EA in August: We are bringing FIFA to the Switch. However, Nintendo players are too stupid to be able to handle all the features.
*Note: I believe there was an EA exec that said they didn't understand the switch or think people would buy it when Nintendo showed it to developers last year. Might be wrong.
I see it as them having to make up a really stupid excuse to hide the real reason, that Sony paid them extra to make the game gimped on Switch.
Actually youre wrong there, if anything it would be MS after all they have the EA pass or whatever its called on Xbox One.
Microsoft's FIFA deals expired last year and Sony straight away picked them up. As for EA Access, Microsoft wasn't the reason it didn't come to PS4. Sony said they didn't want it making up the excuse that it's not good for the fans.
@Octane Kind of, I do believe Sony's been doing dodgy things to further guarantee a monopoly but I don't seriously think this case is one of them. Monster Hunter however, I certainly do think the mess regarding MHXX not being localized and MHW not coming to Switch is Sony related.
@Octane In an indirect sense, yes. Capcom clearly has some deals with Sony regarding MHW otherwise it wouldn't have been at the Sony E3 2017 conference. A MHXX localization would distract people from MHW especially with how well the Switch is doing so not localizing MHXX benefits Sony more than it benefits Capcom.
The only sport game I care about is 1080°, the only EA game I like is Need for speed 4 High stakes for the first Playstation. EA can do whathever they want I would not care anyway. The only thing they could do to have some of my money is a Switch porting of a PS1 game.
I used to be a ripple user like you, then I took The Arrow in the knee
A lot of things go against "logic" though. Why release ME 3 on the Wii U when you're about to release the Trilogy on all the other systems...at a lower price?

I think EA are contracted to put a FIFA game on Switch by FIFA. At least one, has there been a major new platform released that didn't get a FIFA game? Could also be why this is there only game so far. They'll use it as a test. If EA think Switch is so great, why haven't they announced more games? When was this game announced for Switch exactly? And if it does do well then it'll take time for other ports, because that's what we'll get if we're lucky. I don't think they're particularly bothered with Nintendo, despite their BS PR about "unprecedented partnership" and "special relationship".
There is "Fe" but that's an indie game that's being published by EA I think which is different.

Because porting one game is much cheaper than porting three?! It's a sound logic, considering that Mass Effect 3 or Mass Effect Trilogy wouldn't have sold anyway on WiiU. You are just not that kind of audience, deal with it.
It makes as much sense as Nintendo pulling support for WiiU, or killing Miiverse, or make BotW gimped on WiiU, or asking you to pay a fee to transfer VC titles to your new console etcetera - all stuff Nintendo gets away with because it "makes sense", financially speaking. Yet EA does something that makes perfect sense (ie - releasing a quick and casual version of a football game on a platform that doesn't have an audience for football games) and people go nuts.
Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...
I cant help but think the "Difficult" statement is a gripe of the team having little time or staff to make the game they wanted to make. Wouldnt be unusual of EA to just slap some interns of 20 or so people on it.
Now Playing: Mario & Luigi Brothership, Sonic x Shadow Generations

Glad someone finally mentioned this. EA's deal with FIFA obligates them to put a FIFA game on all 'viable' platforms. If they chose not to, another publisher is allowed to utilize the FIFA license on said platform.

So why bother porting in the first place? If you're not interested in a platform, just don't bother instead of half-a**ing it.
It makes as much sense as Nintendo pulling support for WiiU
Except it doesn't. Nintendo tried to support the Wii U for years before finally admitting defeat. Now that the Switch is flying off shelves, there's no economic reason to support the Wii U.
or killing Miiverse
Probably wasn't worth keeping. Nintendo knows a lot more about that than we do.
or make BotW gimped on WiiU
This one is weird to me as well. BotW was going to sell a lot more on Switch anyway. Perhaps those features were not done and they just decided they weren't worth finishing.

Yes well, when you release a port that seemingly has less content, but EA claims otherwise, how do you expect people to react? EA makes bullcrap excuses all the time for some questionable decisions, even outside Nintendo systems. Remember the always online SimCity fiasco?

It's a good thing the only thing I like about EA is The Sims and SimCity series, both of which are awesome, so I don't despise them as much as literally everyone else. I didn't think I'd like Sims 4 though, but it turned out to be much better than I thought.

That's exactly what I'm saying - no economic reason to keep the WiiU alive - fine. No economic reason to waste time and money to port a complete version of FIFA on a console whose audience couldn't care less and actually wished FIFA was an acronym for First Incredible Fantasy Adventure. It's like trying to sell ice to eskimos.
Even if they released the best version in the universe on Switch, it wouldn't sell more than a few thousand copies, making it pointless for both EA and Switch owners, because it's a game that relies heavily on enormous online fanbases.
If you justify Nintendo when their decisions make financial sense, then you have to justify EA because this makes as much sense.
Do I agree with this? Absolutely not. But at least I never agree when Nintendo does something that protects their wallet and hurts the player.

Do you really believe that honestly? The Switch has captivated the entire industry since launch. For you to say it would only sell a few thousand is (excuse my language) hogwash. There are PS4 and Xbox One owners alike who are planning to buy a Switch version of this and NBA 2K solely for portability. There are people are choosing the Switch version OVER their other systems, solely for the portability. I fervently disagree with your claim it would have crap sales, not making it worth it.
