Topic: So many death wishes...

Whilst watching the Nintendo Direct last night (08/ March/ 2018) and seeing all these good news and learning about all these new games (even ports are technically new games if they're ported over to another platform with a new different audience) and I was extremely happy of what Nintendo still has to offer for both 3DS and Switch owners. However, after checking out a bunch of reactions on YouTube and reading a lot of comments, I came to the conclusion that a lot of people in the gaming scene don't want the 3DS to continue living! It seemed odd to me because there's no reason for Nintendo to kill the 3DS yet other than being afraid of it covering the success so far... Obviously the Switch will never be shadowed, and the 3DS will not be competition to the NS. NINTENDO has declared from the beginning that Switch will not be a successor to the 3DS. So please, Switch owner, stop wishing death upon our beloved little system, not a lot of people can afford a >300€ system...

...seems like an odd request. You are asking for people to take into consideration your ability or willingness to purchase something and to tailor their comments around that. Someone could easily say the reverse to you and ask that you stop wishing for the 3ds to continue on. After all not everyone has or wants a 3/2ds. See, goes both ways. Either way Nintendo isn't reading a forum full of consumers and so long as it doesn't violate the TOS of this site people will say what they feel/want.

@tariqyasiin You seem to be misunderstanding my point. Which has nothing to do with sales numbers. Your complaint was that people are "wishing death" upon the 3ds and you find this undesirable because you or other 3ds owners "can't afford a 300 dollar system" and that they should stop doing so. My point is simple, no consumer is under any obligation to take into account the needs or wants of others when making a comment about what they want from a product. That happens if a product sales 2 or 2 million.

So again, what an odd request. Why not simply enjoy the games you are going to buy, talk to others that share your sentiment and so long as others aren't violating the TOS of this site...let people say how they feel without chastising them for it? After all if you don't feel ashamed for not buying the switch (be it lack of funds or interest) correct? So why does it bother you if someone else wants something different than what you want? For good or ill this is an open forum. So people are going to say what they want to see come to Nintendo platforms all day long.

Either way as a company Nintendo will go where the sales avenues are. Simple as that.

Seriously, though, I don't mind the 3DS still being a thing and getting games. It makes sense. It's a big success and is still selling quite good. Plus, nobody could've predicted Switch would be as big a success as it is today. What would they have done if Switch had been another WiiU and 3DS had already been retired? Definitely would've been in trouble. So it does make sense for them to still have some games in the pipeline.

Though I gotta say that I'd be interested in that new Wario Ware title and the Luigi's Mansion remake if it also was on Switch. Haven't played on my 3DS for over a year now.

I have some interest also with Japan Only 3DS games.
I might try to buy Japanese 3DS to play Japanese 3DS games.

I'm one of these people and I have two reasons.

Number 1 is that I have too many consoles and don't want one more. Number 2 is that the 3DS can't be connected to the tv, which is very important to me. So every time a new 3DS game is revealed, I immediately think "well, that's a game I can't buy".

On top of that, the 3DS hardware isn't good enough for the games to look good, but the Switch is. The 3DS games that they showed in the Nintendo direct looked jagged.

But I do understand that Nintendo can't just cancel a console with so many owners. Even the PS Vita still gets new games. In the long run, I would want the Switch to for fill all my gaming needs and I would re-buy games I already own if they come fully on cartridge (no download files) on the Switch.

I kinda think people in this thread are talking about two different things.

Thing number one is comments saying "I don't want Nintendo to make more 3DS games". Although I disagree with this, it's a reasonable position so long as one isn't overly aggressive about it.

Thing number two is comments saying "why are Nintendo still making 3DS games". This is not so reasonable. They're doing something that makes economic sense, whether it would appear to gel with industry norms or not.

@Agriculture the problem is, even if you find that the 3DS isn't for you, you won't just go ahead and start complaining about it getting new games, might as well just play with your Switch and enjoy yourself.

Why the heck you want to display the 240p of 3DS games on big TV ?? It just makes them so Blurry.

I don't mind the 3DS living on but I do mind that it is holding back potential Switch games which it needs to continue to succeed. Could the likes of Luigis Mansion not been released on both??

Probably not without a major overhaul as we are talking about a SD game. It would be easier to put a NGC game on the 3DS as the resolution isn't such an issue.

Sony kept supporting the PS2 well after the PS3 was released, and it's not like the games being released are super high budget titles, mostly ports. And to be fair, developing for an older hardware is a lot cheaper.

If it were for me, Nintendo would be supporting the 3DS until the year 2057.

Don't get me wrong I love the 3DS and I will still buy Luigi's Mansion I just feel like Nintendos biggest problem with getting first party games out often enough was they were developing for handheld and console. I thought unifying handheld and console would help but now it seems the problem is still supporting handheld and hybrid.
