I'm sorry, did you all miss the incredibly obvious racist character image I posted as being "in the same vein" as Ghirahim?
His character is supposed to be 'weird' and effeminate (with the implication that he's gay) and make the played dislike him as a result. Seems pretty bad to me.
@Haru17: Yeah... though that kind of flamboyance is a stereo-type that I actually don't see in most homosexual people I know. But you're right, it's still wrong.
He's not technically homophobic himself, he just appeals to those that are by representing the antagonist. That's why I didn't understand you the second time

he represents the flashy gays, which are a lot more prominent in more metro areas like Manhattan or new york
and its not meant to be anti gay, its meant as an anti-version to the goddess sword. fi is uptight and robotic, emotionless. so her opposite has to be flamboyant to set the separation between light and dark, fi and girshgigmmmm are polar opposites

Yeah, I meant the writing is. Synecdoche n' such.
Straight villains are set up to fail from a philosophical standpoint. (Straight as in plain, not as in hetero.)

I mean, maybe, but they're still associating sexuality with evil. Which doesn't usually come from the most tolerant standpoint.
Well, they probably failed at that, since most people who played the game liked him.
Liking a villain doesn't mean agreeing with them. Also Zelda gets hella fan art (regardless of how #$^% the subject is).
Anyway, was I supposed to hate the character in that picture of yours, too?
I mean, yes; he's totes a murder. He's a bad person, but his twistyness and theatrics are more than enough to carry one through the plot without it becoming overly depressing IMO.
Well, it's not like he is the only flamboyant "male" (technically, neither fi or girahim have genders) character in the series. Out of all the ones I can remember, only him and yuga have been villains.
The only recurrent one (Tingle) is even specified to be heterosexual (he had a game all about it). Actually... I think he's the only recurrent male character that has shown interest in women.

To be fair in terms of recurring male characters we only have Link, Ganondorf, Tingle, and Beetle.
And Yuga can hardly be called a character compared to Ghirahim. They actually put effort into Ghirahim.
when a threads tone is dictated by a 14 year old meme lover you know it's destined for all-time greatness
anyway, the latest gamexplain video - that got mentioned here, right?? - where they stretch all possibilities and go into great speculation is pretty cool and finally got me hyped about something, because i felt there was something in half the things they said. i love the idea of living and exploring in the land, potentially setting up camp, hunting for food. the idea of a new weapons system similar to link between worlds where perhaps you borrow heavy weapons for certain occasions and have your necessary tools with you all the time. i have some hope this can be a great modern zelda.
I can't tell if you're actually this out-of-touch or you're deliberately being offensive.
Considering that's like the second google image search result for "racist black stereotype" I'm gonna go with 'sarcastic for rhetorical effect.'
It's insensitive, and surprising coming from you. To even think to compare Ghirahim to second wave KKK era propaganda is brazenly offensive.
You may as well have dropped the N-bomb.
i havent seen the cartoon, but going off the picture.... its a black guy eating chicken. now forgive me if im wrong, but black people are known for liking chicken and grape flavored drinks. stereotypical yes, but to people who havent seen the propaganda before, not necessarily racist.
