Most people wouldn't buy a system unless it has a decent library. If they were honest, I think a lot of Wii U owners would not have bought one if they had known ahead of time what the library would eventually look like. They did buy one though, and are invested in defending that decision.
Imagine if certain movies had only been released on HD DVD. It would be pretty selfish (and monumentally stupid) to tell people they shouldn't be asking for those movies on bluray because if they wanted to see them they should have bought the doomed HD DVD drive.
I owned a Wii U and bought every Nintendo first party game released for it, and I would love it if they ported more of the library to Switch.
Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario Maker, Starfox Zero, Kirby's Rainbow Curse, Donkey Kong Country TF, Super Smash Bros... anytime anywhere, yes please.
If Nintendo wasn't already doing this along with older multiplat games, the Switch line up would be a desert. I think the more the merrier whilst Nintendo and others get some great Switch exclusives together!
@Shellcore Been saying this for a while! Beneath those awful controls is a good game. LOL!
I'd also like to see Fatal Frame make its way over. Tokyo Mirage Sessions would be good, too. If it doesn't see a Switch release, I'll never play it. My Wii U has been retired to the closet. Also Wonderful 101, though I'm sure that's been requested already.
I'm a Wii U owner and I kinda agree that porting some of the games over to Switch isn't the worst thing. Porting does take time and money, but we all know doing so is not nearly as expensive or time consuming as creating a whole new game is. Besides, having those same games now be 100% portable can only be a good thing. I'm looking at you Super Smash Bros!
I can see why other Wii U owners would be irritated though. If the games are ported over, there will literally be no more reason to have bought/play a Wii U and that's not the point Nintendo should be making to its consumer base. Just because Switch is popular, doesn't mean Wii U's grave needs to be any deeper (with profanity scrawled across its tombstone!). Not to mention, playing them once prior means Wii U owners have one less game to play on Switch, despite having been a supporter of Wii U and that too is salt on the wound.
Personally, I'd say a few select games are okay to bring over - but not the whole library. If you want to play Wii U games, you should have bought a Wii U. Demanding them on Switch, however, is not the way to go. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones in that what kept me happy on my Wii U was three main games: Smash, Bayonetta 2 and Splatoon. With Splatoon 2 already being a thing and Bayonetta 3 on their way, it doesn't even feel like I've been conned into buying a failure console. I've got true sequels that will give me the same amount of enjoyment as their previous entries and it's guilt-free on my love for the Wii U. All that needs to come over is Smash in some form or another and I'll never look at another console again. And we all know that's coming at some point.
So yeah, I'm a happy.
Never take anything I say seriously. S'all you buddy. ;)
Mainly play on my Switch but I have 3DS, Wii U and PS4 as well.
Fave game series include: Pokemon, Smash Bros, Splatoon, Disgaea, Bayonetta, Dragons Dogma, Phantasy Star & Arena of Valor.
If there are wounds it's just a fault of Wii U itself. I am a huge Wii and Gamecube fan, I have many great games for those two consoles and I have already played them and that's why I would like to have them on Switch, because I know how great and exciting they are and I can't wait for an excuse to play them again!
Those who complain about people who haven't bought a Wii U (and to tell the truth I bought one, I almost never used it because it was crap) are just angry for the money they spent on such a failure and want to punish the whole world for how bad Wii U was. A bad console leaves bad feelings and people affected by bad feelings tend to want to see others punished for not having made their mistakes.
Gamecube and Wii (the first one) left me only excitement and immense joy and it would be one of my biggest dreams to see all their games alive again on Switch, for me, for all the people who already played them and want to do it again and for those who have never tried them and don't even imagine what they are missing
I would hope for Tokyo Mirage Session since that's the only one I hope from Wii U, the Xenoblade series I'm unsure on, but TMS! It just looks so coooooool.
But even if it's not ported, I don't mind, I still have tons of games to play xD
Wii U had plenty of (mostly) amazing (initially) exclusive games, in many genres. Project Zero 5, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, those are a few I'd buy again on Switch. I'd add Pikmin 3, but I'd rather see that Pikmin 4 they were talking about. Bayonetta 2 is already on my list. Gamecube and Wii had great -criminally overlooked- titles I'd get portable without second thought.
Then again, if it never happens, I still have them and enjoyed them as they were, and if it DOES happen, it still wouldn't mean my Wii U was a pointless purchase, as I really liked the system and its games back when they originally released. And I have plenty to play, and other things to do as well.
