@IceClimbers Banjo is a bit of a unique case though, because he's almost a Nintendo character.

Don't get me wrong, Doom was the first game I ever played, so I have a huge soft spot for it. But I just don't think Nintendo cares very much about acknowledging either the PC gaming or western gaming world. Not out of malice, I just don't really think they fully understand the western perspective of gaming history. If Nintendo wanted to pay homage to western gaming, I think Rayman, Crash, or Steve from Minecraft are far more likely picks. I think those characters are a lot more visible to Nintendo in regards to their recognizability. I will give you the fair point that if any western FPS character gets in, it would be Doom guy though, so I'll upgrade him to a C

Also as an aside, I think the Terry video pretty much rules out Soul Calibur and Tekken characters as the final Challenger pack spot. Sakurai was very focused on this being a celebration of fighting game characters, so if they had a Tekken or Soul Calibur character to reveal with the Terry video, they absolutely would have. So Lloyd Irving and Chosen Undead are pretty much the only other Bamco characters that have a shot at the last spot. Or maybe all the "good boys and girls" would ask Sakurai to put Ivy in.

@DarkSim01 Oh I agree on Jeanne not being necessary since Bayo has such a good costume. I just think among 3rd party echoes she'd have the among the least barriers to entry. Honestly, if Rodin wasn't already a wonderful AT (and probably too different in body shape), I'd suggest him instead, but that's out. And Rosa isn't well known enough for DLC I'd think? Past!Balder is possible I guess, but that'd be weird.

Honestly, I'd think Echo DLC would likely be stuff like Dixie Kong, Black Shadow, Dry Bowser, etc. Characters who are vastly asked for but will never happen on their own. Or someone like Gooigi who's timely and popular. Which, save Shadow, most of the 3rd Party possibilities aren't.

@iKhan I'll be honest, as much as I love Soul Calibur, Ivy's costumes have always been squick territory for me. I'd rather not see her in for that reason alone.

If Mai can't get in as even a cameo or spirit, I think that pretty much rules out Ivy, Kasumi, Ayane, Morrigan, & probably Taki in any capacity as well, in terms of popular female fighting game characters.

Chun-Li probably has the best chance in that regard, and even that's dependent on whether or not Capcom gets a 4th fighter (and even then, if they'd want it to be a 3rd SF rep).

@RR529 Hm? What about Nina Williams, or even Anna? Taki's fine, she wears more in most of her outfits than Bayonetta, even if it's hilariously unrealistic in how skintight it is (spandex doesn't work that way peeps). Cassandra should be fine as an SC pick too.

I mean, I think part of it is Sakurai is less willing to fight rating boards all over the world for a cameo than a full character too. While Morrigan would need some work, I think he'd find a way to pull it off if that's who he wanted in.

Also, I looked up Ayane and she's got plenty of acceptable outfits? I can't see that one being stopped so easily, while Kasumi has an outfit variation from Dead Or Alive 5 Infinite that looks perfect for Smash.

@iKhan If Ultimate specifically is a celebration of gaming history in its entirety, then this would literally be the opportune moment to get a rep for Western developers that don't already commonly associate with Nintendo into the game

Not only that but DOOM is also a perfect representative for the FPS genre and even a part of PC gaming considering it was the first time PC gaming really hit mainstream appeal back in the early 1990s

It would also be excellent press for Eternal in a similar fashion to Hero's inclusion being essentially a promotion for the then-forthcoming release of DQ XI S on Switch

Literally the only other rep who could potentially effectively encapsulate the appeal of western gaming culture other than DOOM Marine from a different genre would probably be the Dragonborn considering The Elder Scrolls' iconography to the RPG genre as a whole and the fact that Skyrim was even immensely popular in Japan

@BlueBlur101 I don't know how feasible it to find a suitable character for Smash but GTAV would probably be up there. I don't play the franchise at all but the GTA franchise is massive and for a 2013 game to become 1 of the best selling games of all time, you can't really deny its impact on gaming.

@Grumblevolcano I think the major difference between GTA and Doom is that Bethesda and Nintendo have a close working relationship, while 2K/Rockstar have little to no interest in working with them. Not to mention, GTA V has that title partially because there are people out there buying dozens of copies for cheap MTX.

@link3710 Forgot about Gooigi. He's another one that I could see as an alternate costume for Luigi.

I'm a relatively 'green' Smash player, the majority of my Smash time is spent playing the CPU.

Today I went online and played some dude who was playing as Piranha Plant. I was Kirby.

Dude beat me 15-20 times in a row, always seemed to be able to get his attacks in before mine could land, but I beat him in the end. Then I quit immediately, so technically I'm the reigning champ between us

Love Smash, but online is intense. Tried a tourney after that. Did not have a clue what was going on. The 1v1 had been no items, but the tourney had items, or assist trophies at least, and it was just chaos. Totally different dynamic. I've got a lot to learn...

Yeah... that's not he intensity of online. That's the input lag for online

@Grumblevolcano Also GTA is a tad too realistic

DOOM still has pretty outlandish weapons like the Plasma Rifle and Gauss Cannon, but GTA relies heavily on realistic and down-to-earth aesthetics and that extends to the way the weapons are modelled

That won't be able to get past CERO at all

I don't think there is, but I thought I'd check anyway... I'm still working my way through World of Light and often find myself wanting to know what music is playing - is there any in-game way of finding out, cos it doesn't seem to display it anywhere?

I don't think the game tells you. Best way I found is checking the playlist for the game the area is based on.

Sadly thats the only way how to find it out

Does anyone know if the Daemon X Machina spirits are available through normal gameplay yet? I missed the event where they were originally made available.
