exorcised, with a couple sub missions a final dungeon and a boss fight for each
– If you focus on just the main quest you’re looking at about 20 hours
You’ll have all the tools you need after playing 4 shrines (opening hour)
Defeating beasts will net you RPG like stat boosts and a new power with a big cool down that breaks the game in ways they wouldn’t spoil
– Frame rate is a little uneven on the Wii U version, dropping to teens in very busy sequences like heavy weather effects, rarely when it matters
Nuts and bolts combat is a little unpredictable at times but that encourages you to the many other tools and powers at your disposal

I really liked this closing paragraph from the Metro preview. It's a hype increaser.

"We’re doing our best to find faults here but the truth is we’re hugely impressed. We already know some things we can’t talk about here, and other secrets that have been hinted to us by Nintendo. At this stage we'd be shocked if this didn’t turn out to be the best Zelda since Ocarina Of Time. It may even surpass it, and since many still regard that as the best video game ever made it becomes almost impossible to overstate just how good Breath Of The Wild is."

Ugh man, I really want to get a Switch and Breath of the Wild at launch, but I'd rather Nintendo iron out the kinks with that Bluetooth issue first, and I also prefer buying at least 3 games with a new system, and none of the launch games interest me aside from BotW. Well, on the plus side, at least I'll get a look at the games announced at E3 and can prioritize which ones to get.

What do you guys think the chances are of a Monster Hunter coming this year?

@OorWullie I asked the question about the global eShop access a while ago, and unfortunately is seems we don't know at this point.

One of the downsides to the 3DS was it meant I had to buy a Japanese console, but one of the upsides to that was unlimited access to the Japanese eShop with no import fees.

If the Switch is region free, but only has access to one country's eShop, then it's most of the way there, but not all.

I'd really like to know though.

This year? Hard to say... I believe unequivocally that we will see Monster Hunter, and I hope to see it revealed at e3. They did say they wanted to expand and make a full console game, and Switch is the right system given the 3DS success and it's basically Nintendo exclusive. But Idk when we'll see it.

My guess is we'll see one next year for sure. Maybe this year though. Reggie seemed to smirk when Pro Jared asked for MH so...

@Maxz
You can change your system region and play games in different languages by doing so. My guess is you could switch your region, access that regions eShop to buy, then switch back to your region. Maybe.

@JaxonH GIANT FINGERS CROSSED EMOTICON

Speaking of crosses, we might see port of Double Cross, or possibly something brand new. Either way, I'm absolutely sure a Monster Hunter is being worked on. The Switch is the perfect system for it.

Yeah that's pretty much what I'm thinking too. Next year is probably more likely, but fingers crossed for this year.

@JaxonH Isn't there an embargo on reviews until 2nd March? How did Edge get a review for the game out already?

No idea lol.

@GrailUK The pain is real! I need Switch news every hour!

@JaxonH That makes sense though I assume they can't post any reviews on their website as the would surely be unfair to other sites that can't post them until Thursday?
