Eh, I think the nobles are pretty cool conceptually, even if they are technically pretty easy. Their value is more in the gameplay variety and spectacle more than anything - the real challenge of this game comes from exploration, resource management, and completing the Pokedex. I don't agree that the ability to not use your Pokemon is a downside because...why wouldn't you use your Pokemon?

I'm about halfway through the game now and thought I'd do some backtracking...which is getting pretty tiresome. Anyone else wish that, as you levelled up, lower level Pokemon would stop being aggressive? It's quite annoying that, with level 40 Pokemon a 6-star rating, I'm still having to sneak up on and/or battle level 10 mons.

I think the whole progression loop needs reworking, to be honest. I think the idea of a Pokedex you level up through challenges leading to specific rewards is a good concept. Like if you love a certain type of Pokemon, levelling up it's entry to get a better chance at Shiny or a well rolled one or an Alpha or whatever is a cool idea.

But the way the game is built around this makes the game unnecessarily tedious at times. I also think the points awarded are far too throttled, you'll complete like 45 tasks and get like 500 points and as you get to the post story levels you need THOUSANDS to level up, I cba with this grind.

One of the post game/post first final boss legends is actually my favourite boss fight. It's the one with
Cresselia where they make the controls go backwards, it's not the most epic event ever but it did raise a smile on me when playing it.

Yeah that one was pretty fun, and that one with the fire barrier, oh man that kicked my ass the first time and I lost a bunch of items for the first time. I figured out what I needed to do after I died, but there was like no warning before that thing had me pinned against the wall lol weird there is more repercussion for failure here than any Noble fight.

@Pizzamorg Eh, to me they kinda took a part of the fun out of the game. They took the survivalist aspect away, and stripped it down to an arcade version of monster hunter. Still a good game, but I wish they’d go back to the more challenging stuff like harder hitting monsters, hot and cold drinks, and having to track the monsters instead of instantly going over towards them.

I dunno. Guess we'll agree to disagree. I hated all that stuff. We'll have to see if Sunbreak adds that stuff back in. I hope they don't.

@Pizzamorg It's just a honest opinion. It's not like there's likes or anything to gain from it so no idea of what karma you are talking about, but it may be something that you care about if you mention it. I also don't need to put you in my Ignore List.

@Buizel Wouldn't that affect the game in a negative way? From what I see Pokemon are pretty much all there is aside from resources. Then again maybe weaker pokemon are just an annoyance and not fun to fight at that point I suppose.

@Snatcher Would you put it among the best games on the franchise? Considering that it seems to be selling pretty well, there's a good chance that we'll see a sequel.

Just playing devils advocate but what if they don't? The thing is any Pokemon game always sells well, like the bare bones remakes DP sold 14m copies in 2 months. Whilst Legends took all of the might of Game Freak to make this game rather than what they usually do having around 3ish teams making games at any time so perhaps Legends ends up being less profitable in terms of a one-on-one project level and on a production level like say if Legends sells 30m which is still less than 3 game that sell 15m using the same resources.

Yeah I feel like almost more than any other, the Pokemon series is so warped, it is almost impossible to gauge any game. Almost every Pokemon game reviews and sells gangbusters because there are like a billion people out there that just want to catch the Icecream with a face on it and aren't sweating all the small stuff. But then you go into a discussion about say Sword and Shield where people act like it's the worst game ever made and it is like... oh boy. And then Gamefreak seem to look at this fuzzy grey mess, shrug their shoulders and then just start all over again with the next title and go through it all again.

They are sort of innovation proof, because no matter what they do, it seems like it'll piss off some fans, but review well, sell bonkers and still appeal to the bulk casual audience that they actually probably care about most. Rather than Tommyfallenangel69 telling everyone the real focus of Pokemon should be the competitive online battling scene as the 30 somethings are the real audience all along.

I think anyone hoping this is the future of the franchise probably shouldn't hold their breath, until or if a sequel is both genuinely announced and shown to be just like this game is.

@jump That's true, I remember hearing rumours about this game and it was suposedly in development even before gen 8 or something like that. I just hope that they at least consider implementing some of the things that were praised in PLA on the main entries and expand on them. If I had to bet though, I think that the game will sell well enough to guarantee at least one sequel.

