Earlier today a Fifa 18 Dev explained why they held back features from the Switch version of the game. And the excuse is so overwhelmingly crappy I don't know what to say.
"Lazarescu told Eurogamer the team feared the large amount of content might overwhelm Switch players who haven't grown accustomed to all of the features that have been progressively added over the years."
Did they just say a gimped version of the game was presented to Switch owners, because they "didn't want to overwhelm us" with too many features? EA has always set the bar low, but today the bar completely hit the floor. I honestly hope this isn't just EA saying we could have done it, but you guys weren't ready for it. Because if they purposely gimped a game for a perfectly capable console, I'll flip. What are your thoughts on this recent explanation?
I see it as them having to make up a really stupid excuse to hide the real reason, that Sony paid them extra to make the game gimped on Switch.
Ok let's say hypothetically you're correct. 1. I'm pretty sure everyone was under the impression the Switch couldn't handle the features. Why deviate from that when really nobody was making a fuss about it. 2. If they did get paid off, they're a worse company than I originally thought.
People are always going to whine online if they don't get exactly what they want, but this was one of the few PR responses that is actually nonsense instead of just a boring-at-worst rephrase of "yeah sorry we're not doing that yet."
"We couldn't be bothered to go all out for a platform that has only got a few million owners, and who don't have a history of wasting their money on minuscule changes to our annual iterations, so we did this baby, mobile phone version, talked it up, and hope they'll be really grateful since it's the only proper football game on the system."
Please, Konami, please... Don't abandon us... Give us some Evo...
I'll probably get this Fifa anyway. It'll be the best football game on Switch that's not a Neo Geo port...

They're basically saying "we decide what you guys want" and "you're not ready for these modes". It's honestly shocking this is something he really felt fine to say. Furthermore, this is after everyone has been praising EA's "right way" of doing things.
But people don't seem to read what he's said. It is a lie what he said about not wanting to overwhelm Switch owners. The truth is they probably started work on the Switch port very late, the release date can't change, it has to release at the same time as the other versions. So they had to make sacrifices to get it out on time. If EA were really bothered they'd have put a bigger and/or better team working on it.
I also posted another article where he thinks that FIFA 18 on the Switch will be a must have game like Zelda or Mario Kart. Yes, that's right, he put FIFA in the same esteemed presence as Mario and Link.
Pretty awful response tbh. Someone should tell the Nintendo Life peeps to write an article on it. It'll be fun to see the responses.
I told them late Friday night. But this site effectively shuts down at the weekend. There's the odd article here and there. But unless there's something major on, they need their break like the rest of us.
Ehh I mean it was showed off during the January presentation I believe. Just how late did they start on the port for them to be this far behind? Along with the fact we're only missing 1 or 2 modes, how long would it really take to port those over?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I've seen first-hand that people REALLY like FIFA for some reason. Like there were bunches of games available, and this one group decided they wanted to play FIFA. Like, really? Over Smash, Mario Kart, 3D World, Pokken, Jackbox, etc.? I don't get it, but I understand how EA could make such a statement (even if it's totally wrong).
I would have never guessed Weezing was so useful until I played a HeartGold Nuzlocke! My YouTube Channel! Video game related, of course! My Pushmo Levels

Well...
I don't care fifa games.
I only care The Sims franchise from EA.
If they can prove did the Best for fifa 18 Switch, so they must prove the Best for The Sims 4 console version or even The Sims 5.

Why would Sony pay EA to make a bad FIFA on Switch?!
Sony has had the largest FIFA community for years now, it's untouchable. The Switch version wouldn't have been a threat - even if it were a better version. The Switch audience is minuscule at the moment, and most of them wished FIFA was a RPG anyway.
Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

@spizzamarozzi Just have to congratulate you on your good English. Not only have you spelt minuscule correctly, you've also used the correct conditional form "if it were". In other news, of course nobody has paid EA to make a bad Fifa; companies like to make money, and the Switch is fallow ground for football games - one of the most popular genres worldwide (outside the US), and perhaps second only to driving games. However, as the Switch is completely virgin territory and Konami won't put its hat in the ring, EA doesn't need to bring its A game. This will be a B+ effort at best, I suspect - but still be the best on the platform by a country mile. Because, where is the competition?
