Which of the versions of Aladdin was supposed to be good? And is this it?

I had them both on the Genesis back in the day. I can't imagine this type of game has aged well though!?

Nice that they put the Gameboy versions on there, though kinda wish they went even further to make it like the ultimate Lion King and SEGA Aladdin collection. Lion King NES, Master System, Game Gear, etc.

When these games first came out, and for years afterward, I heard nothing but praise for the Genesis version. Seems like lately, however, the SNES one is getting critically re-evaluated. I personally loved the SNES game as a kid, it's not contest for me. The Genesis game is very stylish, but when it comes to gameplay and level design, SNES is just so much tighter and thoughtful.

I didn't enjoy Aladdin on the Megadrive at all, hated it to be honest. @StuTwo comment on the previous page matches my own thoughts perfectly. I had bought right into the hype around the game and had been anticipating its release for what felt like ages and then it finally arrived and within no time of playing it, my disappointment was huge. If I remember correctly,I had made my mind up about it by the time I reached the 2nd level, I hated it and didn't play for much longer before returning and exchanging it for something else. I've never understood why all these years later it's regarded as a Megadrive classic, same goes for Earthworm Jim. A few years ago I gave it another go on an emulator to see if my younger self had been wrong to dismiss it so spectacularly, but nope my thoughts of it were exactly the same. A repetitive, frustrating experience that was just no fun to play.

I played Lion King a lot as a kid. It was was the Windows version and I'm not sure if there were any notable differences compared to the other versions. I knew the level skip cheat code so I used to skip the hardest levels but I'm pretty sure I was able to beat the game without them too.

As for Aladdin, I want to say I had a demo of it on my PC but I'm honestly not sure. I remember the first stage so I must have played it at some point. I have the SNES version of both it and The Lion King nowadays but I haven't played it much.

I wish this package also included The Jungle Book since that is the game I must have played the most out of Virgin's Disney games. That one I know I've beaten multiple times. I got the SNES version of it alongside the other Disney SNES games few years ago but that version is completely different from the version I had. The PC version seems to be the same as the Genesis/Mega Drive version.

I think I'll skip this remaster for now and reconsider it later if/when the price drops. I would've bought it if it had Jungle Book too while keeping the same price.

It's its, not it's.

The only reason I'm making this thread, is because I grew up with these games, even though I never actually owned them. The only version I owned was the GameGear's The Lion King. I'm pretty certain the SNES games I just rented or played on someone else's system. I never owned a Genesis so I don't know much about those versions.

That said, I was wondering if the GameGear version was based on the Genesis or did it also do its own thing?

Anyways yeah, the memories...I kinda wanna grab this just because I grew up with these games. lol
I wonder if they'll update this to include more versions or something, that would be neat.

Are these remasters though or ROMs in high definition?

Best Buy doesn't ship overseas so that makes it difficult... No news of the sets coming to Europe or anywhere else?

@BlueOcean : From everything that I seen so far, these are just ROMs (with a modified "Director's Cut" version that fixes bugs from the original releases). On the plus side, it seems that multiple ROMs will be included in the package, including the Game Boy versions. I remember there being a retail package on PC which also included The Jungle Book back in the day. It's a pity that that wasn't included as part of this (overpriced) package.

I remember loving the Snes Aladdin, still have the cart in fact! Never played it on Genesis. Lion King however was quickly ruined for me right at about the Giraffe stage with the monkeys. Never could get past that damn level. Besides that the hit detection seemed way off. Only good thing was the graphics which were gorgeous. Too bad the rest was so lousy.

@Silly_G Yeah, this release is underwhelming.