The problem is that areas are already pretty dull to revisit once you've first explored them (considering you've seen most of the Pokemon already), but are additionally tedious because you still have to apply the same strategy that you were applying earlier in the game when you first encountered these Pokemon. Why not at least get rid of some of the tedium? Then at least it would just be dull.

Has anyone here has ever had their lost bag returned to them? I've returned like 30-40 so far just to build up merit points for items but I've not had one of mine returned yet

@jump I've lost one bag so far, and it took 5 days for someone else to find it. I'm not surprised though, I feel like most players don't go out of the way to pick up the bags. People who want to complete the pokedex probably will to buy the evolution materials they need, but I'm assuming the majority of players ignore them.

Don't you need to have NSO for that? The bags you have collected are just NPC generated ones, or at least mine are. They all have the same names.

@Buizel Thankfully I haven't really ran into that issue yet since I skipped a lot of late game sidequests and Pokemon due to getting so invested in the story that I made a more or less beeline for story progression. Also, the rifts having more Pokemon like Rowlet and Oshawott is pretty handy as well.
I did get tag-teamed by a Drapion and Magmar in said rift, making me lose all of my Comet Shards and Nuggets as well but hey what can you do?

@Cynas The items you can get with merit points are things like metal coat, linking cords etc which are ones you can't buy in the game. There's the odd chance you might get them through requests/timey wimey space zone otherwise it makes sense to pick them up as you go along.

@jump Yeah I always pick up the bags myself for that reason, but actually I haven't really needed to use my points yet. I've gotten most of my evolution materials from time-space distortions or quest materials, and most of the evolutions that require those materials you can already find in their final forms as Alphas somewhere on the map.

@Cynas I've lost 2 bags after both misjudging a fall with Wyrdeer and getting tagteamed by a Drapion and Magmar in a rift and nobody's picked them up. AM I NOT LOVED.

I've lost about 6/7 bags so far, it's always either because I fell too high on a ridable poke or it's I'm in the timey wimey rift and I've spent too long scrolling through my pokes to get the right one but I'm been attacked already.

@VoidofLight
The difficulty of Rise was only lessened for the offline Village Quests to be more accommodating toward new players. The Hub was basically on par with base game of World in terms of difficulty. Especially now as more Event Quests are dropping that are absolutely wrecking fools left and right.

Going from a full G rank version MH to a base game that tops out at high rank is always going to feel much easier, because your skill level acclimated to much higher damage and faster attacks. Once Sunbreak releases it will be on par with Iceborn.

As for the preparation, I liked some of that stuff, but Rise is a different flavor of MH designed for portable play and I love it. The next MH can go ham on all that tedium, but Rise really streamlines the experience. World got rid of Hot Drinks, Rise got rid of Cold drinks. Imo, both were needlessly tiresome and just yet one more thing you had to constantly consume in addition to health potions, well done steaks and rations, demondrugs, armorskins, antidotes, etc etc. Having to eat a steak every few minutes and then having to drink a hot/cool drink every few minutes with the timings misaligned was just dreadful. I don't miss them in the slightest.

The tracking, I'll admit I enjoyed. I didn't at first but I grew to appreciate the scoutflies. But that's just not the type of game MH Rise is. And, not everyone will appreciate that, just like not everyone appreciated the scout flies. And that's fine. Personally I like both approaches. It doesn't have to be mutually exclusive. I enjoy tracking when it's a massive confusing labyrinth but when it's taking a more old world approach, I enjoy getting right into the action.

@JaxonH World got rid of Hot Drinks? Well, they added it back in Iceborne though, if my memory serves me right. These things are so small though, they rarely diminish the fun of the game or maybe it is because i am only into the series after World, you are more of a veteran though, right? Man, I was promised the story got better in the post game. The first major development is a contextless, out of nowhere, "IT WAS ME AUSTIN" style heel turn of such laughable execution I am convinced people are trolling me now.

Life to the living, death to the dead.

VoidofLight

@jump Actually, Legends wasn’t made by all of gamefreak’s might. It was made by a separate team full of the younger devs.

VoidofLight

@Pizzamorg Nah, the story got better. They actually built up to the character being a villain this time around. It was pretty well foreshadowed for a pokemon game.
