@Mana_Knight near the end of the trailer they're clearly showing new content for the base game, so this is definitely more than just a multiplayer only add-on
Although the DLC is named in a multiplayer-focused way so it os unclear how much single player there will be.
Turns out there's a demo in some stores now, showcasing both some of the new multiplayer content and the new main-game content. I was able to play the Wendy fight! Details below.
After visiting a Toad Brigade outpost tent, you have the option to be escorted directly to the boss stage. In the case of Pipe-Rock Plateau, Wendy has invaded Piranha Plants on Parade. At the start of the level she speaks to you (Koopaling dialog! As rare as it is precious) and then you proceed to play through the level. The entire level is suffused in a new Wonder effect that causes (new!) enemies to emerge from portals that appear and vanish throughout the stage. Also instead of Fire Flowers as power-ups in the stage, there are Super Flower Pots, and the new form is very useful fighting the new enemies. Then at the end there's the boss fight. It's not a very challenging fight but I was very pleasantly surprised; I was worried that three stomps would defeat her, but no, there's a second phase to the fight. Being that this is only the first world's boss fight, I'm very much looking forward to the other six. (The Morton one from the overview trailer looks like a lot of fun.)
The multiplayer stuff was pretty cool as well. I had a friend with me and we played both the competitive games that were on offer. One fun wrinkle: Each player gets to choose one of a small selection of badges before each match. For the "hold a baby Yoshi and have it eat as much as possible" game, there were a few of the standard jump-related badges, then the Jet Run badge for an extra challenge, and finally a new badge that was specific to this minigame which gives you more points for each fruit eaten, specifically called out as a beginner mode.

@Nep-Nep-Freak
But I thought you are completely against with Switch update and don't want your Switch machine get updated.
I felt confused to digest that statement.
@Anti-Matter, I am not completely against them. I'm just not the greatest fan.
