At least when it comes to the visuals, it is well made censorship (never thought I would ever say this...)
To make an example: There is an outfit that they have just replaced by an entriely different outfit. And I am not talking about something cheaply made. No, in this case one might even prefer our version of the game.
I would still always prefer the game uncensored of course, but at the very least they made an effort.
I don't normally like the censorship discussions, since at least more often than not, they don't do anything to change the game in any particularly meaningful way. I mean, y'all bought and loved Paper Mario:TTYD (myself included), and technically that took out the writing that made a character trans, don't think seeing slightly less boobs is of comparable concern. shrugs
THAT BEING SAID, one of the chapters in this game was completely baffling because of the changes. You can't take out a character dealing with wearing revealing outfits and have it be about how "oh no she's scared of having photos taken of her" after she was filmed in front of a large audience and totally fine with it! Like I have to believe Nintendo is just scared the ESRB will give one of their games an M rating, for whatever reason. Which to be fair, it shouldn't be based on that, but it probably would have.
Game's cool otherwise though. Like I had problems with it, very much felt like I was encouraged to go back and forth between the dungeons and normal Japan way too often for it to be reasonable, but it was a very enjoyable JRPG.
Luckily the Japanese release supports English (I just checked on the eShop), so unless all Switch versions are based on the western revision or the only way to play in English is by switching versions in game, there should be a way out of the censorship this time.

I'm very happy to see this finally coming to Switch. I got the original Wii U release of Tokyo Mirage Sessions for Christmas last year, and just loved this game a lot. The story, the characters, their side stories, and the battle system was really. I was ecstatic as soon as I saw the picture of Itsuki, Tsubasa, and the rest appear.
I want more people to enjoy this game, and it makes me happy knowing it's going to reach a larger audience. This is one Wii U port I want too, so I'm definitely considering getting this day one or close after release.

I never played this game on Wii U and don't know much about it so I was wondering, what was the Gamepad usage like in the original version? People on the first page of this thread were saying it was used too heavily to be able to port the game, so it sounds like they'll have to have made some substantial changes to get the game to work without the Gamepad?
@Dogorilla@Tsurii In the reveal, they show Itsuki running through Shibuya and the screen shows + button mapped as "topic." Topic was the phone in the game, so looks like they seem to have got it to work without the touch screen.

@Sunsy Ah ok, sounds like it won't make much of a difference not having the Gamepad then.
I've played a few Fire Emblem games but I know very little about Shin Megami Tensei. Would TMS's plot still make sense to me without any prior SMT knowledge?
@Dogorilla TMS has a LOT more FE stuff in it than SMT stuff. Apart from some background references and the battle system being very slightly inspired by SMT's Press Turn combat system, there are almost no similarities.
Even if you never played FE, though, you'd be fine. It's an original property. Everything you need to know about the game is contained in the game itself.
I saw a video on YouTube (I think the channel was called "Jay RPG", it was just a recommended video for me) they noticed that while one scene in the trailer was censored (even in the Japanese Direct), there's another screenshot of another scene that's not censored.
So either you'll be able to switch between regional differences, or it'll be sort of a hybrid with some things censored and other things uncensored (no matter which region you buy the game from).

@jump : I would assume so given its niche appeal. It seems kind of redundant including a dub for a game so heavily centred around J-Pop. It would be nice if they did for those interested, but I think they would have announced it in the direct if they were going to include an English dub as that may have been a tipping point for some potential buyers.
