Topic: Switch no shut down option

Hello all,
I have realised recently that the option to actually shut down the switch appears to have gone (or moved?). Just going to put it away for a while and couldn't see how to shut down!
I used to hold the power button (or home button) then go 'power options' then shut down.
Anyone help with this? Seems a shame to just leave it in a draw on sleep (so on) and not shut down.
Thanks all!

Thanks for checking, what version are you on and how are you getting to the shut down option?

The usual process of holding the power button and selecting “turn off” from the “power options” menu.

You mentioned using the home button as an alternative, but I don’t think the option to turn off the console has ever been on that particular menu.

@mrjelly You have to do a long press of the Switch power button on the console. You'll get a prompt that says Sleep Mode and Power Options. Select Power Options for Shutdown or Restart. That's the only way to shut down, or restart the console, even while docked.

The home button on controllers will only offer Sleep mode. (I'm kind of annoyed by this too.)

It's not a matter of which OS update you have. It's been like this for years, if not since launch. Maybe in the first year of the Switch you could do it form a controller while docked?, but my memory is too fuzzy to say with certainty. I would love the option to shut down the console via the controller's home button.

Ah yes absolutely right, it was the controller/system difference!

Thanks all
