Looks are one thing I guess, but usually personality ends up being the main reason. It was the #1 reason for me falling for Xiao Pai in 4. >.<

I’m looking at Scarlett but I do agree that the female candidates are not amazing. The whole “I can’t communicate” werewolf lady is especially off putting. I mean if she was like Petra in FE3H and understood better than she could comfortably articulate, then that would be fine; most people have varying levels of communication skills even in their native language. But full on woof woof bow wow? No thanks.

Scarlett seems serious and competent though and I’m a “cold hands, warm heart” kinda gal anyway. Not a fan of the helpless or spoiled brat trope and that’s a auto veto for me.

Serious female characters often get dragged a bit so here’s hoping that they haven’t saddled her with crippling self doubt when not working or gave her some tragic backstory.

@Ryu_Niiyama I was also thinking about Petra — she was my choice in FE:TH because she was independent and had a sense of humour, even if she was learning the language. I think we all can fall into the trap of thinking that people who aren't fluent in a second language aren't smart, but that's rarely the case! Just learning a second language requires intelligence and persistence!

I'm also a "cold hands, warm heart" person — I agree that Scarlett is intriguing. The challenge of making the grumpy person happy is a fun one!

When he met Petra, my brother just assumed the Latin American Spanish localization was bad.

@KateGray Haha, I’m playing as FemByleth so I’m romancing Dorothea since I’m cursed and IS always makes the romances I want have unfortunate implications. (Example: Kamui/Aqua or Byleth/Rhea even Byleth/Sothis -granted I find Sothis to be too fractured personality wise- is messed up) so no Petra romance for me, but I do like her a lot as a person. I wanna kick Eldegard down a flight of stairs.

I don’t see it so much as a serious person is grumpy, just dedicated or focused. However they often have a level of kindness and warmth if one gets past their shell. And if she has a dry but sharp sense of humor all the better. I’m not expecting high literature but I enjoyed the Laura romance in Olive Town so a little more stern or taciturn version of that in RF5 would be up my alley.

I need a LOT more information before I commit, but right now I'm interested in Werewolf Boi, Jekyll and Hyde, Ex-Succubus and Weredogthinggirl.

I'm kind of digging Ludmilla more than anyone else, because I really tend to go for the Scary Woman With A Dark Past and she gives me major Tharja vibes. Also, heart-shaped pupils, come ON.

Fuuka is cute as a button, but yes that's a bit problematic. I'm hoping there is a lot more to her than "hops around and barks". I feel like she may be underestimated like Petra was. But it's really easy to mess up that kind of character, so we'll see.

Whatever Werewolf Boi's actual name is, he's super cute and I love a guy who goes out of his way to help people. Also, I find werepeople massively hot, which is why both those guys are in the running.

And the Luka/Lyka kid is intriguing. He's not my type at all, but I'm interested in finding out his story. Again, the darkness is always calling to me.

Really good selection of candidates for this game, more than any I've played since Stardew. I wish there were a few slightly older women, but it's a really good cast from what I've seen.

@JasmineDragon I agree about Ludmilla! The wiki said she was a "succubus" which raised a few questions, I must admit.

I think Luka/Lyka is getting localised to "Ryker", though I'm not 100% on that!
