I am trying the Demo but Pikachu keeps running out of food? Where do you find food at?
Apples might randomly spawn as item pickups, or they may not. The starvation mechanic is there to discourage you from staying in the dungeon and power-leveling your characters.

I hope they keep the gen 4 representation from the original games. There were some, and while I would be happy for any new content, I hope these particular things are still in the games. I found them really cool as a kid
Has anybody tried the demo and tried using the base attack instead of the moves? I couldn't understand how to do it. I remember that base attacks were fundamental to save move PPs for higher floors.
I played the one on the 3ds back in the day, didn't like it very much. tried the demo just now, and yeah, still not a fan. maybe people have nostalgia for this game, idk... and it's at full price. like someone in the thread said, this was probably gonna be a 3ds game, they've just pulled the project out of a dusty drawer somewhere and said f it, port it to the switch. the animation is horrendous.
They've been phasing it out already, so it makes sense that now that you can freely switch between your team mates, and max elixirs are plentiful, they don't see it as needed.
Er, it’s a roguelike. Not much else you can do with step-by-step movement. Furthermore, too much animation would actually risk confusing the player. The movement needs to be legible.
Personally, I think this game looks tremendous. Possibly one of the prettiest games on Switch. (Purely subjective - don’t hate me. Not for that, anyway!) No way was this ever a 3DS project, or not in any way that matters. This is a Link’s Awakening level of remake.
I mean its hard to say for 3DS games. Most 3DS games look worse than this, but there are moments on some games where outside of the huge difference in being 720p or 1080p on Switch instead of whatever 3DS was, most people wouldn't be able to tell. And this is like a B tier release, so no one was expecting it to look as good as like the recent Mario games (especially after the Switch Pokemon releases, hurhur).
I think it looks good enough, but outside of the amazing background art style, I would never consider it close to Link's Awakening.
I like the general direction the art style is going for, but there's so much vibrancy in the color palette the intended crayon coloring looks more like markers.
I'm glad Pokemon spinoffs aren't dead though. Was really worried Pokemon Go killed off console-spinoffs since there were so few during Gen 7.
I might not get this, mostly because there's too much competition this quarter with Animal Crossing, Final Fantasy VII, Cyberpunk, etc. But I do hope it does well and helps greenlight a new Mystery Dungeon game.
@Eel It does make sense IF they boost the spawn rate of elixirs a lot. Thanks for the reply! I didn't know they were phasing it out since I didn't play the last mystery dungeon.
Finished the demo last night. So is there no overworld? All you do is go to the bulletin board, pick a mission and head thru a town exit and boom, youre at a dungeon. My second question is in regards to the dungeons themselves. They all felt the same, at least the 3 or 4 I played. Is that how they all are?
I've played the gates to infinity demo, currently playing Super Mystery dungeon and is a bit faimalar with the mystery Dungeon stuff based on viewing. Haven't played the first PK Mystery dungeon.
My impressions.
What I liked.
. The storybook graphics. Pretty good.
. Quality of Life changes I can't remember to list but they're a pretty nice. Auto mode in particular that lets you walk through the dungeon for you. Not recommended if you're pokemon are underleveled.
. Your pokemon say stuff via word bubbles when you do actions giving it a bit more personality.
Plus or minus.
The game wastes no time to get the beginning out of the way so we can get to the dungeons and be explorers (self-appointed at least). Heh, not exactly nuanced tho.
If you're unfamilar with the mystery dungeon. When you're in the dungeon's or in the cutscenes, the animations look a bit limited (espically when you're dashing). Keep that in mind.
What I don't like.
. The foilage on the leaf dungeon doesn't move.
. You don't get to fight a boss or any major encounter in the story when the demo ends. If you don't count the multiple missions in a single dungeon a major event.
Overall.
It could be priced at $50, but I liked what I've seen. I would put this on your radar.
...I'm unsure about this one, I tried getting into one of the games on the 3DS some time ago. They were...okay? I ended up getting quite bored and lost interest with it, I can't even remember how far I got...
MAYBE I'll give it another chance here...which generation of Pokemon are in this?
