Idk I'm thinking of getting it but I just can't pull the trigger on it.
Now I know what changes Platinum made, I am having a hard time justifying the purchase of these now. I know they sort of try and include the Platinum changes in a round about way, but it seems more than like compromises rather than doing it properly.
To be completely honest, the only Platinum thing these are really missing is the battle frontier. Which was a very "your mileage may vary" kinda thing to begin with.
@VoidofLight Yeah I see why they've gone for it...but personally I feel the sprites had a lot more character, especially when it comes to battle. And absolutely agree it looks a bit too washed out.

My understanding is Platinum rebalanced entire teams, added in whole chunks of additional gameplay that fleshed out the villains and included a bunch of additional Pokémon. My understanding is the rebalanced teams are only in end game, the additional gameplay that fleshed out the villain and gave you a proper showdown with them is just entirely missing - and the missing Pokémon are only found in the side underground mode.
@Pizzamorg These games feature the story from Diamond and Pearl. Platinum was a slightly different alteration of that, but these remakes decide to focus on the original iteration of the story.
ORAS did the same thing, completely ignoring the logical changes Emerald did, in favor of focusing on how the original pair were, story-wise. For the most part at least, since you know those added extra details here and there to fit in with Gen 6's lore.
The teams and available pokemon remain the same they were in the orignals as well, but they do make nods and references to the Platinum teams in the after game, so it's like getting both anyway. From what I understand, the AI and movesets are much better compared to even Platinum.
The underground also expands the pokemon available to the player much much more than Platinum's expanded dex, so it's like being faithful to the original, but bending things a little for the player.
In the end, I think it would be better if you saw these for what they are (a new take on Diamond and Pearl), instead of what they are not (Platinum).

I do understand the distinction, but now I know the distinction exists, I don’t really understand the purpose of these games. Why remake the inferior version and celebrate it’s inferiority? I mean nostalgia, of course, but I have no such nostalgia for these games so I have kinda lost a reason to buy these now.
@Eel The only gripes I have is how they didn't decide to integrate some of the stuff from Platinum, like the story, and the feature set. For the story, I just wish we got the stuff with Cyrus, outside of the Giratina plot, since the dude gets way more development in Platinum than he does in Diamond and Pearl, as well as shows up way more often.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
Despite my continued pseudo-absence, I have been following the developments regarding the leaks in this thread. Normally I actively try to avoid spoilers, but as I've played both Diamond and Platinum, there's very little to surprise me with. While I'm mildly disappointed that they aren't incorporating a lot of the changes in Platinum in a more direct way (ESPECIALLY the Distortion World....Still one of my favorite areas in the whole series.), I am pleased at most of the other information that has come out, though it technically should've waited until the street date. Except....
I'm pretty sure this is the first Nintendo game ever to have significant chunks of the base game added via day 1 patch. It's pretty standard for Xbox and Playstation given that physical is nothing more than a DRM key on PS4, XB1, PS5 and Series X|S but with Switch this only really happened with 3rd parties trying to cheap out on cartridge sizes.
Between this update and the future update, it does feel like time ran out and they weren't allowed to delay.
THIS. This is exactly what this feels like. I'm well aware of how day one patches behave on other platforms, but for this to start happening to first-party games on the Switch is concerning. Patches on the Switch are definitely normal, but those are often deployed to fix bugs and add new, often non-crucial content.
I was originally going to pick this up within the early access Manaphy window, but I might wait until long after the fact just in case carts with the full game start releasing. Sort of like what happened with Sword/Shield and the DLC; waiting was to my benefit then. Though as this is a remake and technically not a "main" entry, there's no guarantee it'll receive the same treatment....
Edit: I should mention that I don't think BDSP come off as "bad" games, unlike what a vocal minority of the fanbase likes labeling modern Pokemon games as; far from it! I'm still mildly hyped, but the day one patch nonsense gives me pause. It's certainly something for me to chew over. #FirstWorldProblems
@thizWhy did they make Gligar/Teddiursa an exclusive pair? That's really weird considering Gliscor is a Sinnoh mon and Ursaring isn't. Should've gone for Phanpy/Teddiursa.
So wait, There is nothing from pokemon Plat in this game? Because Idk if Game freak might make another one down the line, and remake plat (Yes I know) so do you think its worth getting now? @thiz
Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

My team for Brilliant Diamond: Infernape, Roserade, Gastrodon West, Staraptor, Luxray, Gardevoir. Wanted go for Ludicolo and Garchomp instead of Roserade and Gastrodon West, but happened.
