It’s extremely annoying to see retailers marking up the price like that. The Argos one is still available so I guess most others feel the same way (or just haven’t seen it yet).

Yeah, I’ve given up on the CE over in the States. It’s way too hard to obtain, and for the price, I just don’t think it’s worth the trouble for me unfortunately. It’s nearly double the price of the game itself and I don’t really think I’m willing to pay that. So I’ll just take my normal preorder stress-free.

The CE is overpriced for what it is honestly. The contents are extremely lame compared to the BotW CE, and somehow the Gamestop Pre-order bonus is actually better than the contents of the CE. With the CE, you get an art book that already leaked and will most likely be outclassed by a standalone art book for the entire game, a set of pins, a poster, a very bland looking box, and a steelbook. The Gamestop Pre-Order nets you a wooden plank that has actual carvings in it, instead of just a poster.

I could've typed most of this post; this hits VERY close to my sentiments. I originally was gonna try for the CE. However, the rarity, price, plus stepping back to truly analyze what was on offer, made me realize I can do without. Outside of the art book - which has already leaked - I don't really need or want the rest of that stuff collecting dust. At least the GameStop preorder bonus is something outside of the norm. Still need to do that in fact; I'll likely put in an order early next month.

I managed to get a hold of the BotW Special Edition (I intentionally passed on the Master Edition; I didn't feel the extra $30 just for a plastic Master Sword was worth it) and have honestly gotten more use out of its goodies than I ever would with the less unique offerings of the TotK CE. Especially the carrying case and CD.

Currently playing: Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past (3DS), Super Mario Advance 4 (Wii U VC)

I've never ordered a collectors edition before, the standard usually suits me fine, and it's nice to have a preorder locked down ahead of time, Tears of the Kingdom is one of the few that I have pre-ordered...

But will there still be paid DLC for TOTK?

BOTW was $59.99 USD + $19.99 for DLC = $79.98.

If TOTK's dlc is included with the $69.99 price, TOTK could end up being the better deal than BOTW.

@WoomyNNYes Sadly, the DLC isn't going to be included with the 70 dollar price tag. They'll most likely charge for it, resulting in a game that's around 100-120 dollars when all is said and done.

While the price of the game is a justifiable grumble, it is definitely reduced in light of pre-order offers, sales, and the second-hand market.
It is most certainly reduced when you combine a price reduction with the number of backlogs that are mentioned in this site.

As for the CE, a load of plastic tat to clutter up your house, along with an art book which will be released separately (or something like it), which will become available at a reasonable price.

Big news. Eiji Aonuma has turned 60. Also…

…it seems he’s basing his current look on that of Count Shimpei Gotō, Japanese cabinet minister during the Taishō period and esteemed medical doctor.

What does this tell us about Tears of the Kingdom and the future trajectory of the series?

Has Aonuma actually been testing out some of the time manipulation mechanics teased for the game by travelling back 100+ years into the past to renew the Tokyo sewage system and drastically improve public hygiene as a result? Or did he first do that for Ocarina of Time and nobody noticed?

So many spicy theories!

Just preordered my collector's edition a couple days ago. I didn't think BOTW was all that amazing to be honest, but this one really has my hopes up. It's been a while since I've been this hyped for a video game. Last time I can recall myself feeling this excited was back when I preordered Halo 2 when I was just a kid.

If TOTK get's dlc, then BOTW's dlc will have gotten it's own dlc. If TOTK & it's dlc are successful, I worry the zelda series will become an infinite fractal pattern of dlc spawning dlc and create a black hole.

So is this turning into Legend of Zelda: DIY SOS?
Are Nick Knowles and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen going to take over from Sidon and Bolson?

I've come to peace with the $70 bump mostly. When you put in old video game prices (primarily cartridges) into inflation calculators it kind of makes me feels spoikrd. But there's something about a mid-gen bump for TotK that feels... kind of spiteful? Kyle Bosman did a great video about this recently.

I wasn't even a huge fan of BotW and with the exception of exploration I felt it was a step in many wrong directions. That said I will be playing TotK on day one because I'm a stupid Ninty whale who doesn't want to miss out on the gaming zeitgeist.

I think as we have more abundance of choices there's some comfort to be found in Gaming Events. Like Elden Ring felt like I was playing my little part in a larger global theater. I'm still way more hyped for Snufkin and Rune Factory 3S and Eiuyuden Chronicle than TotK but there's really nothing like that collective AAA funk.

I was more thinking A Team where every episode they fixed up the van.

If we are looking to the BBC reality shows for inspiration then I want Charlie Dimmock in the game!
