Topic: Switch lite joystick replaced, still doesn't work

Searching for this scenario didn't reveal this exact issue.

My son has a Switch lite, latest firmware etc... I have replaced many a component inside, including the left thumb stick, daughterboard, ribbon cables and power/volume switch.

Two months ago, I replaced the left thumb stick for the second time. Within two weeks, it would not register left or right inputs but up and down worked fine. I finally bought the hall effect sticks so I would hopefully be done replacing them for a while. After installing, the left stick will still not register left or right. Swapped again and it's not the sensor. That sensor worked on the right side as did the other three hall sensors I bought.

I replaced the daughterboard because I snapped off a zif lock tab last year.

Any insight as to if this is yet another daughterboard issue or is this switch just finally trashed? He is a boy and has dropped it multiple times.

TIA

@kdj67f You didn't mention if you calibrated the stick. Did you calibrate the stick? In system settings, under controllers & sensors, there's a recalibrate stick option. Disregard, if you've done it already.

Otherwise, I know you have a Lite, but sometimes inexplicable joycon issues can arise if you never shut down or reboot the switch. I'm assuming you've shut it down to work on it, but I thought I'd mention it. Sometimes, when people (often kids) only use sleep mode every day, and never shut down/reboot, some weird bugs can start occurring. And rebooting has solved those cases.

This is all I can think of.

Yes, I did reboot, made sure firmware was up to date and I can't calibrate that stick because I can't move left or right 🤣

Thanks for the reply, I may end up just replacing all the ribbon cables and daughterboard again. If I ever figure it out, I will update the thread.

For anyone searching this, I did disassemble and replace the daughterboard and ribbon cable again and the controls now work fine.

The hall effect thumbsticks are smooth and were almost perfect in calibration from the box.

I bought a cheap board and cable from Amazon to test this and it works flawlessly.
