But I still don't like the precedent the price sets
Personally I'm pumped to see HD remasters of Wii games go for only $40 instead of the $50 or $60 we've seen before (Twilight Princess HD, Skyward Sword HD, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD). Seems like a great precedent to set to me.

Not sure if it was already mentioned, but there's (besides some other bugs) one technical problem that annoys me. Do you all notice the constant color banding? Basically every tilted or spherical surface shows horizontal lines that move with you / with the camera. Just walk around a bit on 'Starship Mario' of Galaxy 2, it's hard to unsee.
Isn't there some sort of interpolation they could apply? Really hoping for a patch.
@NintendoWife I've noticed this, and it's been bothering me quite a bit - wondered if something was up w/ my Switch settings. Was this not in the original?

Yeah I too checked my TV settings, if the culprit could be something like scaling, but the stripes remained.
Was it visible on Wii - Digital Foundry said there was no color banding in the original. I'm curious about the technical background.
@NintendoWife Do you know if it happens on tvs which don't have 4K? I don't recall anything weird on all stars.
Me neither, don't recall having the problem with 3D All Stars (via OG Switch on a 4K TV). Right now I only have a Switch 2 connected to that same 4K TV.
Digital Foundry mentioned color banding and included a shot of a Luma in front of a night sky, where the light was color banded. They said it's only a very occasional issue, but my impression is that it's quite distracting on many more objects.
So far the only issue I've noticed with Galaxy 2 is the white lighting looks messed up in Tall Trunk Galaxy's starting area. This is on Switch OLED docked by the way.
The concerns I had with controlling Yoshi with gyro pointer controls were sorta valid, because it obviously isn't as precise as the IR pointer of the Wiimote, but it's not bad once you get used to it.
It's weirdest at first, but once you get a feel for the gyro pointer, you hardly notice it anymore. I even use the pro controller and it works fine.

The gyro works alright, especially on the Switch 2 JoyCon. Slightly less so on the Pro Controller although it's serviceable. What's hard to get used to on the Pro Controller is using a button for spin jumps, just feels wrong
The one thing that does slightly annoy me though is that there's still no ability to use WiiMotes of any kind on Switch. And I know that seems like a crazy complaint to have but think about it. There are official NES controllers, SNES controllers, N64 controllers. We have had GC controller support for every console since the GC and now also entirely new wireless GC controllers. They've even revived the Virtual Boy with that shell and to some extend the Wii U GamePad with GameShare
But the WiiMote is just.... not in the mix. What's even wilder to me about this is that the WiiMote literally connects via Bluetooth. They could just do this in software. Just throw it in there. Why not? At this point we have Galaxy 1 & 2 and Skyward Sword plus Switch Sports and Metroid Prime Remastered. We have Switch 2 pushing mouse-mode for games, what is a mouse if not a pointer, just bundle that in surely
Don't get me wrong, these are pretty good and the controls here are good enough. And I'm not sure if it's the Switch 2 JoyCon being more stable or something but it's better than I remember it being on 3D All Stars. But man, if I could use original WiiMotes for this that'd just be perfection

@WaveBoy
It's not bad it's just different. Mostly it's the weight that's kinda bothering me a bit and I expect that's mostly because I'm used to playing this game with that specific controller.
The Pro Controller is fine it mostly just feels off doing some of these actions with a button rather than shaking the WiiMote. I can get behind throwing a fireball being mapped to Y. That's definitely better. But most of the other actions less so. And the pointer on the Pro Controller is.... serviceable... but the JoyCon is better. Just ergonomically
But yeah, this game was designed to be played with a specific controller that's not the JoyCon. A controller with a feature set and feel which the JoyCon gets close to replicating but it's also not quite the same. It can't be. The WiiMote was primarily designed for holding, swinging around and for pointing at a screen. The JoyCon was primarily designed to be a portable console controller that can detach from the screen. They're close, but they're not the same
Another year, another Wii release on Switch, once more I am asking where the WiiMote is
I don’t understand either. Couldn’t a sensor bar be connected via usb which the dock has. And then Nintendo could charge $50 for an accessory. Seems right up their alley other than trying to make docked play an after thought.
@sixrings, people would've complained about the price of that for sure.

Slightly off-topic, but I really hope the strong sales of this result in a re-release of Super Paper Mario. I’d definitely buy it again! 😁
Uuh that’s a long shot I’m afraid. The game was quite divisive. I did like it but it’s far from my favourite entry. And I vageuely remember it being very wordy.
@WaveBoy
They're not new games, obviously, and it's not a ground up remake like TTYD HD or Prime Remastered. So it definitely lives in that "Wii game at a higher resolution" space. On Switch 2 there are some things that are still 1080p like the cutscenes. And occasionally you'll see a model that is relatively low poly when viewed up close. But for the most part it's a very clean presentation. Something I would not have said about 3D All Stars. There's nothing much here that stands out as out of place, which is usually what ends up happening when you up-res games like this through emulation or something. This isn't revolutionary, but it's a solid release
As far as how I originally played these games. The Wii was an odd console in that regard for me, and I think most people of that era. Galaxy I played on a 22" CRT and I remember thinking it looked amazing. But within the next year I got a 32" 1080p LCD and one of my first negative experiences of that TV was booting up Galaxy and how awful it looked. This is a game that was built for a CRT, but outside of that era it wants the additional pixels. And this is the first time I'm playing Galaxy 2 without being distracted by that
