Topic: The fairness of the reviews - Tropico 6

I have to say, that I found most of the switch reviews of Tropico 6 unfair in their judgements. Must of them talk about; poor graphics and slacking. To be fair to the reviews - My experience is based at the patched game.

I agree that such element should be commented - but should that automatically be reflected in the score, if their influence in the gameplay is minimal? I don't think so. I adore the gameplay - even though I think it is a little to early to score the game. Even though the issues stated in the reviews stil is noteable - I found them been of no reel influence - What so ever - in my involvement and enjoyment of the game. It is tiny little details both in number and scope.

I do agree, that since the nintendo version is more expensive than other version, the dlc's should be witch the psycially release.

Hopefully the score of the review won't let players new to City-building games turn away from trying it, if the are a little curious. Maybe the complexety should let younger players look elsewere, but otherwise I say. DON'T LET THE SCORE HOLD YOU AWAY IF YOU ARE TEMTED BY THE REVIEW TEXT.

I've bought it but not tried it yet, fwiw.

Negatively-impacted review scores is the risk you run by releasing a game before it is ready. I want every game to do well, but I want every game to be finished before the carts are published.

I'm interested, but not enough to drop $50. When a physical copy drops to $20-$25 then I'll grab a copy. Cities Skylines eventually got that low, I imagine Tropico 6 will follow suit. Although city builders aren't my favorite genre I enjoy a good simulation game every now and then.

@Magician I'm in the same boat as you, this is something to get once I see it in a sale.

Oh yeah, I wouldn't have paid full price, but Amazon UK were doing it for something under £20 recently, so I thought why not?

@Gimli Of course issues with the presentation should be reflected in the score. The way the game looks is a huge part of the experience.

That doesn't mean you automatically need to ignore lower-scoring games because they don't look great visually.

To a certaint point I'm accepting your point - even though games like 'Undertale' and otters have got an incredible score - with graphics that is very poor (in pictures).

But with Tropico the judgement of the graphics was done by comparisson with other stations/pc. I don't think that has a point, if the graphics hold up to other switch games. I wounder how the graphics would be Judged if the switch version was the first. SwitchUp gave it 9 out of 20 (I'm mention them because they score the graphics seperately) and I simple can't se, the graphics in Tropico is under half of the machines capacity. In fact the graphics is quite good. The animation is pehaps a little basic - but come on - in this sort of game the animation is unimportant for the gameplay.

@gcunit
I must agree that on the Switch/Nintendo platform a psycially release should be as complete as possible. (The limeted memory is a key issue bying a psycially version). But then stop making comparsion with the Technology on other platform in the argument for the score.

Undertale is going for a very specific look, which it nails.

It's not about technical prowess but aesthetics, function, meaning, etc. In some games, certain issues (resolution, frame rate) can detract from the intended effect. But that's a different discussion from certain videogames adopting a "retro" visual style.

I mean, I think Downwell is an absolutely beautiful game. But no, it's not technically impressive. It's just on-point art design.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with you, though, just pointing out how and why the graphics in different games are analyzed in different ways.

I'm completly in line with your view. Thats why i think the graphics souldn't be reflected in the score unless the graphics hampered the gameplay or enjoyment. Or dont "work" with you (Camera-angels etc.).

@Gimli Otters?

Art-style and performance aren't the same thing at all. The review mentions a framerate that frequently drops below 30fps, and fuzzy visuals due to a low-ish resolution on the system. That doesn't need to bother you, but it should be reflected in the score. Poor performance can and often does hinder one's enjoyment of a game.

Don't let the score bother you. If you're enjoying it, that's all that matters. Your enjoyment is perfectly valid.
