Ya as much as I'd love to play DQXI this year, I want it on Switch. And I told myself some time ago I was done buying games on platforms I didn't really want to play them on but was only buying them out of impatience.
I'll have no shortage of great games to play this year so, Dragon Quest XI will be just as good next year (or whenever it comes) as it would be this year.

Here to reiterate what everyone else is saying: demo is really good and makes me even more excited for my pre-order. Having come from a play through of Nights of Azure 2, this is like night and day in terms of resolution, frame rate and attention to detail.
@scoobdoo I tried NoA2 undocked on a friend's Switch. What a nightmare! I'm not a framerate snob, but it bordered on unplayable for me in handheld mode.
All of SEGA'S Switch games have been great. Perfectly optimized for both modes on the system. I'm really excited to see what else they port to the system.
Also gives me faith that Valkyria Chronicles 4 is going to play beautifully on the system!
Currently Playing: Fields of Mistria (PC); Cookie Clicker (PC); Metaphor: ReFantazio (PC); Overboard! (PC)
The combat felt a little too stiff for my taste and I'm not fond of Kirika's playstyle at all, but I see potential. I don't know, maybe it just takes some getting used to.
@JaxonH (or anyone else really), if you have played both Shining Resonance and Ys VIII, can you tell me which of them would you pick if you had to get just one of them?
They're both appealing to me, but honestly I don't have the time or the money for both so forcing myself to pick one. And normally I just say they can wait until later, but the preorder savings and steelbook on SRR are pushing me to make a choice now.

I thought the demo was awful. The only thing going for is it's looks and doesn't look like a half arsed port. The demo just made it come across as very dull and boring. I wasn't keen on the characters, it felt really slow and the combat just didn't feel good. It's good game to help you fall asleep.
@scoobdoo Interesting, the consensus seemed to be that Ys was better. Would you mind telling me what you like better about Shining Resonance? I'm stil on the fence even though I missed the preorder date (and might not get either of them for a while still - finances are completely shot right now...)

@JasmineDragon for me it comes down to character design and writing — both of which are leaps and abounds above Ys, superior combat, and SEGA did a masterful job with this title on Switch, both docked and undocked.
With Shining Resonance Refrain, Ys VIII, Octopath Traveler, Fallen Legion: Rise to Glory, and The Lost Child all released around the same time - and with Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna, Valkyria Chronicles 4, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, and Tales of Vesperia around the corner, and at least ten more NIS America RPGs this year, plus Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Shin Megami Tensei V, Pokémon, Dragon Quest and more coming next year, I really need to grow 10 more arms and 10 extra eyes and buy 5 more Switches to play them all.
Didn't mention the load of interesting indie RPGs and other genres and games I'd like to play. I'm still hoping for a NeoATLAS physical release here in Europe (Japan has one).
The one game I'm personally most hyped for is RPG Maker for Switch. I think I'm going to preorder it.
Sorry to hear that... MMORPG.com reviewed Shining Resonance and called it stunning, 9/10, meanwhile Kotatu has been increasingly critical of the darling Octopath and its stories that never do intersect @Joeynator3000
Got this game the day it released, but it's become a casualty of YS VIII, Wolfenstein 2, Captain Toad and Octopath Traveller.
Imo, YS VIII is the better game, but by no means do I think Shining Resonance is bad. I really like what I've played and reviews seem to confirm my suspicions. It's basically a decent Tales game with a different combat system (obviously not on the level of the great Tales games like Vesperia), and dragons in the storyline like Fire Emblem. All of which I like.

@JaxonH Yeah, there are too many great games for a merely decent one to succeed right now. SRR might have to wait for one of those droughts I keep hearing about.

A little over ten hours in. Currently in Op 4. I have to say I'm enjoying my time with the game, more than I expected. For a PS3 to Switch ported game, it does look and sound great. It should keep me entertained until Titan Quest releases at the end of the month.
I've jonesing for a proper Diablo clone.
Hey, Blizzard-Activision. How about Diablo III for Switch?
Please?

Many, many hours in and I have to say this is my GOTY as of right now. A stunning achievement on the Switch.
I don't disagree, but I'd imagine Octopath Traveler and SSBU will probably be more memorable as significant 2018 releases for the Switch. However, I'd compromise by saying Shining Resonance Refrain is a nice surprise. Fitting easily on any rpg-loving, Switch owning gamers top ten rpg list. Right up there with Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Darkest Dungeon, Ys VIII, etc.
At least...until Shin Megami Tensei V and Dragon Quest XI arrive in a couple years.
