@sixrings No company is your best friend, and giant corporations like Nintendo absolutely don't need random people online defending them. I'm sure Nintendo outsourced this remaster and are going to make a buttload of cash for relatively little investment or effort. At the same time, they're making two games available on modern systems that otherwise aren't able to be purchased, with reworked textures and resolution increases, and plenty are willing to pay for that (including me), so...
It's definitely interesting to watch it go both ways though - some will jump to defend inexcusable practices, and others will grab pitchforks for the smallest perceived issues. Generally it's a good idea to avoid bandwagons in either direction.
I don't think a handful of minor texture issues are anywhere close to warranting outrage, but I also don't think it's wrong to express disappointment over something that bothers you. I was sharing it more because I was baffled that anyone is disappointed by the texture issues because they seem so insignificant to me, but it's fair if others find them worse than I do. From my perspective, people are just looking for things to get upset about because what they're really mad about is the prices (which I also don't understand, but I'll leave that one alone)

Never understood the incessant urge to lash out and lambast game after game for everything from price to minor texture differences to anything and everything else you could think of. Nor the incessant urge to defend it.
Both groups imo come across as radicalized, chronically online and spend all their time complaining about a product nobody is forcing them to buy, or defending a product that will be just as fun for them regardless of how many ppl complain.
To me it ain't that serious. Its just video games. And Im not a penny pencher where $35 for 4k remasters strikes me as some egregious moral outrage. Nor do I find it an orange clearance deal of the century.
I see fun games. Modern full releases are $70. And these look at least half as good as modern full releases, so getting them at half price doesn't even register on my radar as an "issue".
I guess some will waste literal hours, days, weeks of their life miserably complaining about a game they admit they aren't buying, and others wasting hours, days, weeks of their life defending a game that won't be any less enjoyable to play regardless of what others say about it.
I find life too short for all that nonsense. I spend about 20 seconds assessing a product. And I decide either buy or pass, then I move on. If its a pass, I'll rarely speak about it again because why would I waste my precious time in my life complaining about something Im not even going to engage with? If its a buy, I'll discuss what excites me.
But the constant back and forth about "it doesnt do this, it shouldn't be priced that, yes it does do this, its priced fine" is just wasting your life away over pointless, worthless debate. On your deathbed, I wonder how many will think wow, I wasted 3 years 8 months of my life complaining about, or defending, video game prices on the internet. Time that could have been spent meaningfully or doing something that brings happiness rather than misery...

@charliecarrot you do realize that the people on here call every developer lazy and hen it’s sub par. But when it’s Nintendo it’s not their fault
You've accused me of this before however you'll never find me calling any developer lazy but this is. I'll always rush to the defence of the developers, whoever they are. However this is Nintendo fan forum so most of the cries of "lazy" are relating to Nintendo's games. So you're only seeing what you want to see here I think
With that said, the Pokemon games lately have been sub-par and rushed. To which I blame the publisher, not the developers. But given those games still sell tens of millions of copies regardless of the level of QC who can blame them I guess
@skywake have you been to the fifa threads on here. Ea is lazy. Or the pac man thread. Why are these people lazy. It’s certainly not Nintendo getting the most flak
@sixrings
"Lazy Devs" is fairly commonly applied. I'll always call it out. But presumably you'll only ever see the times when I and others "defend Nintendo". Because that will get a rise out of you, just like the above comments did. But the times when people do the same to other companies you'll just scroll on by and not notice
That generally seems to be the way things go on this forum lately

Nobody is saying you have to care about this, but surely you want people to highlight problems with products that cost a lot of money. Since Nintendo doesn't have reviews as part of their eShop or discussion forums of their own, forums like these are the only places customers can say "this isn't good enough for me".
Again, nobody is going after you for enjoying and buying these games. But for those of us that don't, I think it's equally important we share why we think this isn't good enough. Because many potential buyers are reading topics like this to inform their own opinion, in addition to official reviews, and trying to enforce a single false viewpoint won't help anyone.
If someone decides not to buy it because a carpet texture looks a little less carpet-y in one section, I think they're really missing out on two of the best games ever made for a silly reason, but I suppose everyone has their priorities.
Realistically, people who are upset about the price will look for any reason to justify their negative reaction to the price, and they probably weren't going to buy it regardless of a small texture issue. Online discourse surrounding this remaster is almost entirely focused on the price, so I'm glad we have places like this forum for people to push back against those trying to enforce a single false viewpoint won't help anyone.

