@Zyrac Considering the final battle of the first game was seen as a performance, you may have a point there. Maybe Octarians are just really naive and believe whatever Octavio says, and used that to explain away his loss ("Oh, that whole thing about me being defeated horribly? That was, uh, just part of the show! Yeah, totally, could definitely beat them if I wanted to, but...").
I imagine the Octolings, however, are smarter than that. Which is why the ones under his command all wear what are most likely mind-control shades, similar to the one he used on Callie.
I swear I read an article that said that Octolings were being brainwashed. Something about music being used to mind control them. Let me see if I can find it.
@Blur_Escalation Ok first of all, you're wrong about the Mayo/Ketchup results. Not only was the popularity similar, it also matter that much. Popularity only makes up 33% of the vote, so in most cases the solo and team win rate will decide the Splatfest.
Besides, the popularity was pretty similar in both regions: Mayo/Ketchup was 27/73% in NA & AU and 34/66% in Europe. Which means Ketchup is everywhere and favoured by about two thirds of the population.
Also, the difference is only 7%. I bet if you asked Bulgarians and the Dutch (for example) which one they preferred, the difference would be higher than 7%.
But again, it was not popularity that decided the Splatfest, it was the win rate (52/48% and 51/49% NA & AU, 51/49% EU).
But even if we forget that for a moment:
What's the point of determining Mayo vs Ketchup separately instead of globally? Isn't it more relevant/interesting which one is more popular globally?
I mean, we're all living on the same planet and leading globalized lifes (like: using the internet, reading worldwide news, watching worldwide videos on Youtube and communicating with people from around the world). You gotta ask yourself this:
Where does the food you eat come from? Where do the mayo and ketchup come from? Where do all the products you buy come from? Where does your Switch come from? Plus, we all have a shared history.
And the comparison with Soccer/American Football is totally flawed. Mayo and Ketchup are both relevant choices in the US and EU, while Soccer is way more relevant in the EU and American Football more in the US.
That said, there are several European countries where soccer isn't the most popular sport (like Greece or Lithuania). And soccer is also popular in many parts of Asia (like JP) and Africa for example. It's also getting more common in the US.
Plus Rugby and Gaelic Football should be included since all those sports are related to each other.
Really, a terrible analogy to mayo and ketchup...

Octarians are seemingly formed from severed tentacles from hosts. Now, according to the official Splatoon Artbook, Octolings are also Octarians, which may also mean they themselves are incapable of reproduction.
DJ Ocatvio utilizes his unique music to help keep Octos in line, which isn't too hard considering that they are already obedient and diligent.
The underground caverns that the Octarians inhabit were made by humans to survive the apocalypse, but they failed. So the Octos sort of just made its ruins into their home. Their technology in general seems to be based off of human scraps they found and modified, and they're extremely oblivious to many things.

Just imagine they would merge every Splatfest. In my example Mayo vs Ketchup. In the japanese results Ketchup got a point on "Team" with 51%. Merged results could change the results in favor to Team Ketchup. Ketchup would still be more popular and poin Team would probably win. My point is. A merged system ruins just everything. It wouldn't be fair. We fight against regional players and we should get the results of this fight.

I'm really close to getting my perfect gearset. I have my perfect Ink Recovery Up hat, my Ink Saver Main shirt with two Ink Saver Main subs, and my Run Speed Up shoes with two Ink Saver Main subs. I'm basically an ink saving machine. Now it's time to grind 60 Ink Saver Main chunks to finish the set off. That should be fun...
Inkipedia now has Swim Speed Up data, with a chart that also shows Ninja Squid speeds. Like non-firing Run Speed Up, this ability is now adjusted for weapon weight. Seems like you really want to run this if using the E-liter or Dynamo Roller, although it is of course useful in any case.
(You may notice the Heavy Splatling is not actually a heavy weapon. Blame the translators.)
I only need three more Ink Recovery Up chunks to finish my 'mobility' set. If only these three would wanna show up ... Three days now and not a single chunk, despite my Tentatek shirt. And I've also been losing so much my Buckie Boo is back to Dry. Not really a Bad Splatday but whenever I take out the Tri-Slosher, I lose. Also got a bunch of disconnects on my team, too. Not a good day Splatoon-wise.
Finally, after such a day, I've been rewarded with an Ink Recovery Up chunk! Oh thank you, great Iwata in the heavens!
Edit: Found a gear I've had with two sub Ink Recovery Up, thus I can finally finish my mobility set, consisting of a King Flip Mesh, Zekko Hoodie and Moto Boots with 1 Main Ink Saver (Main) and 1 Sub Ink Saver (Main), 1 Main Swim Speed Up and 1 Sub Swim Speed Up, Ninja Squid, 3 Sub Ink Recovery Up, 2 Sub Run Speed Up and 2 Sub Ink Saver (Sub).
Originally had three Run Speed Up sub abilities but then I still had one slot open for something and having only one sub ability doesn't make too much sense so I went with two sub abilities each.
One thing that's really annoying me and feels unfair about Brushes:
You can't really see them when they fling their brush sideways. Whenever I encounter one, I never know where to shoot at because they basically become invisible.
I could swear this was different in Splatoon 1.
Any thoughts?

@shani I think Inkbrushes are more predominant with your issue since they don't really have a long range and can ink so fast. I'd guess maybe shoot down the middle? I know, can be quite tough in a split-second decision.
Octobrushes don't have that issue quite as much since they throw ink further. Rarely have a problem taking them out, unless they sneak attack me.
As for updates, stability updates for online play would be nice. They've done too many to count on 3DS, now should be the Switch's turn.
@ACK: People wonder what Inklings think about Marina, but what do her fellow Octarians think about her?! They must think she's a traitor to her species. She probably had to leave Octo Canyon altogether, no longer welcome there anymore. Then again, Shifty Station clearly takes place in Octo Canyon, so maybe not...
It probably involves similar logic to Mario and Bowser's friendly games of golf, tennis, and Kart racing.
The Octarians are pretty dim-witted about certain things and follow for the most part what DJ Octavio says. DJ also seems to take most of these things as a game at this point based on general behavior and how he is featured in the ending art of the game. So it's not difficult for them to possibly more friendly in general. Not too mention, the Octarians seemed to actually enjoy the Squid Sisters and such back in Splatoon 1.
There's also the implication that the Octarians may have been helping the Inklings with certain things, as shown in the Sunken Scroll.
Actually, it seems that the Salmonid are the main enemies this game. They're the ones with most of the propaganda against them, and details depicting them as crazed. They even have a religious allusion.
@-Green- While they may be scary-looking and clearly have a passion for fighting, most of their violent actions are in response to invaders of their territory. Even they might just see this as something of a game as well, given their tendency to call off their attacks after a set amount of time.
Salmonids have also made a deal with Octarians to get the Gushers used for hidden Goldie rounds, so it's not like they can't be reasoned with.
Some serious network problems today in Splatoon 2. Random disconnections, waiting forever to gather up or leaving room because "no enough players", playing against one player... at least in Europe.
@CroRock I think it's just a matter of time before they open up the servers to all of the west. More and more people are finding other games to play where as the first game came out and was the only good game to play for quite some time. I haven't touched this since M+R came out and with the first game I played that like it was my job for 5 to 6 months straight.
