Does anybody know why they merged the NA and European results? I hope they don't do this with all Splatfests. Especially for specific themes like Mayo vs Ketchup, where other culture could mean very different results.
Btw. you can look at the Top 100 players of a Splatfest on the App. I randomly played with or against some of those. I must be close to the Top 100 then.
@shani Siding with a character will kill the fun for you imo. I know it's impossible to believe me but all the three Splatfests I've participated in so far have coincidentally been with Marina's side. Emphasis on coincidental. I'm really hoping the that in the next Splatfest Pearl will support the side I like. That way I won't be paired with horny noobs who snort at Marina and I'll also get to support the side I want. Win-win. All I can do is hope that it happens.. until then, I'll just crawl into a corner and acknowledge the fact that this is the second Splatfest in a row I've lost in, without it being my fault...
Been really busy, but want to catch up on this thread and reply to some posts over the next day or so. Also open to squad up in Salmon Run or League today or tomorrow if anyone is interested...
However, the main reason I am here is to complain about the incredible amount of ragequitting disconnects my family experienced over this splatfest! My power was in the 2000s and it only happened a few times to me, but my son and daughter had last second disconnects in a majority of their wins against team flight and it was just obnoxious to see them get bodied half the time and then rampant connection errors the other half when they finally broke through. Thankfully it would usually still count towards their Splatfest rank, but it was a completely demoralizing experience for them after being psyched up for the entire week.
Another major problem with team invisibility was a preponderance of teammates wouldn't try, either attempting squid parties or whatever. On their way to champion they were yelling at the screen like true hardened gamers. In a way I was proud, but what a frustrating way to slog through the Splatfest after so much hype.
Team invisiblility losing is going to be the rotten cherry on top, so I don't even want to load up the game for them. Especially after my son spent most of the week convincing his sister to join invisiblity so they could be on the same team after she sort of settled on team flight....
Ok, sorry about the personal rant, but this sort of poor sportsmanship has gotten a little over the top in Splatoon 2. Another thing they run into often are vile spawn campers who shoot fish in a barrel until disconnecting when they finally get splatted or lose. I fear the community is far less encouraging in low level play compared to the first.
@Aurumonado Yes, when I join up with my son in TW it seems we are on separate teams 75% of the time. No exaggeration. In that case I don't mind too much since I just splat his whole team and mostly let him splat me whenever we engage. But it is frustrating to rarely get to work together.
Other options are to duo in league battles, but when we do that it seems we are always teamed up against players well over his head or given worthless teammates. So the best way to play with a friend is to play Salmon Run together.
You can play as a duo with randoms in Salmon Run and it is a blast. I recommend taking advantage when shifts are available and you both are free. SR is the lone saving grace for playing with a friend, really.
EDIT: Equally maddening is the restrictions on duos during Splatfest...
@Sir_Anthony@Zyrac Oh cool, glad to hear that! Gives me even more motivation to level up. @Aurumonado No you can play together in a twin squad if you choose 'League Battle'.
Cannonically, Pearl is actually Marina's senpai. In the japanese version, their interaction is usually with Marina referring to Pearl as her teacher, and is tad different than the the NA and EU versions.
What, how is that possible, isn't pearl younger?
There are even some interactions between them - like that bit where Marina says she'll take away Pearl's weapon until she cools down - that suggest Marina is Pearl's "supervisor". But of course, that could be just the English translation.
@Blue_Blur: Sorry for running of like that, something came up and I had to stop. @Yasaal I only side with my favourite character if I don't care about the topic. But generally I don't care so much for the topic or the characters, I just want the sea snails.
Does anybody know why they merged the NA and European results?
Umm, because that's way better than regional Splatfests? It enables us to play together. Why should we be separated? I really hope they keep this for all future Splatfests. And not just EU and NA, but JP too.
@shani Who knows about age... I think the inference is that Pearl has essentially coached Marina on stage presence as well as integration into inkling society. There is an implication that Marine's shy personality is in part due to her sensitivity to cultural and racial differences.
@shani Actually it was team flight staying true to their name when my son or daughter would finally win a match for invisibility. It was never in the middle, it was ragequitters on team flight who closed the software after they realized a loss, no doubt. I will say it did happen a couple times when they lost (team invisible ragequitters), but nearly 70% of the wins I witnessed ended in connection errors. Shameless.
@ACK Hm strange, I actually experienced less dcs (on both teams) than in regular TW matches. Well guess we never see the whole picture, so the experience can differ dramatically.
My GOTY? Legend Of Zelda: Splat of the child. Ah no, I meant LoZ: Breath of the SPLATOOOON!
