@Eel I agree, but the fact that they went back at all is amazing (to me). I wonder if they have to file new copyrights in the west over any older characters from games called harvest moon...

Like for promotional materials. I’m sure they still own everything but the marketing might be weird. If they have to pay Natsume anything I am certain that would be an auto veto.

@Ryu_Niiyama I dunno. They've been using returning characters since the first Story of Seasons, and the last one was a remake, so I doubt there's much of a problem.

It doesn't even seem they need to rename them or anything, the just choose to. Because they seem to like using literal romanizations for some reason.

They would probably only need to arrange something with natsume to use the titles. Which is why they tiptoe around naming A New Beginning.

I like to believe it's a more personal decision for the team, it's probably most of the same people that worked on the 3DS games still working on this one, so these are "their" characters and games. Maybe.

@Eel Just speculation on my part of course. Either way I am excited. I think I will stick with Laura though. I love stardew but the pixel art isn’t my thing and something feels off about it to me. Likely conditioning from years (decades?) of bokumono.

Heh, I don't mind the pixel art in Stardew Valley. I like that game a lot.

I spent a lot of time playing HM:GBC, FoMT and DS as a kid/teen. So I guess that helps.

I feel that 3D bokumono/harvest moons tend to have longer animations for common actions, which kinda annoys me once I realize how long it takes for my character to harvest a turnip or pet a cow. The 2D games tend to be snappier. So I guess I gravitate to them.

@Eel that’s fair, I feel like bokumono added other ways to speed things up like machines and I also tend to settle on those types of games for a while. I’m still playing Sakuna currently for instance. So I’m not really looking to speed up the animation.

I also just think that I played enough 8bit/16bit/32bit games that I don’t wanna go back for a little while. It’s not quite fatigue, but I just expect 3D I suppose. Or maybe for games that suck at least 70+ hours I want more than pixel art. I say this as I hack my snes classic so I can play sailor moon games again. Now if Marvelous went full hand drawn, that would be fun.

Anyway customization and potential spouses look good. I do wonder how the “find live stock in the woods” will go. Like can I get a cow first or am I stuck with chickens? I want to know more about the clearing and building up land mechanic as well. Ugh is it March yet?

I assume you'll find animals around kinda like in minecraft, but you won't be able to keep them unless you have the correct place to house them.

I actually prefer the pixel art of Stardew and the early Harvest Moon games. I wish they'd go back to it. These overly rounded and computerized-looking graphics are ok, but not sometimes lack life.

No need the DLC bachelors since they have less appealing looking in my opinion.
I would like to see big muscle bachelors like Owen and Bob from previous games.

I will be managing two saves. One with Laura and one with Iris.

Ah hah. I thought by "new bachelors and bachelorettes" you meant the new new people.

It's kinda funny if we imagine the farmer going up to the marriage options and declaring they'll give a chance to someone new, just to shove the new people away to make their way towards Iris.

@Eel You are killing it with the headcanons! As soon as I read that I pictured my farmer catting up Laura, seeing Iris walking by in the distance and just sidesteppping out of the convo to go run and catch up to Iris. Too funny!
