@Joeynator3000 : The trailer has also shown some Mega forms, which were introduced in Gen VI, but I think that's about all we'll see as far as "new" Pokémon are concerned.
"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"
So i have some thinking to do as well after finishing the demo. Even though my March is wide open(game purchase wise)I might hold off on this until a sale. My backlog is large enough to keep me entertained for a while
@DarthNocturnal@tobibra We already know from the trailer Lucario from Gen IV is actually in as a playable character at least. Plus Mega Evos are in from Gen VI. So the Gen IV refs are definitely being expanded on (presumably a new story about the Lucario we heard about is possible), and we have new content as well.
I'm curious to see if the story does end up changing. Given who the major legendaries are in this title, what we know so far, and the ties from this games story to ORAS, it seems highly likely those two things will end up tying together in some way.
I'm certainly glad they're remaking this one, the original version has this weird thing where you had to regroup your team every single day before going on a mission and that got super annoying, so I'm sure they'll fix that and add many other quality of life improvements like that.
I've been distracted with Monster Hunter on 3DS lately, I'll try and remember to check out the demo for this soon. Other Switch games are on my list, though...
I swear, once I finally get my new 4K TV next month, I'm going to FINALLY play Mario Odyssey dammit! xD also, still no freakin' news on Rune Factory 4 Special. >_>
I just finished the demo. Having went through the opening few hours more than once back in the day, the plot and text are similar to how I remember it. +1 for nostalgia!
Other positives:
Moves added in later generations seem to be incorporated. My partner was a Treecko who had Dragon Breath as one of their moves.
A lot of the controls feel intuitive.
For the most part, I like the art style. Many areas of the game have translated over well.
Gender differences introduced in Gen 4 have been implemented.
The AI of your teammate has improved.
Negatives/Nitpicks
As mentioned earlier in the thread, I agree that the non-moving plants in the first dungeon are weird.
I wish the demo had delved more into how recruitment in this game works. As I mentioned in an earlier post, this could be finicky in the original.
Some of the Pokemon movements seem a bit static, but this was also present in the original two games.
I did enjoy the demo for the most part. I still need to properly explore the town. I'll consider getting this game down the line, but I don't feel like it's currently worth the $60 price tag.
Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)
With mega evolution being incorporated into these games, I wonder if the gen II starters (along with the other in-game starters like Skitty that don't mega evolve) will get any kind of cool feature to make up for their lack of mega evolution. Perhaps z-moves?
@Eel I have gates to infinity and finished it but I don't remember anything about it... It wasn't a great game. Not bad, bad not great. Thanks for the response.
I do have a bit of a mixed feeling regarding that this game. I enjoyed the demo a lot, but seeing the game priced at 59.99 seems bizarre. It’s a fun little game that would feel right at home in the 3DS library at 30-40 bucks. I never really felt that way about a new game on the Switch until this one. The developers deserve money for all the beautiful work they put into the game, but I can sort of see some getting a bit sour about the price on this one.
You can tell them “well just don’t buy it”, but it’s hard to deny that it is a minor spinoff game going for 60 bucks. Poor decision there in my opinion.
@NotTelevision Eh, well, we'll see. There's almost certainly going to be new content as well since it's at that price range (and because it was hinted at in the trailer), so we'll have to see if it's enough to justify the price increase. I prefer the PMD games to main series myself, so if the contents there I'll be buying it. Honestly, there's probably content comparable to Sword and Shield at least anyways... if not more. Though that's not saying much.
Who's grabbing this on Friday? Despite the average scores it's getting, I'm tempted. I owned the original DS game, but never got into it. I enjoyed the Switch demo though, so I might get this.