@shani Well, I did say that in my experience there wasn't much of this, but my Splatfest power was in the 2000s. My kids were around 1300-1600 and this ragequitting nonsense was rampant in that range.
EDIT: Which makes a bit of sense, younger players or those with less experience would be more likely to try this. Also that a Splatfest tallies wins and losses might encourage more gaming of the system. To be clear, we had zero disconnects in the middle of a match between four of us (me, wife, and two kids). All connection errors were during the results.
It appears that Splatnet often won't register the stats a match if you quit during results, so some players might be under the impression that this is a technique of wiping away a loss.
However, the same match result will appear on all the other player's Splatnet with the guilty ragequitter showing 0p. So I don't think it actually works, but you can imagine a segment of players believing they can game the system through this tactic.
So, I just used 13 snails to reroll chunks to finish my perfect gear set. And now I want to use the Forge Splattershot Pro. However, I'm growing fond of the Mini Splatlin, and becoming curious of the Heavy Splatling (despite its horrible special).
Any opinions on Mini Splatling vs Splattershot Pro vs Heavy Splatling?
I'm using 6 Main abilities (3 mains, and 3 triple sub "mains"). Run Speed, Swim Speed, Ink Res, Ink Saver Main, Ink Saver Main, and Ink Recovery Up.
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
@ACK Ah, you're right, I somehow overlooked this. Well then it's fitting with my experience as I was somewhere around a Splatfest power of 1800 I think (didn't really pay attention to it).
Although, how do you know it was ragequitting and not a normal disconnect? I'm not saying it wasn't, but it seems pretty im possible to determine that since you rarely experience the moment someone disconnects. For all we know, they could've disconnected before the match went south and the loss was only the effect of their dc.
I've heard Crusty Sean's drinks are cursed, and I'm about ready to believe it. What a losing streak. Oh well, still made pretty good progress on the outfit I'm working on.
I also learned today that if your whole Salmon Run team is dead but there are still unexploded bombs out, it's not a wipe yet. Guess the Bomb Launcher is good for something.
@shani
The games themselves were regional only. I see no point in merging the results... I was Team Flight, but Invisibility could have possibly won this Splatfest in either region. Don't know why, but it feels a bit unfair to me.
@Blur_Escalation Well for me, the point in merging the results is the fact that the theme is identical. If you ask me, there's no need for other reasons because it's the ultimate argument .
'Cultural differences' don't count as an argument, otherwise you would have to separate the NA results as well the EU results by country and federal state. Because, you know, there are many cultural differences between the four NA (USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil) coutries and all of the 27 EU countries as well as cultural differences between the states inside each country.
E.g. bavarians have a completely different culture than inhabitants from other states of Germany. The French have a different culture than the Dutch. People from New York have a different culture than those from Texas and so on.
Lol and just as I open your profile (I assumed you were American), I realize you're from Germany as well. ^^
@JaxonH Mini Splatling's mobility is enhanced by it's burst bombs, allowing you to climb vantage points quickly, as well as the usual softening up of targets. In a way it bridges the gap between shooters and splatlings, since the damage output is similar to the Splattershot. Don't expect to hold an area from one position for long, though, since the range is only slightly above-average.
The thing that gets me about the Heavy isn't it's much-maligned Sting Ray (rather it makes the weapon killer in Tower Control), it's the Sprinkler. It just isn't as useful as it was in the first game, with few optimal locations to hide one, not to mention taking a big chunk of ink reserve away from an ink-hungry weapon. As a result you can often find yourself stuck in enemy ink if you throw one at a bad time. Still, the weapon can handle itself well at most ranges, even up close with preparedness, so it's not bad. Plus the Sting Ray can counter chargers, the one thing that can beat you in a ranged contest.
Forge Pro is a mid-to-long range powerhouse with several tools to help manipulate enemy movement and remain in it's comfort zone, whereas the normal Pro is more of a supporter that inks turf while tossing point sensors at any suspicious location.
@Dev Perhaps the average Octarian is as oblivious to the conflict as the average Inkling, and the difference is just that Octavian's secret army has more than five members. Or am I forgetting something that would disprove that?
@shani
Well. Mayo vs Ketchup(Edit: in Japan) showed that there are differences. If I remember correctly Mayo was more popular there. Would have changed the end result for them. Ketchup would win in this case. There may be themes where this could happen between EU and NA.. Don't know.. Football(Soccer) vs American Football? I think like everyone likes Football in Europe. (And the other way around). Just an extreme example. Cultural differences matter.
