Hi there people, I was wondering which game I should get, street fighter 2 or wait for pokken . I haven't played any of the other games from each series so I just don't know which one to get. Thanks
Street Fighter is over priced for what it is and I'd go for Pokken, however they are different types of fighting games and you should go for the type you prefer.
It'd be hard to argue Pokkén isn't the more worthwhile product. Street Fighter 2 is a classic and something every gamer should play at some point, but the Switch version is pricey compared to other ways of playing it and doesn't do too much to justify it. It doesn't seem to have garnered much enthusiasm, which is itself an issue if you want to find players.
As for how gameplay differs? Street Fighter 2 is hardcore old-school stuff, where you can decimate an opponent in one combo if you're super good. It controls as you'd expect for a fighting game, having set the standard for the genre.
Pokkén is an easier and more forgiving game. There are no complex inputs - everything is just a button and direction - and the game mechanics limit combo damage. That's not to say it can't be intense, of course, since you're always playing mindgames in any fighter. There's also a big emphasis on projectiles, especially with characters like Gardevoir and Braixen. I enjoy this, but it may be offputting if you're the sort of person who hates nothing more than struggling to get past fireball spam.
