I've been looking at the trailers in the eshop of the up and coming games, and the current limited released selection. Is anyone else having issues with a general jumpiness of the videos? like it has to keep buffering... Almost like it has a bad internet connection. I've got a relatively fast connection, and am right next to my wii U which never had an issue playing any videos include youtube stuff. Makes watching the trailers almost useless. Just curious.
A few play okay, but stuff like the Mario Karts trailer are all but useless stopping and buffering ever 5 seconds or so.
Yeah, my 3DS, PS4 and Wii U have great signal strength, but my Switch which is next to the PS4 and Wii U gets very weak signal strength, I can't even access eshop most of the time as it keeps timing out, yet I put on my Wii U and the eshop loads up fine. I've tried both 2.4ghz and 5ghz wireless frequencies, doesn't make a difference.
Hope it's either a firmware bug with wireless, or we'll need to buy a HORI lan adapter or move the router closer to the Switch. :/
This could point to a hardware issue. Have you tried to do the connection test under Internet settings?
I had a faulty Switch, which later crashed in a boot loop after playing Zelda, but before that happened I already experienced serious issues with WiFi.
I kept losing my WiFi connection and half the time when doing a connection test it failed and when it succeeded I only managed to get like 1-2 mbit download speeds, while my internet connection is 100Mbit!
With my second "good" Switch, WiFi connection is much better overall and my connection tests are consistent and get average 60-80 Mbit download speeds. Same for my son's Switch.
So it might be checking out. The Switch is using a Broadcom chipset and those are terrible with high failure rate ( see laptops and why they use modular units now to easily replace them ).
The wifi signal is very weak on the Switch compared to our other devices. I really hope this can be patched, i think it will be a problem once we get more online games like Mario Kart.
Will try a connection test later on. Good point Guovssohas, MK8 which I'm looking forward to and Splatoon 2 and any online multiplayer game will be a big problem since this problem seems so widespread, does this mean alot of players you compete against will be lagging?
Did several wireless connection tests on all 3 consoles and they kept getting around the same results.
PS4 download speed = 13.7 Mbps, upload speed = 1.6 Mbps
PS Vita download speed = 12.2 Mbps, upload speed = 1.6 Mbps
Switch DOCKED download speed = 8.1 Mbps, upload speed = 1.2 Mbps
My PC wired to the router gets 33.80 Mbps download and upload is 1.90 Mbps.
So my Switch barely holds 1 MB/s for net usage and downloads but it likes to fail alot, the connection test results are all over the place often being low and failing, so everything times out and doesn't load. My PS4 wireless connection rarely fails and happily auto downloads game updates pretty fast and browsing the PS Store is nice and fast with quick video play, the PS4 usually holds around 1.5 MB/s to 2 MB/s. My PC downloads between 4 MB/s to 5 MB/s wired to the router.
I get this and trust me none of your things are faulty. Ever since i had the switch, when watching game trailers ONLY it constantly buffers. Since day 1 purchase i have yet to watch a trailer because of severe buffering. This is a massive widespread problem as i have 6 friends with a switch and this happens to EVERYONE of them. So your not alone, id be surprised to see anyone say otherwise as its the switch itself. Maybe an update will fix this?
no problems here.
I have my switch using the 5ghz frequency as well as my laptop too. I have everything else on 2.4 ghz or direct Ethernet cable. I also use a wifi analyzer to see what channels all the other close access points(neighboring routers) are using so we don't stomp on each other's wifi. If you have a baby monitor, wireless phone or microwave nearby it can interfere with your devices that are using 2.4 ghz.
@mumcs01
Since the Switch release, I'll occasionally come across eshop trailers that won't stream. It's baffling. Even with a new FIOS router, here in the US, using 5G or not (i can use either).
