@Harmonie : That's my biggest criticism with the game. It isn't even a "reimagining" of Kanto. It's just the Game Boy Kanto, 1996 design constraints and all, but in 3D (and HD). And it's byfar the least interesting and varied of the Pokémon regions, again, owing to the limitations of the Game Boy hardware. It's frustrating as hell that a game with less content than Pokémon X & Y (from 2013) is being sold as a full priced home console game in 2018.
Quite frankly, I would have much rather preferred a port of Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon instead.
Porygon did nothing wrong.

@Buizel Assumptions based on everything they've said about this being 151 only, just Kanto and no other regions, two player possible with what is effectively a standard control layout on the System.
I would be pretty disheartened to see a remake of Pokemon Yellow have objectively less content than a remake of Red and Green from the GBA. They added in a whole 7 islands to explore.
This game, from everything they've said, including Moltres on the map by Victory Road, so on so forth, tells me what we are getting is Kanto, from Yellow, and that's it. A 20 hour RPG, with half of the core gameplay removed in favour of throwing balls and praying (Legendaries are gonna be fuuuuuun), and an hour at best of post-game content involving Mewtwo, which again, amounts to one short dungeon since maps aren't being changed at all besides Cycling Road, and again, throwing balls and praying.
And they want £50. I thought XY was light on the old post-game but to go back to this where this is ONE thing to do after beating the game, and just ONE new area, is incredibly poor.
Generation 7 could have ended with a bang. You know, Team Rocket and the other villains returning, new Pokemon mid-generation, more content, 400 Pokemon in the game, a final event Pokemon in Zeraora....but instead it ends with the whimper of a game from 1998 (2000 here in the EU) but it's now HD and with half of the series staple removed.

@Buizel I find it more interesting than Johto and Kalos. That's just on structure though, I seriously dont like how uneven Johto is and how cramped it feels when the game "Opens" after the 4th Gym leading to yoyo difficulty, and Kalos has the worst pacing I've seen in an RPG. Hours of filler early on and then breakneck to the end while trying to squeeze the villains in literally at random.
Kanto manages to be, while yes basic, interesting to explore. The open ended nature is handled better than the weird difficulty of Johto and its pace feels just right for the number of locales you visit.

@redd214: Dual versions in Pokemon games are more or less the same, the only differences are exclusive Pokemon (which encourages trading) and occasionally some plot changes and small aesthetic changes, but I don't expect there to hardly be any differences in these games besides the exclusive Pokemon. Both games are based off the the original Pokemon Yellow version for the Game Boy.
Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet DLC, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)
In the case of these games, I'd say the starter will make both versions rather different from each other.
It's an interesting use for the dual version format.
Also I bet they made the rival friendlier because he will likely take Pikachu in the Eevee version, and you can't have a borderline-antagonist using the series mascot.
I think the special Pokemon will be a reward from Professor Oak for collecting the 151 Kanto Pokemon as a reason to keep playing after catching Mewtwo in Cerulean Cave.
@Knuckles-Fajita USUM wasn't really a bang either. It was a copy/paste of a game we'd played a year ago with nothing to really justify dumping another $40 into it. 7th gen went out with a slow burn more than a bang.
So I guess I'll start with Let's Go Pikachu, since he seems to be the mascot and everything. And how often do you get to play a Pokémon game where your starter is Pikachu, right?
I'm really loving the capture mechanic. Not that I'm opposed to the traditional games' way of doing things- I'll certainly be looking forward to the main entries that arrive next year as well. But this is a slightly different type of experience and I really love where they're going with it. I like the gyro for aiming and actually throwing the poke ball to capture. I was watching a video and I guess there's mechanic where you might have to aim in a certain place or hold a button or get timing correct or something like that- basically it's not an automatic catch just because you throw the ball, at least that's what I gathered anyways.
I also love the HD graphics. Finally. One of the biggest reasons I struggled to get into Pokémon before was because I tried late into the 3DS lifespan when I was kind of becoming disillusioned with the lo-res screen and visuals. The nice, crisp HD of Let's Go just looks fabulous.
I'm also really excited to experience the first Pokémon game. Since, as I said before, I never got into this series as a kid. And while a part of me really wants to go back and play the classics that I missed such as the original Pokémon Yellow, I just never get around to it because it's hard going back to a Gameboy game. So this is a perfect way for me to experience the game that started it all while still enjoying modern HD graphics, cool controls, and for the first time ever, it can be played on a home console. But the best part about that is it's not stuck on a home console. You can play on your TV when you're home, but when it's time to go (Let's Go!!!) you're not tied down either. And that's really important to me because I have a feeling a couple of guys at work are going to be playing this, and I guess trading Pokémon is kind of a big thing (or so I've heard), so maybe we'll end up wanting to trade Pokémon during shift change.

What's to stop you putting the other Joy-Con in your other hand, holding it like you normally would, giving a shake and then boom, instant two player to snap the game in half?
Why would anyone want to do that, though? From what I've gathered, people are saying Pokémon games are too easy to begin with. Sure, you could do that and make the game even easier but I'm sure the same thing could be done in many other games, yet no one does.
...and an hour of staring at Mewtwo while you try to throw balls at it because you dont battle wild Pokemon anymore.
Actually, the trailer with Jessie & James also showed the legendary birds and how the trainer was attacking Zapdos with Pikachu. Seems like legendary battles work like normal which makes sense.
If wild battles are already programmed in, I don't know why the same mechanic couldn't be applied to wild battles as well. I'd like the option to switch between the two wild battle types or better yet, combine them, but I guess we'll just have to get used to no wild battles with this game.
@Tsurii No, it wasnt a complaint. Mearly an observation. Just found it a bit funny that Gen 1 is a game that can be repeatedly broken in half. Be it Psychic types or forcing 2v1 matches XD
Personally I dont care. Again, mearly a humourous observation.

@Tsurii Well I am probably going to have to change how the selection process for Nuzlockes works for this game. List all the possible encounters, roll a dice with even weighting and dwcide an encounter that way since we can now see them before hand.
Problem is Id have to catch a Water or Grass type early.

@Knuckles-Fajita How about catch a water / grass pokemon early, then just not use it (and throw it out once you are done with the gym) so it's not counted in the rules?
i liked the idea of Jessie and James coming back from yellow to lets go. and the fact the player can be customized is pretty great, but not at all surprising. i'll still get it, just not feeling that it's sold on me day 1, yet.

I think I'll buy it, we're finally getting Kanto in 3D (not the mixed 2D/3D in Gen 4) and it looks really fun! I'm just not sure how long it will last, it seems like a game that will be short and not have much post game.
I've never cared about Smash though so it's pretty much the only first party game for me until 2019...
