After the announcement of more DLC this is who I think will/want to get in.

1. Akira and Jin (Astral Chain)
2. Rex (Xenoblade 2)
3. Geno (A man can dream right?)
4. Hunter (Monster Hunter)
5. Amaterasu (Okami)

Kind of hard to think of anymore Nintendo characters I could think of. Maybe the octolings could get in as an echo fighter with more costumes and gear for free. That would be really cool!

Travis Touchdown (No More Heroes) I want to see and has a good chance

I think the chances of an Astral Chain character getting in is virtually 0 for a variety of reasons.
1. They likely already picked out or have at least somewhat planned what other DLC characters they want in the game before they made that announcement. Astral Chain just came out a few days ago and they had no idea what the popularity of the game would be.
2. We already have a Platinum representative in the game, Bayonetta.
3. Astral Chain has absolutely no history. It's not currently part of a series of games, and for all we know this game and it's characters could be mostly forgotton within a few years. I really doubt Smash would add something like that. At least Bayonetta is part of a lasting series, and characters who only exist in a single game (like Joker) represent a larger franchise.

There are plenty of other Nintendo characters. The biggest ones I see requested are Isaac from Golden Sun, Paper Mario, Dixie Kong, and Bandana Dee.

Personally I'd like to see either Isaac or Chibi-Robo, athough I doubt the latter will happen at this point.

The existence of Pirahna Plant renders all these logical arguments silly.

Assuming they do a full season two of five fighters?

Goku from Dragonball (Toei Company)
Sol Badguy from Guilty Gear (Arcsystemworks)
Ryu Hayabusa from Dead or Alive/Ninja Gaiden (Koei Tecmo)
Heihachi Mishima from Tekken (Bandai Namco)
Akira Yuki from Virtua Fighter (Sega)

Switch Physical Collection - 1,247 games (as of April 15th, 2024)

@Cynas to be fair I would hardly say that two games is considering "legacy" in addition platinum is known for the quality of their games. With the rave reception and early imp that they received early on I don't see why we couldn't. In addition capcom has 3 reps and square has 2 so who's keeping count?

Definitely too early for Astral Chain.

Kingdom Hearts has only had two games (I think) on Nintendo platforms, but I think Sora still has a good chance of getting in.

My guesses for the last fighter's pass character would be either Sora or Master Chief. But, if I could choose anyone, I'd like for Alex Kidd to get in.

@StephanDLW
I think Alex's play style could be pretty interesting. Maybe most of his moves could be the items from the games and his final smash could be rock paper scissors.

@Matthew010 Kingdom Hearts actually has seen four releases on Nintendo systems:

1. Chain of Memories
2. 358/2 Days
3. RE: Coded
4. Dream Drop Distance

@Chunkboi79 Bayonetta was a bit of a special case considering she was the winner of a fan vote, and even then at least Bayonetta was already an established series with a strong fan base before she was introduced.

My guesses:

3rd party edition:

  • Master Chief (promo for Halo Infinite)
  • Crash
  • a Tekken character
  • Doomguy
  • Sora (if the Kingdom Hearts franchise comes to Switch)/Crono (if the Kingdom Hearts franchise doesn't come to Switch)

1st party edition:

  • Rex & Pyra (both of them which gets around the spirit deconfirmation logic)
  • a character from BotW or BotW 2 (e.g. 1 of the champion's descendants)
  • a Pokemon Gen 8 starter's final evolution
  • Byleth or one of the house leaders from Three Houses
  • Sylux (as Metroid Prime 4 promotion)

It's really tough coming up with 1st party characters if you believe spirits are a deconfirmation.

@StephanDLW Me, neither. The only status that we do not/have never had an example of both being playable and being is the Assist Trophy. There's no reason to believe that having a spirit means a character can't be playable.

@StephanDLW All playable characters have a fighter spirit so if the character is already a usable spirit what will be their fighter spirit if they become a playable character?

So you'd need to think about workarounds.

@StephanDLW Yes, but those were in two different games. Of course it is possible for a character to be an Assist Trophy in one game, but be upgraded in the next. My point is that we've never seen a character coexist as a playable character and an Assist Trophy in the same game.

Spirits we have no reason to believe should be any issue.

@Cynas Regardless, the timing doesn't really concern me either especially since corrin came out on Sm4sh before his/her game was even released. In addition, Bayonetta didn't even meet sales expectations until it hit the switch. Nintendo pulled the franchise onto it's feet and it outsold itself on the switch than what initially did on the Wii u. Shoot with all the amazing press astral chain has gotten it's hard to discount the chance of them getting in. Especially with Nintendo's and platinums relationship right now

@Snaplocket While I would normally agree, I'm on sakurais side in this. His mentality seems to be that they aren't going to get all these rights back together again, so this should be almost a grand finale for smash, and while more games can be made, he won't ever get a chance to have so many different reps all in one game again

Well excuuuse me princess

@Harmonie Oh OK - I thought it was more than 2 KH games, but I couldn't remember. Sora to me is definitely big enough to be added to Smash and has plenty of variety.

I'm assuming the 5th character of the current pass is Ryu Hayabusa.

As for the additional fighters, assuming they do a full second pass:

  • Doomguy
  • Travis Touchdown
  • Sora
  • Dante
  • Master Chief

@Chunkboi79 The only reason why they were able to comfortably pick Corrin before the game released is because he's a Fire Emblem character. If Corrin was part of a brand new franchise I highly doubt we would have seen the same thing happen.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to argue about Bayonetta. She was included in the game due to the fan vote, and she was part of a pre-existing series. Not a brand new series that came out a few days before they announced new DLC characters were coming.

I can see us getting a Mii outfit eventually. If we do end up getting an Astral Chain character in the future, I welcome you to rub it in my face.
