Welp, looks like no Sonic for me either. Was hoping to pick it up in town today but the dear shop assistant at the local Müller drug store had no idea what a 'Sonic Forces' nor a 'Switch' was and I had zero patience to spell it out for her, wait 20 minutes until she manages to look up whether they have it or not in the computers and then wait another 10 minutes until she may or may not find it in storage. Also, those numbers are no joke. I‘ve waited well over an hour on two occassions in the same store. That‘s why I make the trip to GameStop - I get actually competent and even nice shop assistants there. Oh well, gonna pick up Sonic with Doom this Friday then.

Another Switch specific review. Using Google Translate:
In short, Sonic Forces has some glimmers that indicate that it could have been a better game, but the Sonic Team has the incomprehensible habit of returning to the Sonic more baroque than they need. Less epic stories and more fun phases, gentlemen, who have been doing this all their lives ...
ASSESSMENT
You have to see it as a Sonic designed for the younger players, but it still drags errors that the Sonic Team should have learned some time ago.
Honestly to anyone willing to take the dive, get the PC version. At least then you have 60fps and can eventually get mods if you really truly don't like the game. Either way don't expect to be impressed; Generations was years ago and this cant even scrape the feet of that game.
People might think I'm childish for my picture, and I am.
Favorite games: Super Mario Odyssey, Super Metroid, Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption, and Sonic Generations
If you like Kirby, then you are a person I can trust.
So Amazon has imparted the wonderful advice of "Check your tracking for details" when asked just where the hell this game is after only telling me of payment issues on launch day.
What does tracking say? Due today - Not yet dispatched. That's why I'm asking customer service.
Good God you'd get blood from a stone first.

Sonic Forces Review! WORSE Than Mania? (PS4/Switch/Xbox One)
Not Switch specific but it's easier to watch a video than read. And if this person doesn't like it then it must be bad. He's pretty scathing in his criticism.
@kkslider5552000 I get opinions are your own thoughts and all that
No, you clearly don't. Look, I do realize butthurt over negative review scores is usually silly, but that's not the point. The point is, I actually read those reviews, I played some of those games. I feel confident in saying that in a world where Assassin's Creed Unity got ok reviews, the idea that reviews' opinions should be taken seriously should be flatly ignored. Nah dude, Sonic is an easy target, and Assassin's Creed is a series where people are scared of losing access to Ubisoft games if they give it a bad score.
If by spot on you mean "obvious positives and negatives are pointed out that anyone could figure out", sure.
lmao, let's not pretend most game reviews are particularly in-depth. WOW YOU NOTICED THE NIGHT TIME LEVELS ARE A MEDIOCRE GOD OF WAR CLONE? THANK YOU REVIEWER, WHAT WOULD I DO WITHOUT YOU?!
Yeah, but I don't care if they line up with gamers or not. It's just abundantly clear they have different standards for what's good for Sonic, when so many series are considered good no matter what mediocre at best trash is thrown out. It's so obvious too. My favorite is I distinctly remember a video of someone playing Sonic Lost World over audio of a fairly negative review, and the gameplay flat out contradicted the review, on just a factual level. I'm not even like a huge Lost World fan, but it's just embarrassing.
I did a lot of travelling today so had a few hours to play on my Switch. Some thoughts:
The presentation is excellent, imo. The story is well-told through dramatic cutscenes and some short skits between stages. It's nice to see all the characters working together in a slightly edgier story - it's quite Sonic Adventure-esque.
I don't see an issue with performance. 720p 30 fps is fine for me and the least of my concerns in this game.
As @QwertyQwerty said, the stages are very short. Perhaps disappointingly so.
The gameplay is somehow Generations-like but worse. The avatar stages are the epitome of this - they are just clunkier modern Sonic. I absolutely adore Generations so I can find some enjoyment here, but if you don't like Generations there's no way you will like this.
The level design is poor. Most of the time I either don't feel in control or I feel I don't know what I'm doing. I know this is a common complaint in the "boost"-style games (Generations, Colors, Unleashed), but I felt that the stages in Generations and Unleashed at least had some sort of flow, and obstacles were more predictable (I personally didn't like the level design in Colors).
To add to the previous point: levels are either extremely easy, or involve a lot of cheap deaths.
I really, really want to like this game, but I can see myself barely touching it again after a week of playing. I would've probably been happier with a Generations port to play on the go, or the story of this with Generations-style gameplay.
As for the Switch edition, 30FPS simply doesn't feel good when you're the self-proclaimed Blue Blur and things look blurry. It's perfectly playable, like many 3D Sonics have been in past years, but given that the Switch version is 720p30 compared to 1080p60 elsewhere, it's just odd — especially when you consider that Sonic Lost World ran at 60FPS on the Wii U.
While I see potential in Sonic Forces, the execution just isn't there, especially with the Switch edition. In the future I really hope Sega reinvents the wheel, taking a more Mario Odyssey adventure approach. The whole level-based 3D "thing" hasn't worked out so frequently that it's worth a shot.
[This review is based on a retail build of the game provided by the publisher.]
Haven't played a boost game since Colors. I feel that, much like Yoshi's Wooly World, the main challenge is in discovering secrets more so than just getting through the game. Most of my deaths so far have just been pushing the wrong buttons at the wrong times.
The avatar seems fine to me, just takes getting used to your wispon being your main weapon instead of your homing attack (except maybe if you're a bear). I thought I'd hate the lightning weapon with how it seemed to jerk you forward uncontrollably, but it actually feels a lot smoother in practice. I also like Classic Sonic's drop dash better in this game than in Mania, it's much easier to get a substantial boost from it.
Overall I have fun with it, the brisk pace of the short levels and plot makes for great pick up and play IMO, though I can understand how those can irk others.
Alone, a force. Together, a force of nature.

@BLP_Software I remember you saying in the past you are a big Sonic fan but you were pretty scathing of Sonic Mania during your playthrough. I didn't agree with it but that's OK.If even Mania didn't do it for you then I'm curious what your opinions on Forces will be.
I'm also a huge Sonic fan by the way, that little fella meant to much to me in the 90's that no matter what nonsense he's got up to since then I'll always be a fan of his. I just won't be buying his 3D games anymore unless something drastically changes. I didn't even like Colors and that's supposed to be one of best outings since Adventure. I did quite enjoy the demo for Lost World though to be fair.
@OorWullie I'm scathing of Sonic Mania showing so much potential with new level themes and having it stifled. The actual gameplay is fine glitches, softlocks etc. aside. I don't give scores to games I review but 8/10. Just reeks of missed potential. Like it could have been great instead of 2/CD/3 again with 4 new zones.