@OmnitronVariant hey man my dad kept on saying inflation wasn’t a big deal and that we just had to accept this is the new world. My father also always buys a new Lexus at exactly 100k km. But now he’s driving his pre covid Lexus at 130k km because the mid range Camry costs more than he paid for his Lexus and the Lexus equivalent is 20k more than it once was. Guess what? Not a happy camper! Why not dad? Aren’t you perfectly ok with randomly throwing the word inflation around as if it’s trivial.
@charliecarrot if Nintendo wants to price it as a new game then they should treat their games with some sort of respect rather than a simple ai upscale.
If capcom can completely remaster their games with new graphics new this new that and sell their games which are on 50% off sale a year later and sell a fraction of the units yet make a profit then surely Nintendo is just printing money on these releases. No one’s against a profit but I’d think most people don’t want to be taken advantage of either.
Comparing this to movies is also a bit off. Yes I might buy an old 80s movie for the millionth time. But the first time I bought rocky I watched it so much the vcr tape started to make weird sounds. Then I bought the dvd which was a big improvement. And then the blu rays which had some extra commentary plus again it looked better on my hd tv. And now I bought it again in uhd 4k. Now it includes directors cuts and it is native 4k which again looks better on my 4k tv than my older 1080p blu rays which were meant for full hd TVs.
I wonder how the more heavily utilized pointer controls in Galaxy 2 will fare with the lack of IR pointer controls/sensor bar? I remember that being a topic of discussion when 3D All Stars came out for why it might be harder to make a playable port of Galaxy 2 on the Switch.
I haven't played Galaxy 2 in probably a decade, so I don't remember how much of a factor tight pointer controls are in more difficult levels, but I wonder if that'll dampen the experience at all having to use gyro.

This is fine, except when the people highlighting issues are doing so in bad faith or based on unreasonable standards. For example pointing out that a third party port built to target PS5 doesn't hit the same level of clarity and saying that makes it unacceptable. Even though it's immediately apparent to everyone that Switch 2 is a portable console. Or in this example here suggesting that it's unacceptable that there are some minor texture conversion issues
Each to their own obviously but I would argue that the people saying these sorts of complaints are deal-breakers were never getting it anyway. At some point the complaints shift from legitimate criticism and legitimate issues and into just shopping for problems in order to justify a conclusion you've already landed on. And that kind of discussion doesn't help anyone
For what it's worth I think these are overpriced. But my thoughts there have little to do with the quality of the end result, which seems fair. It's clearly not a Prime Remastered or TTYD HD tier release here. But I would say it compares pretty favourably to most HD conversations. The issues I still have with it visually would require significant work. Which I'm not sure could be justified unless there was also a Galaxy 3 here
@FishyS Do you know how the motion/pointer controls were implemented in handheld play? That is my only real concern with the bundle, because I almost exclusively play handheld. Otherwise it would be a no brainer as I never played either of the two.
Did everyone see that the price has dropped on Amazon UK? 50 quid physical now. More in line with Japanese pricing. I am tempted to buy a download code on Japan site for SMG2 as it now works out at around 22 pounds

@jfp motion controls were awkward in handheld as you have to move your hand off a button to touch the touch screen. I found it hard to use slingshots and aim myself out of cannons (which requires kinda a double tap to work)

@brendathecat Thanks a lot! I'll keep that in mind and will wait for the reviews to see if it's still awkward of if they maybe found a more elegant solution. An early purchase or a purchase at all really hinges on a good gameplay experience in handheld for me.
