Such an awesome announcement today. I have such fond memories of playing this game when I was a teenager especially Quake 64. I am definitely picking up this when I rebuy my Switch.

Anyone else excited to have Quake on the go!!!

I say bring all the boomer shooters to Switch.

I'm all in for a physical copy.

I kind of wish I checked to see if LRG announced anything before I rushed to pick the game up on the eShop, but at least I can still play while I wait half a year for LRG's release to be ready to play... I've only played a little bit so far, but I'm really enjoying Quake! I've played a little bit of it in the past, but otherwise, I'm new to the series. Being someone who got really into Doom these last few years though, I do really enjoy how much this does feel like classic Doom in 3D. I know that the new remaster polished the visuals and all, but it's still insane to think this just came 2.5 years after the original Doom.

That being said, the one enemy type giving me a lot of trouble already is the giant white monster that electrocutes the player. I'm not sure if there's a trick to dealing with them when there isn't any cover to duck behind, I get fried pretty quickly by them.

@VIIIAxel That's a Shambler Get in close so they try to use their melee attack, reverse out of the way and then rinse and repeat. There's a fair bit of a wind up in the attack so it shouldn't take too long to get the timing down. It's also worth noting that they only take 50% damage from explosive weapons, which you wouldn't want to use up close anyway, so I'd recommend using the super nailgun to deal with them.

@VIIIAxel I'm pretty excited to play this since I'm also a big late fan of the original Doom, so hearing it's similar in design is good to hear.

I'm finding it amazing that a developer is at last supporting mods on switch.

Too bad there is still no mod support for Skyrim.

I have memories of playing this back in 1996 as a wee 10 year old! My bro who was 5 years older than me was very much a PC first person shooter kind of guy and this was his mecca.

I enjoyed the game back then but was too young to really enjoy it and complete it. The year after Goldeneye came out and that was my first person shooting fix until Perfect Dark. Not really a FPS guy like my bro but I may have to get involved…

Saw a video of somebody playing it and I remember the difficulty ‘hub world menu’ and the first level like it was yesterday…

I've played it for s good few hours now. Superb game. I'm also new to the Quake series and have spent countless hours playing through all the classic Doom's and Duke Nukem on Switch. I did play the original Doom on 32X back in the day but I never made it far, so most of it was new to me. It feels great to have a similar style game in different world. The weapons really pack a punch, especially with HD Rumble turned up to Max. The gyro controls are brilliantly implemented too. It feels super satisfying taking baddies out from high with a rocket using gyro.

I've been playing on hard difficult and dying a lot. Not sure if I should reduce it or stick with it.

One thing that's annoying me. I wish you you'd toggle run/walk on or off. You can set always run on or off in the options but to walk you need to keep the left stick pushed in.

I have two questions I can’t quite confirm about split-screen co-op in this game.

  • Does Quake Remastered on Nintendo Switch support 4-player split-screen co-op? I’ve seen some report that it does, but others say that it’s limited to 2-player split-screen in co-op, and requires online to do up to 4 players in co-op.
  • Does Quake Remastered allow players to simultaneously play split-screen co-op and online co-op? In other words, can two players play split-screen on one device, while simultaneously another player joins their game via online connection on a different device?

I would greatly appreciate if someone can answer these questions for me!

@Dogtanian Thanks for the tip! I'll keep that in mind the next time I play. I realized that strategy seems to work with the Orcs as well, but I didn't realize the Shamblers had melee attacks as well since I try to keep my distance.

@JoyBoy If you enjoy the classic Doom games, I'd say you'll probably enjoy Quake as well! As much as I enjoy Doom 3 for what it is, Quake feels more like a 3D follow-up to the first two Dooms than Doom 3 did in my opinion. The setting and art style are different, but the classic gunplay and tight level design are absolutely still there.

So I ended up buying this for £7.99 the other night. Near the end of episode two I think. Really enjoying myself. Playing on easy though, because I’m crap at FPS games. Getting better though, so can’t wait to challenge myself more with a run through on a tougher difficulty once I’m done.

I would suggest remapping Run to ZL or L. Works perfectly for me since by default your left index finger is left unused.
