Topic: The Switch OLED is a piece of garbage!!!

I am beyond mother freaking fed up with the complete garbage Switch OLED. I have spent over $700 USD on two different switch OLEDs and both have as of today broken down within 6 months of purchase (if you are planning on replying with 'if it is less than a year old just send it back to Nintendo for a warranty repair/replacement' don't waste your breath).

My first switch broke down about 6 months ago by it not only losing the ability to recognize joycons when attached to the system but it also started to put burn marks around the right joycons release button (located at the top back of joycons just under the R and ZR buttons.

So I go and buy a new OLED about 5 months ago and for a while it worked fine (it also started to put a burn mark on the right joycon release button, but thankfully it continued to recognize joycons) that is until tonight. I get off of work and try to unwind by playing some fall guys or apex legends (both require internet connection) I power on my OLED and I notice that it didn't automatically connect to my wifi signal. I say meh and I go to internet settings and try to connect manually to internet and before I can I get error code 2110-1118 "Wireless communication is currently unavailable due to an error".

The OLED worked perfectly fine last night at 3am est when I powered it off and today at 9pm est it doesn't. WTF?

I love Nintendo, I love the games, I have spent in the past around 2 years over $2000 USD on software, dlc, joycons. Why should I continue to invest in a companies platform when they cannot seem to make a system that won't Last for longer than 6 months without it needing a warranty repair?

And before you say that I should send it in to Nintendo I cannot. I am homeless so I have no address for Nintendo to return it to me after it is repaired.

I am really really at the end of my rope here and I am heartbroken so much.

😬damn.. that sucks. Any friends/family/acquaintances address' you can use? Maybe your place of employment(if applicable) can accommodate. In the meanwhile, does using another set of joycons work? Maybe the pro controller?

I'm sorry you are having so much trouble with your Switch OLED. That sucks! I have an OLED bought the week of release and my friend has one as well and we haven't had any issues whatsoever. I am not sure how often my friend uses hers but I use mine every day for multiple hours at a time and haven't run into any issues so I can't complain. Sorry again that you are having issues...I hope someone is able to give you suggestions to get your issues resolved.

A minor update, I was able to get my first OLED powered up enough to power it on and after fighting with it to get joycons to connect and stay connected and after making a dummy account to bypass setup I tried to connect to the internet and it was able to.

Keep in mind that this is the first OLED not the replacement one that stopped connecting to internet tonight.

So for whatever reason my second OLED cannot connect to internet anymore. Hopefully it's a bug and will self fix soon.

@PhhhCough the current crisis isn't the joycon issue, it is the OLED suddenly not being able to connect to the internet, actually I'd prefer it to be joycon issue at least I could kinda play Apex in tabletop mode or something.

You mention burn marks around the release button of the joycon. Do you have any pictures of this

thugpipe

AppleroseGrace

@thugpipe I have many pictures of it, however I am unsure how I would share, show, or point to where a person could view them. I assume Nintendo life has some sort of rule against posting links to outside websites or image sharing sites.

@thugpipe have you heard of an OLED or other model of switch (standard, lite, or OLED) causing burn marks? I have shown the joycons that are burnt to a couple electronics people and they couldn't figure out the cause due to them not knowing how switch is built or made or function and stuff.

@AppleroseGrace
I tried googling your problem but came up empty. You seem the only one to have suffered this problem of burnt Joycons, not once but twice, which seems a little suspicious. Forgive me for asking, but you're not laying around your Switch in direct sunlight, are you? Because that's bad for any electronics.
Likewise, while charging your Switch, be sure to keep it in a ventilated area so the heat that generates while charging can dissipate.

Sharing images on these forums is allowed but you'll have to upload them to another website first, like Twitter or imagestock. Once you've done that, copy the direct link ending in .jpg and paste them between the following brackets [ img]link[/img ] without spaces.

Edit: lastly, about the wifi not working, you might want to try the following link:

@AppleroseGrace yeah, I've disassembled several joycon and apart from a major battery failure I can't imagine what would cause external burning in that specific area. As @seaboyluca points out, i haven't heard of a similar malfunction and this being the second time, have you ruled out an external cause for the damage. A picture might help

thugpipe

AppleroseGrace

@seaboyluca if I did it right and if I didn't violate Nintendo life tos getting banned and you can see the two right joycon. The white joycon was from first switch, the green joycon is from second current switch OLED

It's just weird that two right joycons from two different OLEDs get the same issue. The only cause I can possibly think of being an electronics layman (someone who knows nothing to very little about a subject) is that I play the switch exclusively in handheld mode (being homeless I didn't have access to a TV so no dicked mode and table top mode is difficult due to my poor eyesight) and while playing it in handheld mode I have it plugged into the provided Nintendo ac adaptor.

Do other electronics tend to heat up or burn in your house?

Do you perhaps use a radiator or other heating surface around your gaming area?

You might not like the notion, but with this being such a rare and specific thing, its probably something in the environment, power surges, or user error.

@AppleroseGrace then where do you play and plug the console? The same questions apply home or not.

If you’re plugging the console to an improper outlet, and its been bad enough to cause actual damage to two systems, them you might be putting yourself in serious danger by playing with the console plugged in.

@Eel yes that is possible, I have a couple spots where I can plug it in to charge it while playing it. They appear to be proper US outlets two vertical lines above a circle (grounded) I also plug it in to charge when I am working at McDonald's

You may be correct in the possible danger thing. In the past few weeks while playing it while charging I could swear my finger tips on left hand were getting a cross between hot and quasi my brain says shocked but it didn't like feel as if I'm getting shocked more like currant passing through the switch and into my finger tips that come in contact with the back of switch
