Finished the game and got most of the mon. It's one of the most broken and unfinished AAA games I've ever played. It's an embarrassment to be honest. I think the game hard crashed five of six times on me, amd that's unheard of. Visually it's garbage, at least the environments, even Legends looked better. Cutscenes are stiff and slow. And there are aomw glaring omissions from previous games. I'm absolutely baffled. Breeding is more tedious so far. I'll dapple in competitive for a bit, but I'm afraid it will be dominated by Paradox mon and the sub-legends. I kinda liked how Sword and Shield didn't have a ton of exceptionally strong mon to dominate the metagame. So I expect the competitive scene will be brief for me.
Just finished the game and thought I'd share my feelings.
I really enjoyed it. Sure, the game is unpolished, the open world often somewhat barren, battles can be slow, and I wish they'd do more with the cities and give us more dungeon-like areas. I also wish they took a few more nods from Legends Arceus.
But I loved the freedom offered by the open world, and the general gameplay loop of exploring, catching Pokemon, defeating titans / taking down Team Star bases / defeating gym leaders. Plus Let's Go mode is a game changer.
Most of all, I really loved the story and characters this time round. It wasn't anything mind-blowing, and often in the past I've found Pokemon storytelling to do more harm than good (see: the intrusive story-telling of Sun/Moon, or the utter nonsense that is Sword/Shield) but this is arguably my favourite story-telling in the whole series. This is especially because of how it subverted my expectations for a Pokemon game - particularly with e.g. Team Star and the final beats of the story. It actually makes me excited for Pokemon stories moving forward, which is something I thought I'd never say.
All-in-all...I think this is the best experience I've had with Pokemon since the games went 3D.
Game is getting a proper patch, and yet people are still complaining. Nintendo acknowledged the performance issues, and even if this patch doesn't fix them, a later patch probably will, and yet people on social media and in the article comments are acting as if it's not even going to happen. There's really no pleasing the fans of this series.

@Kermit1Pineapple They really are. I despise most of the pokemon fans at this point, since even if they get what they want, they're never content. They're ravenous and hungry for more and more, making more demands, and acting as if nothing is ever good enough.

I finally got a real game bug! And it was adorable. I wish I had captured it. My Meowscarada was 100% inside a large goat-covered rock (you couldn't see it at all) and it just occasionally batted one paw out of the rock and disintegrated a goat.
@VoidofLight and the Pokemon company are trying their darndest to deliver to them. I feel bad for the game devs that work sleepless nights looking at a giant Pikachu.
@EaglyTheKawaiiShika
At least Gamefreak needs to learn from Level-5 from their Yokai Watch games on PS4.
You can see Yokai Watch 4++ environments and camera angle are way much better than Pokemon Scarlet / Violet.
It was shame to see the unpopular games like Yokai Watch did better than recent Pokemon games.
@VoidofLight Don't count your chickens before they hatch. We'll see if it ''fixes'' the game. Whenever a big patch is announced for a broken game like this, it barely manages to address the most common issues, and often introduces new bugs. The game isn't magically going to be perfect.
@Pizzamorg They're probably going to patch out the Pokemon and item duplication glitch. I don't expect any improvements to the game itself.
Ah the good old fashioned immediate patch for something that benefits the player, while the game still remains in an awful state. I am so glad Gamefreak only took on the worst practices of a Live Service.
@Pizzamorg I mean any duplication glitches in Pokemon games usually lead towards disaster (remember the s***show that was BDSP's?) so getting rid of that ASAP is pretty good in my book.
They definitely should've done more for a first patch though, wholeheartedly agree on that front.

@Octane Well, Nintendo acknowledged the performance issues, so if they don’t fix them with a later patch, it will look bad on them. They have to fix it now, maybe not with this patch, but a future one.

Don't hold your hopes up. Legend Arceus actually had help from Nintendo's BOTW dev team, but these aren't going to help now with Scarlet/Violet, when they themselves have more than enough on their plate to get BOTW 2 ready for release.
So I don't think Nintendo is going to take any risks on that front.
Game Freak doesn't have the competence themselves to fix this. That much should be obvious and clear to everyone.
So yeah. I am very curious how Nintendo is going to deliver on this promise. I would not be surprised in the slightest if we have to wait till after BOTW 2 has gone gold, before they can free up the needed devs to send over to Game Freak. Which is a long way out.
Just beat the Elite 4 and Champion there and holy f*** what a rush. I went in considerably underleveled and god did it make scraping through each of the trainers by the skin of my teeth an utter rollercoaster (my Lokix lived on 1 against Hassel's Baxcalibur and then proceeded to KO it with a Tera-boosted Lunge and I've never popped off harder in my life). Certainly not the hardest Elite 4 I've ever taken on (BW/BDSP easily take that crown) but definitely one of my personal favourites in terms of characters and feeling.
Also GODDAMN THIS SONG GOES SO F****** HARD

I think that guy was referring to the rumor of staff from Monolith working on Legends Arceus, but if you go to the Monolithsoft website and check the list of games they've worked on, they don't have Legends up there. Therefore they didn't actually work on the game. Monolith is the "Zelda team" this guy claims, since they worked on BotW.
