Wow!

Something I just realized playing this- Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are now properly playable in handheld mode, with gyro controlling the pointer as opposed to 3D All Stars where it was only touchscreen. Of course that's still an option but gyro makes it so much more enjoyable.

BTW here's a comparison

@JaxonH
So how does that work exactly? Do you tilt the switch to collect star bits?

I always hated that galaxy 1 on 3d all stars couldn't really be played properly in handheld mode. I don't like using touch controls at all. Never did. Just feels wrong to be tapping all over the screen. Good way to risk scratching it up.

I was on the fence about buying the full collection on cart since I already own 3d all stars with galaxy 1 but you sir may have just convinced me.

Exactly. Just by tilting.

I'd forgotten how much that aggravated me and it's partly why I never played Galaxy when 3D All Stars first released. This fixes it. I tried both games and they both work fantastic with gyro tilt in handheld.

So did more people buy physical or digital? I'm usually a physical guy when it comes to Nintendo first party games. I feel nuts for buying physical since I still have my original wii copys but I don't know i just like having them in a box for my shelf.

I remember buying the original at a Walmart when I was 28 years old and some punk college boy was making fun of me for getting excited about a Mario game. He said only little kids still play Mario. I was like whatever dude go home and steal some cars in GTA and shoot up some pretend cops you moron. 😉

@Truegamer79 Definitely digital since Galaxy 2 is digital only. I already have All Stars so I don't need Galaxy 1 again.

@Truegamer79 I got it physical. I went mostly digital for the majority of the Switch's lifetime (including owning 3D All Stars digitally), and I sorta regret it now. I'm only getting physical games going forward.

I'm hoping to pick up a physical copy later this weekend.

Since it's a complete game with all of the content on the cartridge (except a few bug fixes and the slightly better graphics on Switch 2), definitely physical... once my gaming schedule opens up lol 🤣.

It's off topic but those are both absolute gems and I don't fault you one bit for spending time on them!! Both are in my top 10 on switch, easily

Looked at some of the Switch 2 footage last night. I think I'm picking this up now, very clean presentation. I guess I'm part of the problem

Will grab it physical because it's cheaper and also if it's on cartridge I can more easily share it. Yes, Virtual Game Cards, sure, but physical is still better for that kind of thing

I can confirm that after playing a few hours today, Mario Galaxy 2 is still as awesome as ever. Truly shocking news I know.

I love that the last 6 games Ive bought on Switch 2 digitally- FF Tactics, Trails in the Sky 1st, Hades II, Sonic Racing Crossworlds, Mario Galaxy and Mario Galaxy 2, I was able to download on my modded Switch OLED, rip the games and install on my emuNAND partition where I can safely overclock without worrying about detection, and without the internet checking if I have it loaded on Switch 2 before launching (they're loaded as virtual game cards on the emuNAND).

Trails in the Sky needed 998 MHz GPU (stock 768), 1224 MHz CPU (stock 1020) and 2133 MHz RAM (stock 1600) just to hold a stable 30fps. I used FPSlocker to cap at 30fps- tried lifting cap to 60fps but it was only reaching 40fps even with GPU clocked at 1 GHz, so I lowered cap to 30fps. Also used ReverseNX to output docked image in handheld mode cause it's super low res otherwise, but outputting the docked image supersamples 900p which looks super crisp. Can't imagine running on a stock NSW1. The only stable version for NSW1 is by overclocking, while the only stable version for NSW2 is running the NSW1 version and not the NSW2 version (the NSW2 version increases to 60fps and shadows are super crisp but... can't hold stable at 60, whereas the NSW1 version isn't as sharp and is capped at 30fps but... it's stable).

Even Pokemon Legends Z-A and Metroid Prime 4, after buying the NSW2 Editions, I'll be able to download on NSW1 OLED, dump the games, eject and archive, then install on the emuNAND to overclock and output the docked image in handheld, and play at same time as the NSW2 Editions. It makes every purchase feel so much more... valuable.

@skywake
I guess I'm part of the problem

No youre not. You don't have to preface explaining how you spend your own money with anything. You want the game so you're buying it. That's not being a part of any problem. The only problem is people feeling external pressure as to what games they buy and play with their own money. You saying "Idgaf what anyone says- I want this game so I'm buying it" makes you part of the solution

Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)

Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)

@GiooiG nah no book. 😥

I’m just glad you can play Galaxy 2 with a pro controller now. You play them all (3D Mahreos) on the switch

@JaxonH
Maybe. I still kinda feel like the price is too high for the ability to replay a 20 year old game. The only reason I can justify it is just how clean it seems to be, especially on Switch 2. And it's a classic

To me this is kinda equivalent to buying The Lord of the Rings on UHD BluRay even though I have them on DVD. Yes I can already play them without getting this. Yes there are ways to get it running elsewhere. And yes this is needlessly expensive for what it is. But for what's essentially an archival quality version of a classic like this the price seems reasonable

But I still don't like the precedent the price sets
