It’s the end of the season, which means there’s a gold rotation in Salmon Run this Saturday and Sunday at Jammin’ Salmon Junction.

I’ll try to get the gold badge for that stage this time. I’ve come close.

@Dev-N Thanks for the heads up for the gold rotation.

I can never get past VP 200 or low 300s playing solo. Although, if there's a time to try, it's in the first few hours when the rotation starts, when most tryhards are on.

Just as I thought, there’s another Big Run this December at Barnacle & Dime. It’s the 12th through 14th.

@Dev-N I actually thought there would be another Big Run during December too, and it’s happening on the weekend it’s my birthday

It took longer than I expected and it got rough enough that I thought I almost wouldn't make it to EVP 999 this time, but with a high score of 202, I got a Top 2% ranking for the third time in a row. I still reached 999 and beat several Triumvirates. I had a merry Big run after all!

Here's the ending dialogue for a Barnacle & Dime Big Run that wasn't in the game at first because of the silly reward glitch that one time.
Big Man: "Ay. (I'm also hearing that Barnacle & Dime will be able to reopen right away.)"
Frye: "Shoppers everywhere, rejoice! Thanks for saving the mall from the Salmonids, y'all."
Shiver: "You saved the city's best shopping center, and you looked good doing it. Kudos."
Frye: "Well? What are we waiting for? Let's go celebrate at Barnacle & Dime! FOOD COURT!"
Big Man: "Ay! Ay! (Ooo! Let's go to the fancy place we always talk about going to!)"
Shiver: "Feeling like a big spender, Big Man? I suppose it's OK to splurge every so often."
Big Man: "Aaay! (Yesss!)"
Frye: "Yeah, don't even worry about it, Big Man. Our fearless leader is treating anyway!"
Shiver: "But... But... Oh, I suppose I deserve this."

Got a gold decoration this Big Run, can’t recall if I got other gold decorations from many previous Big Runs tho

Now to wait for FrostyFest in January, or a possible Animal Crossing fest (if that Splatfest terminal decoration is anything to go by)

The Frosty Fest repeat has been officially announced. It's the 9th through 11th in January.

@MrCarlos46 That Splatfest terminal furniture should’ve had a sea creature next to the fish and bug, not a flower, so I never would’ve taken that as a hint anyway.

I’m staying on Team Solo. Don’t like going along with a white ink team winning by default, but I’ve learned my lesson to not betray a Splatfest team ever again. Especially not a winning team.

@Dev-N Cuz the way the items were there would’ve probably been something like

What is your favorite hobby?

Catch Bugs vs. Go Fish vs. Grow a Garden

Realistically they probably always wanted it to just be a decoration and needed some icons to add to it even though they never actually plan to have an Animal Crossing fest

Imma guess we’re not getting a Mario fest either this time around even though it’s the 40th anniversary

Hmm… Splatoon 3 just got a new, separate PEGI listing for Switch 2.
https://pegi.info/search-pegi?q=Splatoon+3
This follows after Pikmin 3 got something similar. Could Splatoon 3 get an actual S2 edition despite that free update that touched up the visuals? I hope Raiders hasn’t been downgraded to becoming Splatoon 3 DLC…

@Dev-N I very much don't see a Switch 2 edition happening, but I suppose it's possible. That said, I am as close to 100% sure as possible (for someone who literally cannot know this sort of thing) that it's not S3 DLC. Here's my reasoning:
1. There's a lot of debate about this, but most folks in the wider Splatoon community agree that Raider was probably set to be part of the Expansion Pass before delays to Side Order/the general size of it prevented that. Thus, it became its own thing.
2. It was already announced as a spinoff. Changing it into an S2E DLC (like "Splatoon 3: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Splatoon Raiders") would not only contradict that, but also cause general confusing/anger around the already-touchy topic of DLC and S2Es.

@Dev-N @CaleBoi25 PEGI listings in the way shown there have meant both update patches and Switch 2 Editions in the past (e.g. Mario Odyssey has a Switch 2 release date of June 5th but was a free update meanwhile Prime 4 has a Switch 2 release date of December 4th but was a Switch 2 Edition).

My guess is that they're doing another free content update for Splatoon 3 like the one in June. Another map, more kits, etc.

Grumblevolcano

Dev-N

@Grumblevolcano Does PEGI always update their listing with each game update? Because that would be a lot of listings.

@CaleBoi25 Yeah, Splatoon 3 already has a paid expansion and trying to add another would rile people up over the player base being split between those have and have not again, as well as getting people worried about Splatoon 4 again. At the end of the day, I just wanted a story mode starring Deep Cut, but I was led to believe that Raiders would be something special as a full-fat release and, as you pointed out, Splatoon’s very first spin-off game. Sure, crazier development setbacks like Metroid Prime 4 have happened, but it wouldn’t make sense. It’s not like Nintendo would ever be worried about Raiders selling on its own. Japan alone will make sure of that!

Can’t share it on my phone, but I like SRL’s post wishing a happy new year. There wasn’t a New Year’s countdown at the Grand Festival! That’s a little strange…

@Dev-N No but the other June free update games have a Switch 2 listing with the release date of the free update.

Grumblevolcano

MrCarlos46

@Dev-N Unlikely, otherwise it would’ve gotten a separate listing.

This probably has to do with the free update the game got back in June but they never added the rating for

There's NSO icon frames available for the Frosty Fest teams.

There's also going to be special icons available after the fest. You'll get one if you play during the fest itself.
I've allowed myself to display more icons than I used to, so I like that there's ones of Deep Cut in their Frosty Fest outfits now.

@rallydefault @squiddu-real
Here's the thread in case you need it haha

I've got to side with Squiddu on this one. Side Order is pretty fun the first 2, maybe 3 runs with each weapon. Unfortunately, that doesn't last long. I'm a fan of the mechanics of Splatoon, and I think being able to mess around with them in a roquelike is a stroke of genius. But ... When there aren't all that many perks (there are plenty, but not "enough" imo), the same 7 stages seem to be on repeat, the types of stages aren't that exciting, and it's fairly hard to even get super unique builds, the gameplay becomes repetitive far faster than something like, say, Dead Cells or Hades.
As far as "well it's just DLC" goes, I'd point to Donkey Kong Bananza. This is a similarly priced DLC that straight-up reuses the base game maps and item, yet manages to feel far more unique and have far more to do.

@CaleBoi25 dlc is not meant to be an excuse to make a smaller experience. in specifically splatoon's case it seems to aim to be more of a drastically different experience from the rest of the game, so why exactly skimp out when barely anything (save for some clothing and maybe clone weapons) ever makes it to the main game?

i haven't played the bananza dlc but i can still think of other dlc that's similarly priced but offers far more.. yet somehow this gets the pass?
