@-Green- Splatfests match people up with the average "Splatfest Power" of the group... which isn't calculated for an individual until they've played 8 or so matches. So you can expect whack matchups until then. No game mode matches people up by level (other than prohibiting players less than level 10 from joining Ranked) and it's just as well, since it's not necessarily indicative of skill, only time spent playing the game. A level 1 could be a total newbie, or a player that spent an extensive amount of time learning in single-player and/or Salmon Run, or a veteran from the first game.
When Splatfest Power was introduced in the first game, its starting value was based on your rank, so that helped get reasonable matchups right away. I can understand why they dropped that - there's no Turf War rank, after all - but it's unfortunate to not have anything to replace it.
@Zyrac It'd be nice if the game could simply remember what your power was at the end of a previous Splatfest and carry it over to next, somewhat like Salmon Run does. It's not like each Splatfest requires an entirely different set of skills and strategies like the various ranked modes. It's just Turf War.
You know, with the (apparently) ever-changing layout of Shifty Station, I do hope it gets enrolled to the common stages once Spla2n's Splatfests are over and done with. It could randomly select one of the various layouts and start the match. Liked the layout from the second Splatfest better tbh, this one's just an open battlefield with occasionally rising platforms.
Lucky for me and my self-esteem when it comes to spattle, I've regained my mojo from the past two bad splatdays and got my buckie boo, the Tri-Slosher back from Dry to Superfresh. Still gonna go through with my break, I'll just play it a little less than I'm used to (pretty much all day for six or so hours) and play something else if I'm having a bad splatday.

@GoldenGamer88 I've got a bunch of favorite alternate names for maps. Humpbuck Dump Truck, Urchin Underpants, etc. @shani, It's possible they count each player as a point. So, if our team has 3 Euros and 1 Dolla Bill, 3/4 of the points go to Europe, 1 to America. I can kinda see a problem there, though.
@Nicolai I assume we don't at least they didn't announce anything like that.
Iirc previous Splatfests had separate results despite the themes being identical.
@shani I seem to remember the mayo vs ketchup having identical results in the west, but I'll have to research once I'm done with these matches. @shani The problem with splitting points is that, if too many opposing 1&3 teams face each other, the results may be skewed, with a team winning in one region because more points were counted in the other region.
My Port Mackerel matches were really swingy. Always one team or the other getting destroyed. I suspect it's because most people don't use the side paths to escape if the're pinned into their base.
On the subject of mangling stage names, I can't help mentally hearing "Manta Maria" in Mario's voice...
