Basically... is Nintendo repeating a mistake or two? Sure. Is Nintendo repeating all mistakes from Wii U? Definitely not.
Region free, online accounts, snappy OS, system seller at launch, software spread throughout the year, better online and voice chat, sexy appealing system vs clumsy toy like plastic, courting 3rd party devs, easy to port to, solid marketing...
I'd say they learned from the vast majority of Wii U mistakes. Are there still one or two stragglers? Of course. But all in all this is the most forward thinking, issue addressing console I've seen from Nintendo in decades. I'm betting if you pareto Wii U issues, the vital few have been addressed vs the trivial many, since roughly 80% of the Wii U's problems likely stemmed from 20% of its known issues. I know my personal issues have mostly been addressed.
80% of problems can be attributed to 20% of causes (focus on fixing those 20% of causes)
80% of a company's profits come from 20% of its customers (like us)
80% of a company's complaints come from 20% of its customers (eh ehm...)
80% of a company's profits come from 20% of the time its staff spent
80% of a company's revenue comes from 20% of its products (big name system sellers- Mario, Zelda, Pokémon)
@gcunit I have more gripes with Polygon than any users. Not doing reviews because of difficulty. Need a slap back to 1985 IMO.
@JaxonH Those comments about Switch development are very heartening, just as I inferred from sources and comments and what Ive been told. So custom engines can be brought over with relative ease, and middleware is supported outright. Interesting they wanted to change GPU usage dependant on scenes. I suppose in theory that would be nice, but it wouldn't be beneficial and it would mess with power draw too, constantly changing internal settings.

They said it took 5 programmers 3 months to port to Wii U (15 man-months) and 4 programmers 4 months to port to 3DS (16 man-months).
But for Switch, it took 2 programmers 1 month (2 man-months).
That's roughly 12.5% of the time it took to port to Wii U or 3DS, or 800% faster
Also said Capcom told Nintendo the memory wouldn't be enough compared to other consoles, and Nintendo listened, responded and increased the memory according to Capcom's recommendation. That's huge.

I doubt its HDD space, as in development memory is usually referring to RAM...and if this was back with those initial documents....then it either came with less than 4GB of RAM initially...or it now has more than that, and the truth is the dev kits have been routinely upgraded leading to the final retail product.

There's some really good points to me in last Nintendo-Capcom relationship news. The fact that Nintendo listened, porting time REALLY cutted. This can really be good starting points for 3rd parties to bring more. What i would like from Capcom most of all? Definitely a Monster Hunter!
@JaxonH The first 20% of your life feel like 80%, the rest goes so much faster..
Anyway, that's good to hear, RE7 on the Switch would be pretty important, I'd love to see it happen. And once the RE Engine is compatible, expect the upcoming RE games as well. Add a Monster Hunter and some Capcom fighting games in the mix and you've got decent Capcom support. Also, I love Capcom, but they're literally the only company that could've goofed so hard in thinking that the Switch was just a screen lol.
@BLP_Software I think they're talking about RAM, they couldn't care less about internal storage. 32GB is still nothing to write home about compared to the standard 500GB on other platforms, so I'm pretty sure it's RAM.

Totally agree, i don't really see how that could have been storage memory. No way
@Octane Well this then begs the question, because Ninty hasn't given me this info yet: Is the Eurogamer leaks based on the specs Capcom wanted boosted, or the specs they were boosted too? Because the rumours say the former.

80% of mistakes are made in 20% of your life 😉 (How true)
If Nintendo is making VR behind the scenes, they very well might, since RE7 is not only a franchise that's been on Nintendo and done well, but also showcases VR. Would be a perfect launch game with Switch VR.
Also... Monster Hunter. A console quality MH built ground up for Switch. Needs to happen.

If I had to guess, I'd say Switch initially only used 2gb like Wii U, to which Capcom replied "it's definitely not enough" and so they doubled to 4gb.
Cause let's look at PS4- it only had 4.5 usable memory out of that 8gb. If Switch had 4gb, and an OS that is running on separate RAM (like it did on Wii U), there's no way Capcom would say 4 vs 4.5 isn't enough.
So it had to have been 2gb initially, then doubled to 4gb. Which is respectably close to what other consoles allocate for games.

@BLP_Software The rumour was 4GB of RAM, right? So you're suggesting that Capcom thought that was too low and Ninty doubled it perchance? That could be true, because I can't imagine they wanted to go with something lower than 4GB originally.
Edit: I thought the Wii U had 4GB of RAM too, turns out it's only 2. So forget what I said, I think that JaxonH's explanation is more likely, Ninty went with 2GB originally, but Capcom suggested doubling it to 4.
@Octane
Idk, as a PS VR owner I've seen the magic of what developers can do to eliminate screen door effect, and I've got a feeling that Nintendo will be better at something like that then anyone else... they're programming wizards.
Even if it did have a little more screen door effect than PSVR, I still think it could be passable. But, who knows. Guess time will tell

....Great now my dreams gonna start tormenting me about the Switch, even though I'm not even that excited/hyped for it. Of course this happens when I decide to not buy it until May/June. (maybe April, lol)

Keep it PG-13-ish.
If a company feels the need to do that, its not a good UI. Thankfully the single shot of it we got from them shows everything.
Battery, time, users, games, controller configuration, button prompts with circles for news, eshop, album, controllers, system settings and power, all with clear symbols and space on one screen with no scrolling up or down.
I guess people expect a line of games, info on the games, streams, images, users below each, a news tab in that same row of games along with a store and media services. Then having menus upon menus above that.
Industry leader does not mean good. Fast yes, clean and simple hell no.

Got a friend Kyanos from the Chicago area going to that event. It's happening right now, so you're probably there. Friend's been filling our LINE chat with pics for the last hour... living the dream.

Then don't replace 3DS... replace Wii U! New Nintendo consoles only come around every 5 years or so. Make those moments magical!