@FragRed "It kinda is. It takes away resources that could otherwise be used to flesh out the Switch with new titles." Wasted resources they'll get back. You're acting like Nintendo put a lot of effort in these ports, they haven't. They just added some new things and called it a day. Also these ports aren't for Wiiu owners.Their for people who never had that console, which is a lot of people!
@JayJ I'll say it again cause you didn't understand it the first time. These ports aren't hurting no one.
The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
@LuckyLand There is a much larger amount of years in between the GCN and Wii now than there is to the Wii U. Wii U games are still fresh on the minds for those of us who owned one. Most of the Wii titles and all of the GCN titles are nearly or well over a decade old. I mean, Super Mario Sunshine was released over 15 years ago, while Super Mario 3D World was released only about 4 years ago.
All of you all and saying the Wii U was a "crap" console. I disagree whole-heartedly. As a console, I'll take the Wii U over the Wii any day. The Wii U wasn't perfect, but the games on it were of a higher quality than on the Wii, Friend Codes were minimized underneath Nintendo Network IDs (which is something that Nintendo went back on with the Switch. Really frustrating), and forced motion controls were greatly reduced on the system. The Switch has taken that a step further, but the Wii U deserves some credit. On the Wii you couldn't even past the main menu to open up a game without using the Wii Remote and its motion control. It was so aggravating.
Plus, the Wii U went out with a bang with Breath of the Wild, the best game (IMO) that Nintendo has produced since I was a child. Sure it was also released on the Switch, but it was developed for the Wii U. So I will always credit it more to the Wii U. (I also credit Twilight Princess to the GCN for the same reason.)
Unlike what you think, I don't regret spending my money on the Wii U. Sure it collected dust at times. But the Switch will inevitably collect dust, too. Especially since so much of what Nintendo is releasing for it are just Wii U ports.
I'm just saying... If you didn't buy a console, you aren't entitled to its games. You can HOPE that Nintendo will port some of the titles over... But to have entitlement over it ("I chose not to buy a Wii U, so you need to port ALL of its games over to the system I did buy!") is just absurd. I understand the Switch is more appealing with its complete portability, but the Wii U is fine as a console, too.
@Harmonie well said. Totally agree. I'm still finishing off games from my Wii u and I still buy them (Great time to buy games for Wii u) even tho I have a switch.
We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.
The best selling 'current gen' game is a last gen port (GTAV) - and it's not alone..
Destiny? ..last gen port
Minecraft? ..last gen port
Skyrim? ..last gen port
In fact, when you glance at a total software sales chart for your chosen current gen system, you'll struggle to find many truly original titles in the list - whether we like it or not, we live in an age of ports/remasters/remakes/re-releases and re-hashes! ..and because the WiiU didn't sell very well, it only makes its software even more ripe for the picking I'm afraid
The Switch will be drowning in ports (if it isn't already) ..just like every other console on the market
I'd love to get Pikmin 3 and Paper Mario Color Splash ports. Don't own a Wii U but would buy those two in a heartbeat.
The architecture of the two systems is pretty different, a lot of it probably depends on what engines were used to develop the games and if Nintendo has already done the groundwork to allow said engines to compile directly to Switch native code; otherwise I imagine the process is quite expensive. Wii U is PowerPC + AMD GPU, Switch is ARM.

Honestly I'm baffled at how many people considered the WiiU "crap" while admitting it had a great library of games worth porting over. Isn't the quality of a console defined by its library of games?!
If people thought the WiiU had so many excellent games, why didn't they buy one when it was out?
Now people are begging Nintendo to release games they deliberately chose not to play 4 years ago. This is some serious schizoidism right there.
Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...
@Harmonie I agree with your opinion of the Wii U. A lot of people are judging it based on its hardware concept, which admittedly wasn't too great. But the games were amazing. Sure, less great games than Wii, but IMHO there is higher quality in the Wii U game library than the Wii's. Splatoon alone was mind-blowingly amazing and worth the price of admission alone. A much more polished and better Smash and Mario Kart compared to Brawl and MKWii, BotW better than Skyward Sword or the waggle-infused Wii version of Twilight Princess, and IMHO 3D World was better than either Galaxy. Wii U's gimmick wasn't great, added extra unnecessary cost, and was occasionally shoehorned into games, but at least it wasn't as intrusive and quality-damaging as the Wii motion controls were in all of the games they were shoehorned into.

Thank you, I don't get it either. I've no issues with wanting ports of the most popular games but asking for floodgates when there is/was a perfectly viable system with those games in an existing library that was on the market for 4 years is ...odd.
