The only reason I'm making this thread, is because I grew up with these games, even though I never actually owned them. The only version I owned was the GameGear's The Lion King. I'm pretty certain the SNES games I just rented or played on someone else's system. I never owned a Genesis so I don't know much about those versions.
That said, I was wondering if the GameGear version was based on the Genesis or did it also do its own thing?
Anyways yeah, the memories...I kinda wanna grab this just because I grew up with these games. lol
I wonder if they'll update this to include more versions or something, that would be neat.

I'm excited for this. I never played the original and from what I've heard, Aladdin is supposedly one of the best 16-bit games of the generation, definitely looking forward to this one!
I'm pretty excited about this myself. It doesn't look to be a "remaster" though based on trailer..looks more like a port. Or am i wrong? Either way, I am grabbing these at some point but I can't at launch because LM3 and all the other October/ November releases
From what I can tell, it's just an HD port with extra features and stuff. I...think that's what a remaster is? I know a remaster and a remake are completely different from each other, so...

I never played The Lion King. However, I remember enjoying Aladdin on the Genesis. Never could get past the flying carpet lava level though. Just a solid action/platformer that used the license well.

I mean, a remaster does update the visuals a bit....a remake is basically redoing the visuals from scratch or something. Like the recent Mario and Luigi remakes on 3DS, since their graphics were redone completely to match Dream Team's visuals.

Had Genesis Aladdin and Snes Lion King. The penny arcade comic where they take an axe to the controller over Aladdin is accurate. Still it was a gorgeous game and had a pretty nifty soundtrack. I expect ill still be using the cheat code though to get through.

Yeeaaah, I think the games were a pain sometimes, even watched GameXplain's SNES Lion King stream, some of it anyways, lol.
I don't think I ever beaten any of them back then, pretty sure I can handle it now obviously. For SNES Aladdin I think I did stop at the Magic Carpet lava level, as for GameGear's Lion King, I can't remember. Still dunno if that's based on Genesis's game or not, only thing I do remember is that one level from SNES version.
...You know what I'm talking about....that one level...

Mega Drive Aladdin was hugely hyped at the time. It was gorgeously animated - they had some of the actual Disney animators working on it. It looks great and it's interesting as an earlier piece of work that would lead to Earthworm Jim...
...but it's not a good game (and neither was Earthworm Jim really - though I'd say it's better than Aladdin). Honestly it wasn't particularly great at the time - so far as I can remember the levels were a dense confusing mess. It's a whole category of 2D platformers that were basically a dead end in game design evolution - you prod and poke everything looking for "secrets" and paths (that are as mandatory for progression as they are arbitrary).
I can't imagine it's aged well at all and I suspect that if you didn't grow up with it (and might not have played games that are designed in quite that way) you might be a bit surprised - serious platform games haven't really been designed like that for a long time.
The SNES Aladdin was a really fun game from Capcom (but not as pretty graphically). I'm not sure I'd rush out to play it again but I distinctly remember enjoying it far more at the time.
@StuTwo You captured my thoughts exactly, dude. The animations were gorgeous, but the level design was a mess. Everything felt sort of sloppy and imprecise to me. SNES, on the other hand, is a really tight, solid platformer. The sprites and original music are charming in their own, but they lost the ad war to the Genesis version when they were first released. Which is a shame, since I think it's the far superior game and I played it a ton as a kid.
All I remember is that I sucked at the NES version of Alladin, although I easily beat the SNES version in two afternoons (which is really rare for me, I haven't beaten that many platformers without cheats back in the days ). But I reckon the SNES game is not included because Capcom? Is that situation comparable to that with the Ducktales games?

...There was a NES version?
Anyways, like I said it was already confirmed that this remaster will include SNES, Genesis, and GameBoy versions.
EDIT: ...Just saw Gamexplain's video...dammit. -.-
I'm actually excited for this as well. I played the PC version of Lion King awhile back because I picked it up on GOG (it was removed recently, I'm guessing this game is the reason why), and I remember playing Aladdin on Super NES. I loved that version of Aladdin, however, I'm looking forward to finally trying the other version of Aladdin. Haven't had the chance to play it.
I've seen the debate between people about which Aladdin is better, but I'll play for myself and form my own opinion. There could be the chance I like both games after playing them.

I had Aladdin on the Mega Drive way back (the early 90's). One of the best games I owned as a kid. The Lion King I've only played on SNES, thinks it's OK. Cool that they're getting re-released.
I had The Lion King on the SNES. I wasn't even aware that there was an Aladdin game. Either way, I won't be picking this up. I just don't remember having too much fun with The Lion King. lol
