This has happened twice now: I out the switch to sleep and when I wake it up, the console says to close a game before removing it. The game is still in the system, but the system can't detect it, I have to eject and put it back in. Is my switch dying?

Just add my voice here, I'm getting this too.
Tend to keep a game card in for weeks if not months so I doubt the card reader has been damaged through constant game swapping.
Powering the Switch off and on again fixes it without needing to touch the card.

I started getting this after a recent system update, First time I let the system update in almost a year.
I relented and let it update and this started happening.
Switch stays docked and the cart installed was not changed in weeks.

Has anyone talked to Nintendo support about this issue? I'm curious what they say. (Or maybe I've forgotten what they say about the issue?)

My launch Switch has given me this error about twice a week now. Getting kind of frustrating. I really should call support.
