Is anyone else excited for this one? I'm genuinely interested. I haven't played an entry in the series since the original Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team on the DS but may return to it in this game just for nostalgia. Some of the mechanics in the post-game didn't translate well for me, but I've heard the series has improved since then.

Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)

I'm pretty close to being a day 1 buyer. Need to dabble in the demo a little more but it seems right up my alley. Top down dungeon crawling is one of my favorites. And I'm trying to get into the series.

Love the water-color art style, I'm interested.

$60 seems steep though.

I wonder if it'll be challenging just like the original was? I remember the original was brutal(took me a while to finish it). Only able to take three people at a time, only able to take 20 items to a dungeon, ghosts type pokemon that can attack you when they're in a wall(you have no way to counter that by the way.) and broken multi-strike moves that can rip you apart in seconds.

I'll consider this game if they change some things. Or make it like the sequel, Explorers Of Time/ Darkness

The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

I'm currently playing Watch Dogs 2 & Manhunt

One of my biggest pet peeves in the original was how iffy befriending other Pokemon could be. This didn't really bother me much until the post-game; try slogging through a 99-floor dungeon with a Friend Bow in your inventory and STILL fail to recruit the legendary Pokemon in question after a brutal battle. All that time wasted.

Another annoyance to me was how you would lose items if you went through a full party wipe (not alleviated at all by a quick save system that trashed said save once it was reloaded). I lost one of those rare, valuable Friend Bows that way. 😒

Overall I did enjoy my time with the game back in the day, but it could definitely use some QoL improvements. The plot was fairly unique for the time (though some of this may be nostalgia), the SOS system was fun to use, many missions were also fun (though after awhile the lack of variety got kind of stale), and I liked that you could change the appearance of your headquarters. Some of the characters were pretty unique.

The demo is a bit underwhelming compared to the Gates of Infinity one.

That one let you continue exploring as much as you wanted. This one just... Ends...

I mean, I'm not buying it for LITERALLY MORE THAN IT WAS SOLD AT LAUNCH IN 2006. But I would consider it at a discount.

It is the last Pokemon spinoff game I ever got (which I regret with what i've heard about the sequel at the very least), and I remember a lot of people hating the game at that time for...some stupid reason. Maybe they were mad Pokemon risked having an actual story with characters worth investing in? looks at stupid backlash Gen 5 got at launch yeah that might actually be true. But I played it again for a Let's Play a few years ago, and it's really held up. It depends on your tolerance for repetitive content I guess but...honestly that's true of the main games too.

But I'm mostly just happy this exists. This is some lovely nostalgia.

I've never been interested, but I have been won over somewhat by the [Fran Drescher]gawwwjus[/Fran Drescher] art style.

I'll give the demo a try, though I haven't been at all interested in past entries in the series.

I did grab Red Rescue Team for AU$5 back in the day, but I gave that to my brother (as I would occasionally surprise him with whatever cheap games I had come across that I thought he would like).

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

I'm interested, for sure. The art style is still growing on me, and the price is a bit high but we'll see. My main issue is how in dungeons you can't freely move in 360° motion, whereas you can in the town.

Aw, this game is just so pretty. I have a growing appreciation for roguelikes anyway, but this one knocks most others out of the park for sheer charm. I am very, very tempted - but the full price is going to be hard to swallow. Especially when Chocobo’s Dungeon goes on sale again.

But it’s so pretty...

I was super surprised to see this, and jumped on the demo as soon as. I played Red Rescue Team to the end back in the day, so to be able to experience it again with a new look and new additions should be great. Already been on the demo and love what they've done with the artstyle, and that music just brought me straight back to the first time playing all those years ago.

@Matthew010 That's because all dungeons are turn-based with a grid-based movement system, even if it doesn't feel like it when there's no opposing 'mon nearby.

@DarkRula That's my other issue actually - the battle system. This is the first time I've played a Mystery Dungeon game so it's a new battle style for me. Hopefully I can come to understand it better!

@Matthew010
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon are similar with Chocobo Mystery Dungeon. Every single move it counted as 1 turn. You moved 1 step, enemies also moved 1 step. Sometimes, very agile enemies will move 2 steps instead 1 step. You hit the enemy by 1 hit, the enemy will hit you by 1 hit. Some enemies will hit you twice in a row if they are very agile. Since the battle system is Turn based, make sure you check your partner to help you.

@Matthew010 Positioning is important, as is knowing the effects of moves. You can attack and be attacked from any space around you, with some moves allowing a long distance attack. If you can get in position to launch one of those off before the close-quarters fight starts, you'll be at an advantage for the tougher fights. There's plenty to understand but nothing overly complex about it.

@DarkRula Thanks for the info! Hopefully after a while, I'll understand the system better!

I tried the demo. It's a pretty small slice. But I like it, I'm eager for more.

Love the mystery dungeon games. If you ask me... Mystery Dungeon > Main Line > Ranger.

The Wii U is still the world's best console. Buy one today!

@SwitchForce i think in the dungeons themselves have food in them. Plus the town square has a shop of I'm correct
