@6ch6ris6: I'm thinking sold separately. The portable could play the games at lower settings, like mobile and PC. The console could be $250 and the portable $150

Hard to say goodbye to what isn't there already. If that rumor is true, then I suspect even worse sales than the Wii U, further continuing their downward sales trend. And if that happens, they might as well just stop making home consoles all together and focus on weaker, cheaper handhelds.

I wouldn't go that far. As a fan of the OG Wii, I'm personally okay with underpowered hardware. But it's not going to bring in any 3rd party support for them.

Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

@skywake: Not true. We do know that it is a home console of some sort. Reggie outright said it in his recent interview with Forbes.

"In the home console space, we're focused on Wii U. NX is in the future."

In no way does that quote say "the NX is our next home console." It just says the NX is in the future...which we know.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

@kyuubikid213: You're in denial. In that article Reggie already talked about their handhelds, and then moved on to home consoles, in which he clearly stated that NX is in the future.

Everything Nintendo has said points to the NX being a home console. Face it - the NX is a home console.

Well, right after he said "We're focused on the Wii U home console". I mean it's pretty clear right there. Context is everything here. I doubt he would refer to it at all if it was going to be a handheld or otherwise.

Haha, got beat by @IceClimbers
What they said

@Operative: Or he could have been talking about it because that's all anyone wants to talk to Nintendo about now...

But fine.

@kyuubikid213: he's obviously meaning console. Look it sucks you don't stay on a sinking ship my friend. Next holiday we're probably gonna be seeing a shiny black new Nintendo box on store shelves.

@WebHead: I'm still not convinced NX is going to get a 2016 release. But I do hope it does, and I hope it's sooner rather than later. A July/August launch with a good number of first-party games, including a new Mario and Metroid, would help the NX get off to a much stronger start than the Wii U had.

@Gamer83: I doubt July but I do see a November launch. Especially if it's just a slightly beefier Wii U. I reckon cross gen Zelda and whatever retro studios is making are good candidates for launch day games.

@WebHead: I think they have to get a 3D Mario platformer out for day one as well. If they could get the big 3 there right from the start, there would definitely be very strong early sales momentum. Even moreso if they can manage a $250-$300 price tag. If it's just a slightly spruced up Wii U like you're predicting, then that's the price they should hit at because at least the Xbox One will be down to $300 by next November and the PS4 may have a significant price drop by then as well.

@Gamer83: yeah I wouldn't rule out a $300 xbone being around next holiday. And that's true too. 3 years is probably enough time for a new 3d Mario. Whatever the gimmick is I hope it's simple and practical.

I should point out that if Retro is working on Metroid right now, it is not Metroid Prime. No proper Metroid Prime is currently in development as confirmed by Tanabe.

Nx is a 'platform', that means handheld and home console integrated together in architecture and like brothers. They are not seperately developed like all consoles and handhelds before.

@WebHead: Hopefully there are no gimmicks this time. A $300 Nintendo console that comes packed with an updated version of the Wii U pro controller would be just fine. It will likely be backwards compatible if Wii and Wii U are anything to go by so people could keep their remotes and gamepads. But I want to see Nintendo just go back to basics. I'd prefer a console with quite a bit more power than a PS4, but that doesn't mean a console on par with those two can't succeed. All it needs is a good price, a great day one lineup and excellent marketing like the Wii received in the early days. As cheesey as it was, the 'Wii would like to play' campaign was brilliant. For whatever reason, at least here in North America anyway, it seems Nintendo outright refuses to advertise these days.

@IceClimbers: Ok, so we get a sidescrolling Metroid instead. I'd be fine with that.
